I see mention of a resort fee being added for staying on property on threads on here. I looked over at the resort thread and didn't see it mentioned. If we have a bounceback already reserved for Aug. 2016, that we reserved Aug. 2015, can they add the fee if it starts before our trip?

The discussion was a result of a survey Disney recently conducted.

There currently is no resort fee.

It is speculation. A survey was sent out to guests asking how the would feel about a resort fee. Nothing official has been announced. I would hope that if they do change the policy, it would be for new reservations, not existing ones

Resort fee? I find it hard to believe that Disney doesn't already have hidden costs built into their existing cost structure for accommodations. How gullible do they think we are?

It is a rumor as of right now, but if they were to implemented could they charge it on existing reservations? Yes absolutely. Will they ? We don't know. It will be very messy for the front end to be able to tell when the reservation was made and I will bet that is something that they will just add to their system. So I say that if they do decide to charge a resort fee it probably be for everyone starting a certain date.

I don't think they would add it to existing reservations. If they are going to add it, it could start with 2017 reservations, official rates have not come out yet.

I'll start off by honoring the request that we start our posts with the disclaimer that this is all RUMOR and SPECULATION.

OK. With that out of the way, you have to wonder if the "survey" was really a survey, or if it was specifically intended to dip a toe in the waters to lessen the blow when the inevitable happens. After all. Would Disney really spend the time, money and energy to conduct a survey on whether guests would want to have an extra $15 per day tacked on to their reservations to "cover" expenses for things that are already free? I mean, this isn't like a political survey where you really don't know the answer to the question and you get results that are: (35%; 30% 20% 15%). Any idiot has to know that if you ask guests if they would like to see a surcharge added to their bill with nothing received in return, the responses are going to be 95% negative. (There is always that quizzical 5%). So was the survey conducted to gather insight on what guests really think, or was the survey a way to get the word out that this was coming? Same with the flex pricing. That was the subject of a survey, and then BOOM. About 2-3 months later, it was reality. Did Disney really conduct that survey because it was genuinely curious as to whether guests wanted ticket prices to go up in the high season? And if Disney is really paying people to conduct such surveys, they can hire me to do them and I will charge half the price and get them results in a quarter of the time. Uhhhh. That would be a "no" on higher ticket prices and a "no" on higher resort prices. Next survey please!

For the prices of Disney hotels, resort fees have been here for a long time lol

There are thousands of "over-priced" resorts around the world... that DO add resort fees.
"Hidden costs" are not resort fees.

By definition, resort fees are ADDED to the cost of room rates,
regardless of how expensive the rooms already are.

Do I like it? Of course not.
But that is a very common practice, ESPECIALLY at resorts which are already high-priced.

"Everybody else does it" didn't work too well when I was 5, and it hasn't gotten better with age IMHO.

Many of us choose Disney because they do things differently from the way everybody else does it.

Totally disagree. A resort fee is nothing more than an extra charge in an attempt to mask a price increase in the actual room rate. And, it does not matter if other resorts around the world are doing it. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.

Disagree... with a definition?
OF COURSE it's a money grab.
That's why resorts do it. Because they CAN.

My point is not that it's "OK" because other resorts do it.
I'm saying that just because Disney resorts are expensive and have "hidden fees" that is no reason
to expect them NOT to add resort fees.
In fact, because they are "premium priced" it would be logical for Disney to
have resort fees. It's generally the most expensive resorts that do have them.

I hate resort fees.

Unfortunately, the changes Disney has been making lately show they no longer want to be different from everybody else. They are just fine with behaving like their competitors if it means they can squeeze a few more bucks out of their once-loyal customers.

Bingo!

(Sadly, but… yes.)

How many resorts around the world offer free transfers to and from the Airport?
