Resort Change by Disney

Correct me if im wrong, but I'm not sure if POP to SRR is definite downgrade. I have only stayed at SSR once and at POP once.

Certainly, if you have 4 adults, 2 queens vs 1 queen and a sleeper sofa is downgrading. But for only 2 adults, or 2 adults and child (like us), having the sleeper sofa that you can put away during the day is very convenient. It gives you a lot of extra "walking around" space. Also,, isn't POP rooms sft about 250 or 260 sf? And I think SSR studios are 350 or 360sf? That's a definite upgrade. Also, the kitchenette is a convenience. Having a mini fridge, sink, toaster, microwave, etc is helpful. The villas also have free laundry facilites (for those so inclined lol).

I know the pool at POP is nice, but the ones at SSR are as well, with water slides. Maybe the food court is better at POP? It is bigger.

I know OKW studio is 390sft

Maybe I'm wrong, but SSR as an option instead of a value resort is not that bad IMHO. Unless of course, as a PP said, you have 4 adults. In that case you would need that extra bed and not a sleeper.

I totally agree! I have stayed at both... and I would literally be grateful for ANYTHING that got me out of a value resort. At least you have a kitchenette and can walk to Disney Springs.

While I'm not a fan of them, there are a lot of people who book them because they like them. Their kids like them. It's where they want to be and trading it for a room with a sleeper sofa isn't a good deal for them. Just because a resort offers more than the resort you have doesn't make it an upgrade to you personally if what they have is nothing you care about. I would not want a room that did not have real beds, especially if it were all adults or included older kids. I don't care which resort it is. It's a room- what I have to sleep on counts the most to me.

For stays prior to park opening, all they have open are DVC resorts. So the choices are to move dates, cancel, or be moved to a DVC resort — which means studios for some. It looks like they mapped hotel resorts to specific DVC resorts. How they mapped rooms is a mystery to me. It may be a function of how many rooms they have at those resorts, what breakage points they have available to use, etc.

FW is different its hard to compare and for many reasons its a campground with cabins. It is very large so we have always rented a golf cart. FW is on the water so you can get to MK very easily. The feature pool is nice and the the sing along/campfire with Chip and Dale is great with a movie. There is so much to do my boys love it we have spent many days just enjoying the campground!!!!! Also depending on the time in September some people start decorating the campsites for Halloween and its very neat to ride around and see all the decorations.

FW also has some cool stuff to do that you can't find at other resorts...horseback riding, kayak and canoe rentals, an archery experience (once a day in the afternoons), or you can rent various motor boats, too.

Some or all of those things may not be available right now. I don't think they've specified what resort activities are going to be up and running, but I would expect to see a great many of them closed.

Yeah, I guess. We don’t have kids yet. But when I do, they will learn to love the Polynesian. And if they don’t, I’ll leave them at home. 🙃

All of this. POP may not be the most luxurious option out there, but having 2 queens is a godsend.

Anyone have any results with rooms booked through third parties. I have asmu 7/14-18. Through Hotels.Com. I have a disney confirmation number and then room is attached to my DME.

The move from POFQ to FW cabins is not a downgrade technically. But it is definitely not an upgrade. It's moving moderate to moderate. The problem is, what you consider important for your stay. With this move, you're gaining a separate bedroom, full kitchen and more space but losing what I consider to be better transportation.

My daughter has a POFQ stay July5-10. We changed it yesterday and she got moved to OKW, 2 bedroom villa. This is most certainly an upgrade, but she is losing better transportation options as well. Still, she's gaining enough that it more than makes up for it. She would not have been happy at all with a move to FW cabins. I don't know if anyone has been moved to the cabins from POFQ, but I would hope not. It's not an upgrade at all to me. But I'll allow that outside of the All Stars, there isn't a resort on property I like less than FW cabins, so that probably colors my judgement a lot.

The move I got for my stay was nowhere near as impressive as the move my daughter got and I was moving from the YC CL while she was at a moderate. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason to where you get moved. Maybe they just have a wheel they spin when you call and wherever it lands is where you go.
Now I'm nervous for our cabin stay over Thanksgiving! (We chose a cabin bc there are 6 of us. For ref, I don't "like" PO or CBR but it's Disney so I'm happy about being there in general; GF is a little better; I like YC/BC and BW; and I could spend a vacation just at Poly with no parks.)

Definitely the case for us. We booked Movies cause we like Movies. The refurbed rooms are so nice, imo, and we prefer real beds to a sleeper sofa. SSR studio would be a downgrade and I'd have to think about whether I'm willing to deal with putting kids on a sleeper sofa. I think maybe my girls could share a queen, dh & I share a queen and put one boy each on a sofa. Might be okay.

We have two ASMo rooms so I guess they could give us two FW cabins but that just sounds like a hassle trying to deal with our teens in one and us and our boys in another, though I think our boys would love FW. Otherwise the FW cabins, if they tried to put us all 6 in one would be a downgrade as we lose beds and a bath. It seems most AS resorts are getting FW cabins or SSR. I'm picky about very little about the resort EXCEPT the beds. Being able to get a good night's sleep is huge and we aren't great sleepers. Maybe that is why I care so much about the beds. And having two baths...no way, I'm dealing with one bath with 6 people, 2 of which are teen girls...no thanks!

Don’t be nervous about being in a FW cabin. They are different, but still fun! I’m guessing Christmas decorations will be up by then, so that only makes it better. If you can add a golf cart you will appreciate it!

"Different" how? I'm *not* a camping person. I was forced to go motor home "camping" and fishing in Alaska very frequently as a kid, and I've refused to even set foot in ANY motor home since I was about 18. Forget about tents. I've stayed in cabins that I wouldn't classify as being much different than a condo or house, and those were fine (as long as there's a real bed, toilet, and shower). I do think the kids would like FW though.

I've heard about people decorating their camping spots at FW for Christmas. It sounds really neat. We're APs, so we could rent a car and just drive to the parks every day, but a golf cart would be more fun (they're pretty common around where we live, lots of ppl drive them around the neighborhood).

I love the cabins, but we bring a car in order to have freedom to drive to the parks and Disney Springs. We don’t care for Disney buses because of the crowds and waiting. We only use the internal bus to get to the dock for the boat ride to Magic Kingdom.

We book at YC to have the ability to walk to two parks . Riviera is a definite cancel for us if offered and at this point BC will no feature pool is too. The slim chance we get BW is our only hope to keep our 7/31-8/8 trip . With what people are posting it’s not looking good for us.

I know the moves by Disney don’t allow for a request but, if you do get moved, Old Key West studios have 2 real beds, no pull-out or sofa bed. Good luck 🍀

Different in a good way! I am not a camping person either, but we really enjoyed our Christmas time stay at Fort Wilderness. The inside of the cabins are nice, so we didn’t feel like we were camping. It was also nice to have some space between us and others. We got really into decorating our golf cart with Christmas decor, and Christmas lights that played along to our Christmas music as we drove around. The kids loved it! It’s a fun place!
It’s also nice that you can take a short boat ride to MK.
It’s a beautiful area and just walking around is nice.

We had our Beach Club reservation for July modified to the cabins as well. When they told me that is where we were moving to I was ok with this change and not disappointed at all. Of course we love Beach Club, but with Stormalong Bay closed I wouldn’t want to stay there right now.

I hope you have a nice trip!

We offered our 8&12yo nieces a litany of options for next Christmas (including Poly, CR, and AKL Savanna)—they chose Pop. They like the oversized statues, the fact we end up with 4 beds, and the Skyliner.

We have an upcoming Pop ressie for August. We are lamenting the loss of the Skyliner. I loathe WDW buses and we loved the efficiency of the Skyliner last year. The room itself isn’t the downgrade, it’s the transportation options that are. It'd be like being moved from somewhere on the monorail to AKL and calling it equal.
