Resort Change by Disney

I think the big questions is what about after July 11th? It may be much closer to 90%.
There will almost certainly be some cash resorts open then--its been reported here that at least some cash resort CMs have been called back. DVC owners alone will fill up most of the DVC resorts, so there will not be as much room for Disney to relocate people at cash resorts to DVC. And the parks will be open so there will be less competition for the pools. Really no point in looking at what they are doing pre-July 11 and trying to extrapolate after.

Just because a CM worked at a "cash resort" whatever that means, is called back, does not mean they are being called back to the same resort. Call backs are being done based on seniority level and whether or not you are full or part time. We met some Castmembers at Disney Springs this weekend who work at the theme parks and were called back to work at Disney Springs. When they call you back you have no choice on where they put you.

Maybe that means the resort you are set to stay in is going to be open?? That's what we're hoping for....

It’s so crazy that I’m scheduled to arrive at Disney three weeks from today yet I still am not able to modify my reservation.
Maybe you should ask to speak with guest services. The first cast member you speak with on the phone will not be guest service. At this point, Guest Service will probably be the only ones that can give you a little pixie dust.

They're going to have to either cancel a bunch of reservations starting in August or open up more resorts. DVC is pretty full starting around then. There's no way around it.

Because we agreed to it when we bought? It saddens me as a DVC owner that we have people who are making this about who should and should not be allowed to have a room at a DVC resort.

I am glad Disney is choosing to give cash guests the option to move if they want a vacation. I think anyone going when it says things will be limited should expect that.DVC owner or not.

If one is concerned with the situation, then again, it may not be the time to visit.
I appreciate your kindness. It is starting to feel like some DVC members are looking down on people who are being moved by no choice of their own. I can’t stand snottiness.

Correct...and one of the initial plans was that not everyone would be moved and some canceled. As I said, I have been told it is wait and see based on many factors. But, the initial plan were to move to open DVC resorts vs. opening others.

This week will give us a better idea of what is happening for those during park opening as we are up to July 11th check ins.

I understand that, but even if those CMs are being repurposed to DVC resorts (which I still think is not likely, since the existing DVC resorts' are also being called back) the rest of my post holds true. DVC owners will be filling more rooms after July 11, leaving less room for cash guests, and pools won't be as full once parks are open, so the concerns raised about resorts being full of cash guests crowding the pools after July 11 don't make much sense. Even setting aside that it makes no sense to complain about whether a guest is cash of DVC given everyone is a paying guest and mutually contributing to the funding the WDW resort experience that we all enjoy.

I'm sure they are watching the numbers rising in Florida. They can't decide today on something that will happen two months from now. It could change in a second and look how much people lose their minds when Disney changes a plan or rolls something back. I feel bad for everyone affected and for Disney. A lot of people have had many sleepless nights.

I booked through a travel agent and am being told we can’t modify yet. I’m trying to be patient but it’s tough not knowing. Hoping there’s a silver lining to the wait but I don’t feel it’s likely.

I am in the same boat as many . I have 4 nights with my DVC and than 3 cash nights booked through a TA at a value. Any word if moved will guest be responsible for the difference in price and is a it rack room rate they are giving. I had a promo rate for those 3 nights and wonder if the discount will still be available if I have to upgrade? It's a discount offered at all resorts but that varies at each level.

Up to now, anyone who KEPT their same dates and was moved did not have to pay. However, that has only been for those with travel dates prior to park opening.

It is unknown what WDW plans to do once parks open - they could select some reservations to be upgraded free, they could offer to upgrade for cost, they could cancel, they could open more resorts.

To be clear, though I’ve been critical of moving guests to DVC resorts, I have never criticized or “looked down” on the guests being moved. I have been critical of business decisions Disney has made that jeopardize the experience and, quite possibly, safety of all guests. They are making a conscious decision to impact ALL guests in order to cut costs. And, if it is their plan to engineer room capacity to be higher than offered amenities (pool, dining), especially when parks are closed, then I think that borders on being unethical.

I think the comment you replied to is talking more about posters who have talked about pools and how they should only be used by DVC members because of dues or something like that.

I just called to get clarity on several things. The CM I spoke to said the new pay off date was 7 days prior. I then asked about my resort not being open, she said that they would give the option to move to a DVC resort thats open but the customer would have to pay the difference. This doesnt sound like what I've seen on here about moving at now charge.

my trip starts Jul 18th

Some CMs are more knowledgeable than others. You can get two different stories in the same day from different CMs. If you keep the same dates, people are not having to pay the difference. Any change in dates and they can charge the difference. If that happens to you when you are allowed to modify, ask to speak with guest services.

they haven't charged yet but who know what they'll be doing when they finally get around to accomadating your dates.

Actually, full time CMs (without health restrictions in the family) were given an option to return to work faster, if their location was not open, if they would accept a voluntary temporary transfer of which they could pick one or more from a list of options. It is likely the DS CMs that were park CMs wanted to get back to work and therefore participated after the first optional "call back". Those who signed up to return to work are contacted after the full timers in that location were called back. Without DCP - part time - seasonal CMs ... it gives the next round of positions to the fulltimers from locations not open yet. Once your previous role is back working you will return to your original position, in order of seniority.

So straight up call backs are presented as being called back to your original job. After that CMs will be contacted after going through the list of volunteer transfers and that likely is not part of a broad list or call back.

We really can't assume anything general about openings based on call backs, but the presented layout for returning to work would imply a location wide call back would likely to attached to that location.
