Resort Change by Disney

I am able to choose both Riviera and Grand Floridian Magic bands. Stay is 7/26 at Pop. I do not think that means they will move me to Grand Floridian. I think it just means anyone can upgrade their magic band to a given number of bands.

That is correct. Long before WDW was ever shut down, they would put resort-specific MB's in the upgraded inventory for anyone to select (the RIV one was available quite a bit last year and early this year). It didn't matter where you were staying - you could still purchase a resort-specific MB in the inventory regardless of where you are staying. Resort-specific MBs being available now give zero indication of what resort you are staying in or where you will be moved (if they move you).

Not in their shoes but if you picked a vacation based on dvc availability looking for a quiet getaway you certainly weren’t notified by disney about the increased guests - the prior comment was that op responded to was that disney had been upfront about changes to dvc owners.
It's also been noted that many DVC owners don't do the parks and stay round the resort, if the pools are limited capacity how would that be fair to owners if they are not allowed to use the pools their MF's pay for.

Because we agreed to it when we bought? It saddens me as a DVC owner that we have people who are making this about who should and should not be allowed to have a room at a DVC resort.

I am glad Disney is choosing to give cash guests the option to move if they want a vacation. I think anyone going when it says things will be limited should expect that.DVC owner or not.

If one is concerned with the situation, then again, it may not be the time to visit.

Your points are valid that Disney deciding not to open their hotels will make a difference at the ones that are open.

Of course, anyone visiting prior to the park opening knows the pools are going to be a big draw..

The idea that somehow DVC owners have the right to expect Disney not to use the points they own or move cash guests to rooms that other owners didn’t book makes little sense when we agreed to allow them to do that when we bought.

Let’s be honest, had owners not switched out their trips, and booked those rooms like normal, the situation would be exactly the same as it will be now,
Actually, the situation is not the same.

Because of the 2.5% cap on breakage, DVC members are footing the bill for those who Disney transfers to DVC Resorts.

Non-DVC Guests are giving their money to Disney but DVC members are paying for their room cleaning, pool towel service, electricity, increased staff, etc.

Again, doesn’t matter who uses the room...we agreed that Disney gets them at 60 days...you don’t have to like it, but it’s what you, as an owner agreed to let happen, In exchange we get some of the money.

I stand by my opinion that whether a DVC owner booked it on points, Disney booked it with their points, or they took it because it falls in the 60 day window, it doesn’t change a thing.

The pool crowding would be no different if it was filled with DVC owners. It seems your issue is with the guest...and that is really too bad.

If you call guest services 7am -11 pm 1-407-939-5277
the recording will give dates currently allowed to be modified.
You can ask to be transferred to the Modification Team.
I called 5:00 late Sunday and had 10 minute wait.
Good luck

What were your original dates?

Arriving July 5 departing July 11
POP

I accepted OKW and the castmember presented it as an upgrade Deluxe Studio but I am cancelling .
I have 2 grandchildren that POP has lots of non resort ways to entertain.
Unfortunately OKW would not!
So goodbye Disney Hello Margaritaville Resort near AK location and brand new waterpark for the week . Look for discounts online
H2O Waterpark
Sunset Walk in Orlando
Margaritaville Resort.

p.s. they would not even honor the castmember friends and family rate for any other location.

You wanting to use the pools (and every other amenity too) and get what your MF's pay for is completely reasonable. I get it, the MF are crazy and we all want it to be fair. This is an unprecedented time for everybody. Everything that Disney is doing is all spelled out in our POS and, whether we like or not, was part of the arena that we agreed to play in by purchasing DVC. It's a great system compared to many.

There is SO MUCH at play here that Disney has to balance. One of those parameters that I think often gets overlooked are the CMs. The safety of everybody is paramount and, let's face it, the alternative here, is that the DVC resorts remain closed. If things aren't safe for both guests and employees, our POS allows Disney to keep the resorts closed. I know it has been said before, but everybody has to realize that their next Disney vacation isn't going to be like any of their previous trips and the sooner they plan on going, the more variation there will be. I really do think that although many people really want to take their trips and enjoy time with their families, that it might be best for them to delay and wait until the dust settles. For those don't have that option and are locked in to going, then I can only hope that patience and understanding will be at the forefront of their minds. This is going to be a steep learning curve for ALL OF US!!

I own 825 points so I pay a lot of MFs and have no issue with any owner, including Disney, using their points for the guests of their choosing.

So yes, it saddens me that any DVC owner is taking issue with cash guests staying at DVC resorts.

ETA: MFs at shared resorts pay a fraction of the cost to run the feature pools. Most is paid by Disney..so the opening to some of those may indeed be because Disney is using DVC rooms for cash guests.

I just don’t think it’s fair to anyone to reduce capacity of amenities (pools, dining, etc.) to less than the accepted capacity of guests. For example, if dining and pools are going to be run at 50% capacity, so to should the entire resort. Otherwise, all guests are getting screwed, particularly those who paid the premium for those facilities in the first place.

Cash guests at DVCs? Wonderful! We own DVC but still stay on cash just as much. Packing DVC resorts to 90% capacity, when you can’t guarantee people (at 1 week out!) anything to do other than sit in their rooms all day? I’m sorry, but that would suck and I’m still trusting Disney not to make that mistake.

Everybody can cancel. It’s not like you are unaware there is a pandemic. If you don’t like what is going on now at Disney, book a stay at another time. Or stay at Disney and go to Universal or Seaworld or the beach. Legoland. Go shopping. Disney does not have a gun to your head to sit in your room all day. Be a little more creative with your stay if you insist on going.

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear where they will be moved. I imagine the pools and common areas might be more full than usual but they are also open all night. I think a day at Universal and then a midnight hot tub at OKW would be lovely.

I don't know that I'd count on the hot tubs being open. They aren't open at Universal (I'm guessing due to social distancing)

I'm okay with not getting everything we want for park days, though I'm hopeful in that regard. It's just my husband and I, so it doesn't matter where we would get moved if we got moved. We're booked at All Star Music which we would be blessed to stay at if it was open, but we'll likely never fork out the cash to stay onsite unless it's at a value resort so we'll take a free move gratefully! This is our first onsite trip, and we're okay and positive being flexible. At this point, I just want them to tell me if I'm being canceled or moved. :( 40 days until we go, and I feel like I can't let myself be excited about it. I know you've got a lot on your plate Disney, but throw us peasants a bone! I can be patient about everything else, I promise! Just let me know I'm going! 🤞

I would be willing to bet BIG that even with cash guests moving over, the DVC resorts won't be anything close to 90% full before July 11. I doubt they'll be over 50% full. Most cash guests (and most DVC owners) go to WDW for the parks, and either took the refund or rebooked after July 11.

And you stay at deluxe hotels at moderate rates over the life of the contract, while non-DVC guests pay full price for deluxe resorts and on average tend to spend more on while they are there--including on things like overpriced single-day hopper tickets, and eating more meals on average at WDW restaurants because they don't have a kitchenette. All subsidizing the theme parks you visit. DVC owners alone can't fund the theme parks, especially with all the new construction being done to improve the parks. Disney is just trying to do right by those guests by offering them a place to stay if they can't move their travel dates when they have rooms at DVC resorts that would otherwise go unusued. So..... call it even?

I think the big questions is what about after July 11th? It may be much closer to 90%.
