Resort Change by Disney

Maybe part of the difference is availability. DVC members have had the ability to modify reservations and make new reservations while that has not been available at other resorts since the reopening was announced. It would not surprise me if there is noticeably less available DVC rooms starting around the 11th. There are also likely to be a lot more guests willing to travel when the parks are opening back up than while the parks were closed. So more people needing to be moved into fewer available rooms at the resorts announced to be open. I think that Disney is trying to figure out what to do from both safety and PR perspectives. Disney also will not have the normal number of cast members, and can't put guests in Coronado Springs if the NBA is there. So there is a giant puzzle to work out a plan while everyone wants to know what that plan looks like.
I want to suggest patience, but I want to know what will be going on with the parks in September when I have a trip scheduled.

I can confirm that DVC owners room availabilty for prior to park openings and after is definitely different...a lot less.

However, remember too that Disney retains control of some of every resort, and has the ability to pull rooms...which they may have done a while back.

But, until the other resorts open, things will look different week to week as they move through dates for people.

I haven’t gotten the “new” email, but based on earlier post I called in. The recording does mention the new date range. My time was less than 40 minutes total, but the cast member I spoke with said it had been quiet all morning and picked up at noon.

I will post in the other thread as well, but:

7/5-7/11
Pop standard room
2 Adults, 1 child (13yo though, so a Disney Adult!)
No changes in dates
Upgraded to SSR 1 BR Villa
No additional costs

Our kiddo won’t be happy about the sleeper sofa, but it is an upgrade on several levels since the parks won’t be officially open yet. We will just try for AP previews. We are DVC as well, so if they offer those previews we may luck out there if we miss AP.

If not, we are unplugged and relaxing for a week. We know we will be back again.
I will see you there (socially-distanced wave!) We had booked an SSR DVC studio from 7/5-7/14 on points and had already planned on no parks this visit. I'm jealous you get a 1 bedroom though, that'll be nice!

Yes it’s so hard to keep up! Originally the FD recovery was thru September but as they extended closures they extended dates into December so I can totally see how you got to keep it. Also good to know that more resorts are slated to be open!!!
Did they really? I didn’t know that. Booked with the free dining offer for September, but might have pushed it back if the option was there

We are a family of 5 and had a reservation at CBR from 7/10-7/15. I called and was moved to OKW into a 2 bedroom. They said they were going to move us to SSR but that resort didn't have availability for a 2 bedroom for our whole stay. I don't know how I feel about that. I really don't know anything about OKW. My price didn't change.

I think you'll be happy. The 2 bedrooms at OKW are HUGE and it's a really relaxing resort. Usually has a boat to DS too, but I don't know if they're running that right now or not.

I've stayed at OKW 2 Bedroom several times and they are beautiful and plenty big enough for a larger party. We really enjoy it. It may be a little more spread out than other resorts, but we haven't really found it an issue. Plus, Olivia's Breakfast is our family Disney tradition.

I believe OKW has had all rooms refurbed in the recent past. So you will have a fresher look than an untouched room at SSR. I think it's still a great move, especially with all that space. The bus stops can be a pain at either resort when it's parks time, but maybe with fewer guests it won't be so bad.

Looking at youtube videos now and it does look so relaxing and pretty! Just found a poll on these boards between OKW, SSR, and FW cabins an so far OKW is winning.

So, you were moved, even though not checking out by the 11th...others have been told no,

Interesting. Do you have park tickets attached?

I've seen reports of others here that were able to move their 35% discount, though I don't recall which thread since I have been keeping track of so many 😂. This was the 35% we received for the removal of free dining though. Not the AP discount I have seen mentioned.
I'm glad they're letting people keep the 35% off and move dates. It sucks for us though, because we're APs so the original free dining recovery offer didn't work for us (didn't need the tickets). We switched from April to July/Aug with an AP discount, and now I *really* wish we'd opted for the FD discount and paid for 2 day park tickets.

I didn't get an email. I saw on the boards this morning that they were moving people during my dates, so I took a chance and called. I called 407-939-6244 and gave them my reservation number. I had a CBR room with a 5th sleeper but only had 4 people on my reservation as I wasn't sure if my daughter was going to go. I explained the situation and that I needed a room that for 5. They transferred me to another department. The agent I was speaking to was taking me on and off hold while trying to work with yet another department. She explained that they had us moved to SSR, but that SSR didn't have a 2 bedroom available for all the dates of my reservation. It sounded like they had already moved me before I even contacted them. It took them a while (32 minute call), I assume, because they had to switch me to a room that accommodated 5.

Awesome,,,just interesting that you were moved and others have not been who were told to call back since check out was later than 7/11

My dates are July 5-12 at the BC. I called because the one previous poster was able to modify. The person I spoke to initially said he could do it but after realizing I'd booked with a military discount said he had to transfer me. I was on hold for a bit and then he came back and said they couldn't help me since I was checking out after July 11. So, I continue to wait.
Wow. I was able to modify and my original checkout date was July 12th? I am not understanding the reasoning some people are getting to modify with checkout dates after the 11th and some aren't? Hmm...

I stayed there last summer for a few nights and the water park was great. We even did a cabana near the adult section...was just two of us...and it was one of the best things we did!

I think it is a great alternative for sure!

ETA: That would indicate that we will know before then if other resorts will open.
I looked into this resort and it does look amazing, We are scheduled at Disney for August 8th. If things don't work out think a split stay Margaritaville and UOR (HrH)

Currently on hold as they try and figure out what to do with us or what we want to do. Originally scheduled for Music from 7/5 to 7/14 with free dining and 5 day park hoppers. 4 Disney adults (1 adult and 17 year old triplets)

If we change our dates to 7/11 to 7/19 we can pay an extra $1500 and have Copper Creek (we cannot afford that plus food)
Then they transferred me to someone else who can work on ideas to keep our original dates. She was offering the grand villa at okw. Didn't get as far as prices as she also said we have to give up our park tickets. We cannot change them to less days and no hopper or anything. Have to give them up totally with no guarantees of being able to buy any once we get to Florida. So no reservations for parks for our last three days and no tickets.

So currently trying to find out what our price would be for a resort only vacation. Will probably cancel. So far on these calls 1 hour 20 minutes.

I just got off the phone. Our reservation is 7/8-7/22. The CM I spoke to put me on hold for about 25 minutes. She came back on and said she was talking to guest services. She said they are going to review our reservation and call us back, as they had others they had to call back first. 🤷‍♀️

When calling the recording does say they are dealing with reservations with a check out date through July 11. I only called to see what they would say since there was another report of someone being changed with a checkout date past July 11.

ETA: I also have a reservation starting July 11, I didn't ask about that one. (I made several reservations in hopes that we get to be there when they opened.)

I'll update if I get a call.

Does that include a 35% discount? I figure they are going to attempt to make me move or give up my tickets since our check in is 7/10. I am trying to figure out if we can afford the move. We aren’t booked on free dining so not sure if we would get the 35% off or not.
