Resort Change by Disney

So it seems that they are not quite ready to deal with anyone departing after 7/11, except for one previous poster.

We were originally at Caribbean Beach and she offered to rebook this room for us first since there was availability for our dates in November.
Hi! Quick question... are you saying that they were going to let you modify to Caribbean beach first?? Before you decided to change to a dvc resort?

My dates are July 5-12 at the BC. I called because the one previous poster was able to modify. The person I spoke to initially said he could do it but after realizing I'd booked with a military discount said he had to transfer me. I was on hold for a bit and then he came back and said they couldn't help me since I was checking out after July 11. So, I continue to wait.

I don’t understand what departure date has to do with anything? If your resort isn’t open upon check-in then what?

We booked a Beach Club Standard View room. We were originally at Caribbean Beach and she offered to rebook this room for us first since there was availability for our dates in November. We decided to upgrade to deluxe though since we were getting the 35% discount. Beach Club is a bucket list resort for me. Just hope SAB is open.
That’s encouraging to see that both CBR and BC are available to book later in the year. DVC and FW were the only resorts that were offered to the pre-July 4 group if they wanted to move to to later in the year. It appears that Disney expects to open things up a bit more in the fall.

They are only modifying those who leave through the closure date right now. This leads me to believe that things will be different once it applies to those with dates after 7/11.
Yeah but how? Does that mean that other resorts will be open? I just dont understand how this works logistically.

I think this is a clue of some sort of difference in procedure for check ins once the parks are open. That could be a change in the no cost resort moves, which resorts are open, or something entirely different. We just don't know yet.

Thank you so much for the heads up! We were just able to change our 7/6 - 7/11 reservation to November. We were permitted to book a regular room (not DVC) and we were able to apply our 35% dining recovery offer to our stay.

Wait, WHAT??? They let you keep your 35% off? I bet that is gonna make a lot of people MAD who wanted to move their dates but we’re told they have to pay RACK RATE if they did so (the June 22-July 4 crew)!!!!

Don’t get me wrong I’m glad you could! But we are talking crazy levels of inconsistency now. I think I’ve heard everything !! (But then again I bet it gets crazier!!!)

Doesn’t make any sense, but maybe new resorts will be open. Maybe no more free upgrades, or a some kind of offer to move to those resorts that will be open. I can also see them reopening all reservations to people with existing ressies through the end of the year.

I haven’t gotten the “new” email, but based on earlier post I called in. The recording does mention the new date range. My time was less than 40 minutes total, but the cast member I spoke with said it had been quiet all morning and picked up at noon.

I will post in the other thread as well, but:

7/5-7/11
Pop standard room
2 Adults, 1 child (13yo though, so a Disney Adult!)
No changes in dates
Upgraded to SSR 1 BR Villa
No additional costs

Our kiddo won’t be happy about the sleeper sofa, but it is an upgrade on several levels since the parks won’t be officially open yet. We will just try for AP previews. We are DVC as well, so if they offer those previews we may luck out there if we miss AP.

If not, we are unplugged and relaxing for a week. We know we will be back again.

Hi! Quick question... are you saying that they were going to let you modify to Caribbean beach first?? Before you decided to change to a dvc resort?
That is what she offered. When I called, I told her we were not interested in coming before the parks open so we wanted to modify to November. She plugged the dates we wanted in and told us CBR was available and did we want to proceed. I asked her if the 35% discount would be honored and she advised that it was, so we asked her to check the price of Beach Club instead. Since the Beach Club was within our budget, we went with that one instead.

I’d love to be fair, I’d just like fair in return. But when they offer some people free dining for the exact same time frame as me, then give them 35% off when it was taken away, but tell AP holders to suck it, they get nothing, that’s not fair. I had 35% off with an AP discount. I just want the same discount everyone else got after having been cancelled multiple times. I’m not sure why guests are chided for not being fair when the company they’re giving money to isn’t doing the same.

And telling me that I could use the free dining promotion if I want to spend thousands on tickets doesn’t work either.

Good points. I was referring to the options that were offered for reservations, not discounts.

They certainly could have decided to extend AP rates already and given what is going on, with the huge mistake they made with the free dining recovery offer, maybe they decided to learn their lesson,

But, it would be nice to see them extend offers like AP already.

I've seen reports of others here that were able to move their 35% discount, though I don't recall which thread since I have been keeping track of so many 😂. This was the 35% we received for the removal of free dining though. Not the AP discount I have seen mentioned.

Yes it’s so hard to keep up! Originally the FD recovery was thru September but as they extended closures they extended dates into December so I can totally see how you got to keep it. Also good to know that more resorts are slated to be open!!!

Yeah but how? Does that mean that other resorts will be open? I just dont understand how this works logistically.

It could imply that or for those with days during Park time the open to move to an open resort may not apply any more.

They could make people change dates, cancel or pay. I guess we will have to see.

My TA called Disney and was told the same thing that they are only working with people who check out prior to 7/11. I got excited that I may soon have some answers. Back to the waiting game. Our trip is currently scheduled for 7/7-7/14.

Maybe part of the difference is availability. DVC members have had the ability to modify reservations and make new reservations while that has not been available at other resorts since the reopening was announced. It would not surprise me if there is noticeably less available DVC rooms starting around the 11th. There are also likely to be a lot more guests willing to travel when the parks are opening back up than while the parks were closed. So more people needing to be moved into fewer available rooms at the resorts announced to be open. I think that Disney is trying to figure out what to do from both safety and PR perspectives. Disney also will not have the normal number of cast members, and can't put guests in Coronado Springs if the NBA is there. So there is a giant puzzle to work out a plan while everyone wants to know what that plan looks like.
I want to suggest patience, but I want to know what will be going on with the parks in September when I have a trip scheduled.

Our dates are July 10-15. I tried to call, but did not have any luck getting information regarding whether our hotel (ASMovies) will be open or whether we will be relocated. I think it's interesting that they are basing this on check-out days and not check-in days, but I understand the logic of wanting to assess resort capacity before the parks' opening days. However, something must be happening with my reservation because my confirmation number changed in MyDisney Experience today. (I hope that is a good thing. I am not wishing for a relocation or upgrade; I just don't want it to be cancelled.) Fingers crossed!
