Resolve to Declutter in 2010 with me....

I have not done anymore decluttering since I did my closet and dressers since I have been busy with the end of the holiday season. I am headed back to school in the beginning of February and want to get as much done as I can before then.

Tomorrow I want to declutter the linen closet and better organize it so we can find things easier.

WooHoo :woohoo: Got quite a bit done this afternoon!! I went thru my bin of old purses and pitched the ones to gross to use any more, and cleaned up some to donate, and made room in there for my new purses and bags that have been stacked up in my room. Went thru some old shoes, pitched some old random crap. I'm about half-way thru my closet!! I feel so good!!

I am going to do this soon- WWYD though with all the pictures of nieces and nephews ect who have grown up now- I was thinking of giving them the pictures to keep, but I don't want to look bad LOL.

I went through and just saved the best ones of people like nieces and nephews. I didn't give them back to them or anything. I was just selective on what I kept and pitched the rest. It sounds a bit harsh.....but you can only save so much!

I'm tired after the first day back to real life after the vacation, but managed 30 min. working on stuff in bedroom again. 2 bags of garbage - mostly kids papers I stashed but didn't go thru.

(OP here) Finally 5 days into the challenge I did some work! I spent 2 hours yesterday morning sorting the master bedroom - I had box to put things away, box for goodwill and trashbag. Removed 25% of clothes from the closet for donations (smaller sizes, haven't worn it, etc), 2 purses, couple of belts, several pairs of shoes, new unused novelty socks.

How do so many random items end up in my bedroom that should not be there - the put away box was overflowing. Like DVDs but we don't watch tv in the bedroom and we don't a dvd player in there either... I could only get my DH to give up one shirt, one pair of shoes....baby steps.

Thanks for all your updates - it is motivational!

Finally kids went back to school yesterday-- I got through the family room (did the dining room on Sunday afternoon) making a pile in the corner for goodwill-- my biggest problem is going to be the basement!

Yesterday I went through out linen closet and got rid of two bags worth of trash. I also reorganized and now every family member has a shelf (there are only two of us). The very bottom of the closet now has nothing in it so I think I am going to go out and get a rubbermaid tote and put all of the seasonal table cloths and towels in there.

Yeah, what do I DO with all these pictures? My DSis gave me some from when DD was little that I had given her....I wonder if I could return the favor...

Maybe you could box up the stuff you and your DH are needlessly holding onto (usually for sentimental reasons but sometimes it's "that cost me so much $$$ I am keeping it") but that isn't worn or used. After a month (or whatever time period you choose), has anything been pulled out of those boxes? No? The maybe that 'stuff' should be given to Goodwill or similar charity where people *will* use it.

agnes!

Tackled some of DD's closet -- her room is the worst. Lots of toys & junk. So I got 2 bags of clothes, a bag of trash, and a bag of toys to donate. Didn't take too long. It's not done, but it makes me feel good that I did something in there because it is the most daunting! Little steps...

Since we have had not so great weather around here I have gotten some stuff done (I also had to curl up and watch movies and drink hot chocolate you know). I cleaned out the boxes from under my bed and went from three to just one and have a goodwill bag all set to take up there as soon as the weather gets better.

Yesterday I also tackled the old pantry shevles in our basement and got rid of a ton of expired food. I then converted those shelves from food storage to storage for cleaning supplies (one side) and small appliances (the other side).

Tomorrow we are putting the christmas decorations away and I plan on going through all of those and getting rid of stuff.

I cleaned off my craft table today. DH finally got the shelves put up for me so I could organize all my stuff. I also cleaned out the cleaning supplies. I had more than one nearly empty things that I used up today so I could toss them.

Now that we got the Christmas tree put away things are looking better.

Worked on my closet today. Moved here 18 months ago ( with almost no clothes since I lost a bust of weight and ditched most of my clothes before the move) and it has been busting as the seems for a year even with other season clothes in the basement. So cleaned out a big black trash bag and it is still so packed like I didn't do anything . :(

I went through our plastic container cupboard the other day, how many cool water bottles does a family need?
Now I started on my scrapbooking/spare room with a complete make over, I told DH I need boxes and cheap garbage bags this weekend.
Boy I hope I can keep up with it all, we would love to buy another house soon.

How can one family accumulate so much paper? I work ft outside of the house so I have spent my time collecting and sorting papers so far. The important stuff is being scanned and the rest is in the shredder. God help me when I reach the basement. They may have to send in search and rescue to find me lol

I know the computer doesn't necessarily count as "clutter," but ours is overwhlemed with several years of Disney pics, youth sports, etc, and no one ever went thru to delete duplicates, bad ones, etc. Hubby's supposed to start on that today since he bought an external hard drive. We'll see...:confused3

When my Gram died, my mom gave me all the school pictures of me that Gram had. I had none of my own, and mom still wanted hers. It was nice to get them. Maybe you give them to the kids if they are grown.

I've been lurking here and waiting for my opportunity to declutter. We put Christmas away this weekend so I'm on my way. :cool1: This week while the kids are in school I hope to get the legos into new containers, get underneath all the furniture, and sift through some storage baskets.

The big big BIG job to tackle is the office, and some of that will be needed for taxes, so I know hubby will be willing to help. Involves shredding, which I bet the kids would be willing to help with. ;)

Good luck to everyone!

The pantry is done, refrigerator freezer is done, hubby's closet is purged, my dresser is purged, xmas stuff is next. Laundry almost done, pictures moved from the computer to the jumpdrive, chili in the crockpot, planning meals for the rest of the week. Walked 2 miles outside. Feels good to have some control in my crazy life. May even have time for a nice long soaking bath this afternoon. need to reward for a job well done.

Well, I have been posting about all the destashing I have been doing around my house. It feels soooo good!! I am destashing my body too and am down 5 pounds. I decided that part of my xmas present to my 81 year old mother was to destash her apartment too. That is a daunting tasks. Only 2 bedrooms and 2 baths , but..... She has lived there for 5 years( since my Dad passed). She is very happy and has her kitty to keep her company and is very active with little ladies groups in her small town. Well, I went up (100 miles North of here) on Saturday Morning and started. 10 big black bags of trash ( paper, broken things, newpapers, boxes, etc...) and 10 big black bags to go to Consignment later) and she is a happy momma. I rearranged her guest room , brought clear plastic bins , filled them and labeled them. You can actually walk in the guest room. It looks really nice now. I also did her fridge, pantry, food cupboard, catbox, laundry and got all her xmas stuff is put up in the garage. I got her to stand in her closet and get rid of somethings before she put her new stuff in. She did really well. I think we got rid of about 2 black bags of clothes. She was really happy. Packaged some things up to return to sender and cleaned off the table and mail. Whew! This was about 18 hours of pure destashing over 2 days. I feel good , she feels good!! Win -Win Situation. One more weekend up there to really do her bedroom and other closets and a thorough cleaning and dusting and it will be good and new. She just cannot get to things like she used to. Still loves to read and watch TV, is very social and busy with ladies groups, ect... Am happy for that. Want her to enjoy her final years as independent as possible for as long as she can.

I want to sooo bad, but can't! I started right before Cmas decluttering and had to stop this month. My OB said a few weeks ago I was to be on bed rest and try not moving until my csection on 1/25 so now my living room is a freakin mess since it was "ground central" for stuff from other rooms lol. I had just started in there going through it when I got the Dr's order and now it's covered in half filled to go to goodwill bags and about 12 storage totes to be filled to go to storage. I am having trouble letting DH finish it for me cause he tries to toss stuff I want to keep..but I think I am gonna have to just sit on the couch and watch him like a hawk while he finishes it.

Oh and I had a baby shower and didn't have room to put the stuff away until the decluttering was done so that stuff is everywhere too..grr...I HATE having my house disorganized..darn OCD lol..

Legos are done, got underneath all the furniture, and cleaned some of the bedrooms upstairs. My daughter's room looks great! I went through both of the kids' bookcases and weeded out ABC and 123 books - I think we are waaaaaay past that now! Made room on the shelves for books that were piling up on top and the floor. Looks so much nicer now, and my daughter can get to her books so much easier. She's upstairs reading right now!

I've been avoiding those baskets - but I did do a little in the office. There is a little more elbow room for when we need to start the big stuff. I feel good that I have actually accomplished something around the house, in addition to it actually looking nicer.

:)
