My wife and I are thinking about buying into the DVC. Does anyone have a recomendation on what resort I should buy into? Saritoga Springs seems like the best value, because of the extended time of the contract. Am I missing something? Does it matter if I buy directly through Disney? The resales seem like a better deal. Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

I've sent you a PM on our resale experience which was prior to the current incentive Disney is offering. You need to research the resorts and see which appeals to you. If the additional 12 years is important to you, then SSR might be the right choice. If one of the other resorts appeals to you, then buying a resale contract will be the best value. We've always liked the location of SSR because our kids like to walk to DTD.

Keep in mind if you purchasing through Disney now you'll receive your 2005 points, but only have around a month of maintenance fees. These points are bankable.

We bought resale about 5 years ago at the Boardwalk and there is no difference then buying straight from Disney other then how many years you have left on the membership. The people we bought from became members in 1998 so we only lost out on 2 years. But 40+ years is good enough for me. :earsboy: Even our member card says members since 1998. I would pick the Boardwalk resale if you could. Its a first class hotel and you can walk to Epcot and use the back entrance (no lines) and you can walk to MGM.

We just bought a resale this Spring at OKW, and I checked out each resort in person. I personally wouldn't buy at SSR, I didn't like the feel of it. Others love it, and the 12 years is a big bonus. We are only 31, and I can tell you, the 12 years didn't matter to me at all because I wanted to own where I felt the best about. You can get 1000 different opinions on this board, and I am just glad on the trip before we bought I had seen them all. Now, that said, my next purchase would probably be at BWV if we do an add-on.

Yep its all about what you like best. Even though the other resorts are "sold out" if you buy from Disney you can be put on a waitlist for the points if you want. However resale might get you there faster.

To me we like being able to walk to DTD and the 12 extra years was big for us. It was my personal choice to spend less per point, get 12 extra years, and have a year old resort then spend more per point, less years and an older resort.

But that was my preference. Do what works for you.

It is possible to book the other resorts at seven months, though the general advice here is to "buy where you want to stay." SSR is the only onsite resort I wouldn't want to stay at - we bought before it was being sold and did a BWV resale rather than buying BCVs - which was what Disney was selling when we bought. Had VWL been being actively sold (apparently, if I had known enough to pout, I could have still bought VWL from Disney), we'd have bought from Disney. But BCV didn't appeal to us and a resale, at the time, saved us about $700 on 150 points.
