Resale and Use Year - So Confused

My husband and I have gone back and forth on whether or not to buy DVC. I want to, but my husband has been very hesitant about purchasing 160 points. However, I've found a 50 point resale that looks good to both of us with a Use Year of June 09. Since the points are not available until June 09, does that mean that I would have to wait until that date to make a home resort reservation that would happen after June 09?

Once you are in the system (and I have no idea how long that would take, so it might be August of 2008 or closer to June of 2009 -- I'm sure others can tell you that) you can make a reservation at your home resort 11 months ahead of time. At that time is when you can look at the points -- since it's already July of 2008 you can make a reservation for, say, August of 2009 which would be after your June 1 2009 UY.

If you (are in the system and) want to make a reservation for April of 2009, you can do that by borrowing from your 2009 points.

The short answer is no, you don't have to wait until after the start of your UY to make reservations. Based on when the reservation starts will determine if you're in that particular UY or if you have to borrow or bank points to make the reservation you want.

The date of your stay would have to start after June 09 or you would need to borrow as the previous poster stated.

For us, we were in the system within a week or so of closing which took 8 weeks from the time we made our offer and went to ROFR.
