Replacing the clown

I was just reading a thread on the resorts board where people were saying that they wouldn't go to the Boardwalk because of the clown. I have read similar things here in the past. Although it is nowhere near a deal breaker for me - in fact I hope it keeps other people away, lol - I can see why guests wouldn't like it. It has a cheap look to it, especially since the red in the hair is fading to a pinkish color. On top of that, some people just don't like clowns, especially ones with stars in its eyes.

So, with that said, why wouldn't Disney replace it? Isn't it just a facade? You would think that they could pop it off and replace it with something else relatively cheaply.

What wold you replace it with? I thought it could be replaced with some type of facade that makes it look like the roller coaster is emptying out into the water and YOU are the coaster. Either that or simply replacing it with vintage carnival/boardwalk signs.

Lol, I vote for keeping it. I think clowns are creepy too, but if it keeps people away maybe we could plant some more around the resort:)

It's not like the clown was just something that Disney made up. It is a replica of a Jersey boardwalk icon. I can't believe that people make this big of a deal over that clown. :confused3

I don't get it, either. I would keep the clown and not replace it with anything. The themeof the Jersey boardwalk is perfect as it is.

An irrational fear of clowns shouldn't force Disney to change something that doesn't need changing.

I remember when the MGM Grand in Vegas had the WofOz theme and the casino entry was thru the mouth of the biggold lion. Many foreign guests would not walk thru the lions mouth and the MGM lost money.
They scrapped the whole theme and spent millions to replace the entrance
if the BWV was Losing money because of the clown m sure he would be history by now.

Unfortunately, the clown is a big part of the theme. I've thought about it some, and can't figure out what you would replace it with that would totally be in theme, and also see that the pool slide needs something.

So unless you can come up with something...keep it.

BTW, I love the elephants, etc.

I say keep it, it's kind of like the one we saw in Sydney as well.

My thought exactly! People can get their knickers in a twist over the strangest things!:confused3

Boardwalk doesn't seem to have an occupancy problem so I don't think it keeps a significant number of people away. It's been there almost 14 years.

I don't get adults being afraid of the clown. One woman posted that she ran away screaming when she saw the clown. :confused3

After seeing the photo of the original clown, Disney should keep their clown in Luna Park. It's all about the theme. :confused3

I think the clown should stay and I hate clowns. Someone one the other thread said the stars in the eyes might be the problem. However, after looking at the Sydney clown, I think changing the eyes would make it worse.

My suggestion is to turn it around so when people come down the slide they would find themselves going into the clowns mouth.;)

The anti clown sentiment is overblown. Keep the clown and get rid of the people who make a big deal out of inanimate objects.

Exactly!

IMO, the parking situation is a larger deterrent than the clown, anyway

Agreed! I just switched from a Boardwalk view studio to BCV because we will have a car next month and I don't want to deal with the parking situation.

Adults can deal with it, Clown fobia is relatively common with younger kids so I could see someone being concerned on a first visit, but there is always a quite pool.
