Rep.Stark (D) Should apologize!

Well...I guess at least he didn't accuse our military of being "cold blooded murderers" like Murtha did. Now THAT is someone who owe's a HUGE appology - but I won't hold my breath.

Or phony soldiers.

Or suicide bombers.

Read your article on the Conservative Board again. One of the soldiers had his charges dismissed because he agreed to tesify against another. What do you think he is testifying about? The soldiers were attacked and then acted in a way that caused 24 people to die. Of them, at least 7 were women and children that had a grenade tossed into a room they were in. Why should Murtha apologize for what he said about this?

Rep. Stark doesn't owe me a thing. He can say what he likes. I can too (handshakes all around, cheering, back-slapping etc).....

If his comments accurately represent his constituencies point of view, fine. He has done his job. If his comments do not, somebody has some work to do.

I'm betting the Congressman was simply having a bad day and his raging case of BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome- heard this the other day :rotfl2: ) made him say something "impolitic".

Hate is funny sometimes.

The only apology that should be made is one from President Bush to the people of the USA. What a mess he has created. I feel sorry for the democrat that wins the next election having to clean up after 8 years of this disaster.

The upside is that GW set some nice precedents for the executive branch to use power. I can't wait to hear the outrage from all the Bush supporters when Hillary (or whoever) uses the SAME powers that GW used! :rotfl:

Actually closer to 6 years by the time he leaves office.... but what the heck. Feels like 8.

We now know that he's been spying since he got in office. But all that domestic spying didn't stop 9/11. Guess it makes the arguement that it's keeping us safer now fall flat.

Provided this same power is used on people who want to kill us all, I do not have a problem.

Are you suggesting that Democrats are going to start persecuting their political adversaries using the Patriot Act? Is this something you condone? Seems......well.......um........totalitarian doncha think?

Not at all, but I do expect that a Democrat wiretapping phone calls won't sound as innocent to some as a Republican doing it. I think that a Democratic VP placing himself or herself in a branch of government all their own won't be looked upon as calmly to some as it was when Cheney did it. I don't think a Democratic administration keeping so much secret under the heading of national security will fly as well with some as it does under GW. I don't think that National Terror Level announcements will be viewed the same way when made by Democrats as they are now.

Of course, when all these complaints do arise, GW and his administration have provided many examples of why it's perfectly ok.

WASHINGTON, D.C. Ð House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement regarding remarks made on the House floor by Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) during the debate on the State ChildrenÕs Health Insurance Program (SCHIP):

"Our troops in Iraq are fighting against al-Qaeda and other radical jihadists hellbent on killing the people we are sent here to represent. Congressman StarkÕs statement dishonors not only the Commander-in-Chief, but the thousands of courageous men and women of AmericaÕs armed forces who believe in their mission and are putting their lives on the line for our freedom and security. Congressman Stark should retract his statement and apologize to the House, our Commander-in-Chief, and the families of our soldiers and commanders fighting terror overseas."

During debate on the SCHIP children's health care legislation today, Rep. Stark stated: "You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement."

 ...

He should apologize! It's crass, shameful, and disrespectful. :sad2:

As a congressman he certainly should know how to disagree without stooping that low.

If his comments accurately represent his constituencies point of view, fine. He has done his job.

I am one of his constituents and he did express the frustration we feel. The "for the President's amusement " comment was off track, but I think he got caught up in his anger. And I can't say I blame him.

This isn’t about supporting the war or supporting the troops. It’s about the rep saying the president finds soldiers deaths amusing. I guess all of you that have come in and added your “he’s right! I agree with him!” also believe Bush enjoys watching our children die in war. It’s sick really (to believe he would find this amusing). Agree with the war or not, you can’t seriously believe Bush enjoys watching soldiers get blown apart (or, as demonstrated by this thread, perhaps you can…). I’m can’t say I’m surprised with many of the responses though, considering the current political attitude on the DIS.

I agree that the bolded line was over the top.

What I don't agree with is the amount of time and energy we spend on demanding apologies and being outraged with what gets said on the House and Senate floor, what ads get put in the NY Times, with what talk radio hosts and TV show commentators say and all these other things that are TRIVIAL in relation to the fact that we are still in Iraq with no end in sight, that Osama is still making videos from a cave, that middle class families are struggling with higher costs of everything, that people in our country don't have health care, that illegal immigrants are continuing to pour over the border and use our resources....

If that is all you took from his statement, that is all you WANTED to take out of it.:sad2:

He is expressing the anger that many AMericans are feeling.

He is not disrespecting the troops. He is pissed at the President for entering into a war of choice, poorly equipt, poorly staffed, and thoroughly unable to handle the aftermath of the war. We are stuck in a quagmire that will drain us financially for decades. The innocent loss of life of Iraqis and Americans will continue.

Yeah he is angry. I am too.

It's too bad Rep. Stark didn't use what you just wrote above. It would have been a lot better and got right to the point. What he said was stupid, IMO and should have been done differently. While I don't agree with his choice of words, I understand his anger. There's a lot of people angry over this war, how it was conceived, planned, and carried out. I find it amazing that some who still support the POTUS over Iraq, just dismiss this anger as trivial and childlike. It's a serious matter and the people who are upset and dissatisfied, have a good reason to be. The sheer amount of dollars and precious resources wasted in Iraq is enough to make any reasonable person sick to their stomach. I dread opening up my newspapers in the morning and seeing the chaos that's still going on in Iraq, almost 5 years later.

Let's not worry about that though and we need concentrate on this Rep.Stark and punish him for his words. Maybe a lengthy, televised trial on the grounds of sedition is in order. That will teach him to speak out using improper grammar and poorly constructed sentences when insulting the POTUS. As my 4th grade teacher would say, bring it on!

If that is all you took from his statement, that is all you WANTED to take out of it.:sad2:

I didn't take anything out of it. I read and listened to what he said. Don't blame me for his words.

Maybe the left could actually accomplish something if they'd get over their hatred of the president. They can cry and whine all they want, he's not going anywhere until 2009.

Most of the country is fed up with how the President has handled the the war. Some are more vocal about it.
