Renting: (Total Noob Questions)

Hi gang!

My wife and I are thinking about taking the plunge into the magical world of DVC. We live in Orlando but love our "get-aways" to Disney when we can. We'd like to try out some of the various DVC resorts and wanted to know how we go about renting some points/time. Some questions I have for the group...

1. Which DVC resort should we try first?
2. We've stayed at teh Animal Kingdom Lodge, is that the same as the AKV?
3. How many average points needed for a weekend "get-away"?
4. Anyone have any offers they'd like to extend?

The onsite DVC resorts are OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV and SSR - and AKV beginning this September.

Which to try is definitely a personal preference as each has it's own style, theme and amenities. Depending on your tastes, you may enjoy some more than others.

AKV is currently being built - some villas will be within the current AKL structure and the majority will be in a separate building due to open in 2009.

Points needed on weekends are double weekend nights, so you may be able to get a weekend reservation at a DVC for less money by reserving thru Disney directly (CRO). Be sure to do a comparison before renting Friday or Saturday nights. Reservations provided by DVC members will not have daily housekeeping, while cash reservations will have that service.

Once you know the resort, dates and type of room you'd like to try, post your request on the DVC Rent/Trade Board. Discussions about renting are not allowed there, but are welcome on this board.
