Renting points/SSR Check in question

Hello,

I check in to SSR on the 28th. We are renting points for the first time and are very excited. I have not sent our member any room requests and I don't plan on doing online check in, I'm hoping the front desk clerk can help me choose my room. We are two adults and I think bus and boat proximity are key, we aren't there long enough to do much more than the parks and a night at DTD. We won't really be spending any pool time this trip (sadly).

So I'm thinking Grandstand, by the bus stop, so we can be not too far of a walk to the lobby/boat/etc. and be the first on the bus in the mornings.

I would like the Springs too (refurbed rooms right?) but I don't want to chance full or oftentimes SRO busses to the parks. Does this make sense?

Do you think I will have success just waiting for check in to make my room selection?

Thank you!

Your room will be pre-assigned before you check in. If it's ready, the CM will give you the room number and if you aren't satisfied with the location, you can ask if there is anything else available. If your room is not available, the CM may tell you the general location of your room. Again, you may ask if it can be changed. In over a dozen DVC stays, I've never been given the opportunity to "choose my room" at check in.

My family owns at Sabal Palms at the Marriott World Center and we've always gotten to choose from what was available by looking at a map at check in. Thought this would be similar.

Should I ask my member to make a request? Or should I do online check in and make a request?

If you want to make a request it needs to be done before you arrive either by the member you made your rental with or by online check in.

Also know it is next to impossible to request a particular building, you will need to be more general than that such as Grandstand or Springs, etc.

Right now only Congress Park and Springs have the new decor.

The Grandstand is a good hike to the front desk/boat area however it is the first bus stop.

I would suggest the Springs which is the closest to the front desk/boat area.

If you want a certain area then have the owner put that request in. I would do online check in. It much faster than waiting in the regular line. People who have done the online check in have their own seperate check in line which moves very fast since everything is already for you. All you have to do is show ID and sign the form and out the door you go. At the regular check in they have to look up the reservation, printed out the forms/room keys, assemble the welcome packet. Check your ID and have you sign the forms. Remember they have to do this process for everyone ahead of you in the regular check in line which will increase the amount of time you wait to see a CM to check in.

FWIW, they still have bugs in on line check-in after X years of trying to get it right. I continue to use this service but wonder why........it rarely saves me ANY time.

We arrived at BWV Sat AM. Room not ready. That's OK, but CM says he does not have the keys. I ask what's the point of online checkin if you guys don't have the keys ready? I want to charge to the yet to be determined room and have been given the "blind" keys numerous times for doing so. He repeats he does not have the keys. We give him the number for texting us when room is ready. Once we get the text, we are to come back to wait in line to get the keys. Progress.

Fast forward 2 hours. We are passing thru the lobby and "just check" to see if room is ready. Of course it is! Why no text message? Dumb smile. OK, can we have the keys? CM - "You already have them". No, we don't. We retell morning story. CM - "OK, I'll reprint them for you."

Keep working on that online checkin, guys. In a few short years all of the bugs should be worked out.
