Renting Points/Split Stays/Room Request Questions

We took the plunge and are renting points for a split stay this coming December. We are spending 4 nights each at Old Key West and then the Beach Club Villas. We have two bedroom villas booked and will have a party of 8 people. This will be the longest we have stayed at WDW at one time and we have been planning this for a couple of years.

I have gone on on-line check in after linking our resort reservations and was disappointed with the room request options. The ones at the BCV were okay (we want an upper floor with a large balcony) but at Old Key West there were no options of requesting a water view or a villa with a passageway through the laundry room to the main bathroom so that you don't disturb sleepers in the master bedroom.

We are often fairly specific with our room requests (we use the TouringPlans room finder). We are renting the points through a point rental service and our agent said that she would relay our room requests to the appropriate renters. Is this all that we can do? Or can we use the fax service provided by TouringPlans to request more specific rooms? Would this have to come from the original point owner?

We have stayed at BCV before with a Disney reservation several years ago, but this is our first time renting points and don't want to overstep what we feel is a good thing. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Your room requests should be submitted to Member Services thru the owners. That is the best way to ensure that it gets noticed by a room assigner. You should also be aware that making an online room request thru MDE will override any request made thru MS, so it is best not to do one online in addition to what the owner gives to MS.

ETA: One more thing- room requests are just a request. With DVC operating at near 100% occupancy year-round, you often get what comes close to your request and very rarely exactly what you want. It's best to prioritize your requests and limit them to 2 or 3 broad categories such as upper floor, near an elevator, Turtle Pond section, etc.

Thanks for the advice. That helps a bunch.

We called MS to note our room request for SSR for a trip next week. We told MS we would like to be close to the Carriage House and on the top floor, and those are the same requests we made via online check-in. The CM at MS we spoke with asked if there was a specific building we'd like noted as a request (and she stressed that it is just a request, and we know that). I'm wondering if I should just remove our online check-in requests, or leave them as they are the same as what we asked for through MS?

On that note, I concur with the advice to keep it to 1-3 things that are most important. Also, be sure that the features you want are available in the room type you have booked. In my case, I can't request a room in the Paddock or Carousel areas because I am booked in a preferred studio, as an example.

DVC has asked members not to bother with faxing requests since they usually just toss them in the trash. With a December reservation, the resorts you have booked are going to have 100% occupancy if not a bit less. You might not get any requests. They are just requests after all.

With the door through the laundry room to the shower/toilet room at OKW, just ask the owner to request Turtle Pond or South Point to have the best chance of getting that.
