Can anyone tell me about how this can be done... such as prices to rent, then prices paid to the DVC to reserve? Also, if you have suggestions of which DVC resort would be the best choice for a reasonable price for a couple who enjoys Epcot activities the most, I would be very appreciative! We had booked the Wilderness Lodge, but then read a lot of recent negative reviews... so we booked at the Swan. Now we are rethinking things. I believe a one-bedroom DVC location would be ideal. Thanks for any info! ~Ev :)

I think you will most likely get a much better answer to your question if you look at the DVC boards. One of the forums has a sticky all about rental procedures and what to look for. However, I must warn you that renting points is a hazard. I rented points and now I own DVC because of it, lol. ;)

Actually, I wanted to post this here rather than there for several reasons. First, I want suggestions for best romantic places to stay, not family places. Second, I want to hear about strategies, and it specifically says on the renting board that it is to function as "want ads"... not conversation. And third, I'm more than 6 months out from our travel date, and the forum states to refrain from posting earlier than that. So, this is the correct forum for my needs right now. We want to get our "ducks in a row" earlier than 180 days, and not make any mistakes in how we go about booking it, so open discussion is probably the best idea for us to get started.~Ev :)

I just rented points for my site visit this past Feb. It was really easy ,however it does involve turst. I would recommend the Boardwalk. It was very nice, I didn't notice an abundace of kids. It was great jsut strolling the boardwalk at night and watching the performers! There are so many options for adults. Jellyrolls sounded great! (I couldn't get in however because I was just shy of 21). The Dance club looked like fun too! I think renting DVC would be cheeper for you too. Our 5 night stay cost $500 dollars. The price goes up however for the weekend!! My advice would be to rent during the week (check in sun check out fri). Try not to pay more than 10 dollars a point.
I also made sure that the person I rented from was acquainted with the boards (50 posts or more).

If you have any other questions let me know. We are renting points for our honeymoon as well! (haven't gotten them yet but have started looking)

They must have changed it then. I asked all my questions on the DVC board not the Rent/Trade board (that one is for posting adds and I rented my points at a year out from the travel date) If you are 6 months out you'll need to get on the ball soon b/c DVC is a system where you have to plan early to get what you want. I would suggest you stay wherever the theme most suits you. For us it is OKW and SSR b/c they are more quiet, have better parking, and are away from the parks. If you want to walk to EPCOT then BCV or BWV would be your best bet. All of the resorts have an equal mixture of couples and families so you really are not better off at one that another. Our stay for 12 nights at OKW was 240 points equal to 2,400 dollars. This was for a one bedroom though. At SSR the same stay was 2,680.

Really the whole transaction is about trust. You find out how many points you need. Post them on the rent/trade board and many owners will find you. You will just have to pick the one whose conditions fit your needs. If you have any detailed questions I still really recommend the DVC forum not the rent/trade board b/c those folks are long time owners and renters and can give you very detailed and helpful information. Good luck!

This is not always the case. I have not rented my points before yet but I know one person on the boards who owns 2,000 points and charges 11-12 per point. This is a very good deal from this person b/c he is a veteran with over 3,000 posts, he will hold your hand the whole way through, and practically acts as your travel agent the whole way. His payment terms are very resonable and he is easy to work with. Unfortunately he has rented all of his points this year but don't run off just b/c someone charges more than 10 a point. I'd run more from the people that just 1-50 posts on the boards than someone charging a little more. I'd rather pay more for the peace of mind than to worry constantly about the person I rented from who gave me a "deal" Thats just my 2 cents though. I really hope you find someone like him to rent from

I will say that if you do need full and valuable advice then I would suggest posint on the relevant DVC board.

That said as a fellow Disney Bride and Honeymooner let me talk you through my thoughts on this subjet:

I own DVC but LOL not nearly enough points for how much I travel but the hubby doesn't believe in loans so unless I have all the cash up front to make a full payment I'm not allowed to buy anymore points so I end up renting extras

I usually rent at $10 a point but that's just from my buddies. I have friends who have rented using the DVC rental board and they rented at $11-$12 and from my experience that does seem to be the going rate. It can still work out a lot cheaper than paying out to stay in a Deluxe. Obviously there is a big downside for me in staying at a DVC property on points, someone doesn't come make my bed everyday - if I'm on my honeymoon I want this to happen LOL

Romantic choices hmmm well I've stayed in all the DVC resorts except Saratoga but I spent nearly a whole day there in December in my girlfriends one-bedroom. I would deffo recommend the one-bedroom if you can because the King Bed and Jacuzzi bath in the Master Bedroom make that romantic stay even more romantic ;)

Beach Club Villas - I love the location and the amenities and being able to do Stormalong Bay is fabarooney, we stayed here for the tail end of our honeymoon and loved it, it's our home resort, but we had just spent a romantic week on the Disney Magic - so I couldn't necessarily say that I found BCV a romantic ambience.

OKW - The villas are all big here and I find this resort a lot quieter than the Boardwalk or BC. But I do find the rooms here very "tired" looking and not as shiny. It doesn't spell romantic for me as such but definitely soothing and relaxing.

Boardwalk - This can be romantic - the rooms are big and just being on the Boardwalk and eating at a different place every night then just walking back to your room is just great. Sitting on that Boardwalk and people watching ::sigh:: yup it can be a romantic place if a little "busy"

Saratoga Springs - if you're going to be room hermits then this would be my choice, they're so new and so tastefully decorated - I love this place and can't wait to stay here and it has that beautiful spa on site too. Can't really judge on romantic level just yet.

Wilderness Lodge Villas - We stayed here for our 1st Anniversary and I felt it very romantic - we had a woods view room and the ambience of this place is so rustic and Lodge like, with winding paths and the beach so close, and the lagoon - that fireplace in the Lodge itself - I love the pool. Yup this would be my pick of romantic DVC resorts.

Hope that helps :)

Fantasia Sam, that is EXACTLY the information I was hoping to receive... someone who would narrow down their choices based on the romance factor. The place most people are thinking along those lines is in this forum! Thank you for the feedback. Interestingly, the two I was most interested in are both on your list for romance.... Boardwalk Villas and Wilderness Lodge Villas. I'm not sure we can swing the price for WLV, but BWV are definitely "do-able" if we can get the points for the dates we need. I'll pitch both to hubbie and see what he goes for. Again, thank you! Also, thank you sajetto and nkkilala for your info. This place is so great!

P.S. - If anyone here knows someone personally who is looking to rent points for either of these resorts for Dec 17-23, 2006, please let me know! ~Ev :)

Oh goody Ev - I'm so glad I could help :thumbsup2

I don't know of anyone personally who is looking to rent points, but just so you know each DVC member has an allotted amount of points for a year that can be used whenever they want - so basically we don't have points for certain times of the year - we can rent them out, as long as we have the number you need, for whenever we want - I really would check out that DVC rental board, it really won't hurt.

Actually, I checked it out this afternoon. I sent a few PM's of inquiry to some who had already posted first, and one wrote back with very good suggestions on how to post and ask for what I want effectively. Then I posted a request. I already successfully got a villa for my parents booked at Beach Club (we tried for BWV, but I couldn't find enough points that could book there yet). I'm still trying to find enough points to book the second villa for Tom and me. I still need 40 more that are transferrable. What I'm running in to is that many of those DVC'ers who are looking to rent have points that expire before December, or else they cannot make a reservation at BWV or BCV until we hit the 7-month mark. I would feel much more comfortable having the reservations set now, especially since I was told that studios at BCV and BWV are both quite difficult to get during the holidays. Soooo, I trudge on! If anybody here knows someone who has 40 points they would be willing to rent for either of those locations, please let me know! ~Ev :)
