Renting points and use year question

Hi, hope this is ok to ask on this sight-we're renting points for the first week in Feb. 205 points, the person I'm renting from, their use year is 6/1/21-6/1/2022. We're within 30 days of going. If we want to reschedule, can we use those points to book this July, or does it have to be before June of 2022 since that's their use year?

Check out can be no later than June 1st. Since you are within 30 days those points also go into holding if you cancel so you would only be able to make reservations within 60 days of booking.

If they have a June UY, the points will expire on 5/31/22 so you can't use them in July. Sorry . In addition, since you want to cancel within 30 days of your check-in date those points will go into "holding". That means that they can only be booked within 60 days of the check-in date.

As already mentioned, if the owner allows changes, then at this point any new reservation will have to be made no sooner than 60 days prior to your arrival and the last night must be May 31st, 2022.

Correct. So, as of today, the owner could book you for any trip starting up to and including April 2nd. But, as mentioned, the last night will be May 31st. The points can not be used for any nights from June 1st on.

Again, this all assumes your owner allows for changes as some owners do not.

Yes. So a booking made today could be no later than March 4.

Your trip would have to end no later than 5/31.

So you'd be gambling on spring availability.

Just as an example, if you book all the way out into May, you will have to make the reservation 60-days in advance in March. You can't make the reservation any sooner.

Think of it this way: points in holding are eligible to be used on a reservation that starts within a 60-day rolling window starting from the current date. The front of window stops on May 31st and the end of the window continues to roll forward until it also gets to May 31st. You can book AS SOON AS your check-in date falls within the rolling window. Be prepared to be flexible in your resort and even your room size as things tighten up 60 days in advance. You may have to do a split stay, a longer stay in a studio or a shorter stay in a 1BR to use the 205 points.

It's a real shame you didn't think about this a few days ago. If you had cancelled prior to 31 days before check-in, your family member might have been able to bank the points to use for you in July but since they are in holding they need to be used by May 31st.
