We hope to be renting points for our stay in early Feb. Once an agreement has been reached and the reservation is in place and a confirmation number given is there any way an outsider (not a member) can call member services just to confirm the reservation is in the system (not make changes etc)? If so what number should be used? Also under the same scenario how much is the normal dining plan (1 CS 1 TS) add on per adult and per child? Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!!

No, only members can speak directly with Member Services. They will not speak to a non-member about anything, including a rented-point reservation.

The regular dining plan is $39.99 per adult and $10.99 per child (3-9yo), the same as it is with a cash reservation through CRO.

Member services won't speak with you, sorry. The member owns the reservation until you check in, and MS won't even confirm the existence of a reservation for anyone but the owner (they ask for the member ID and partial SSN).

Some renters have reported that they were about to call the resort a few days before check-in and get confirmation then.

If you don't feel comfortable renting, then you shouldn't rent. The DIS has a sticky about renting on their rent trade board.

Do these prices include tax or are they taxed at all? and I assume that is price per day right. If we are checking in on a Saturday and checking out on a Saturday we are required to buy 7 days worth correct?

Thanks for the information!

The price listed is per night of your stay. The prices include tax. However, they do not include a gratutity. You'll need to tip as appropriate.

Yes - a check in on a Saturday and out the following saturday is 7 nights worth of credits. You must purchase the plan for every member of your party age 3 and older, for every night of your stay.

I have another question. Right now we are booked at Saratoga Springs for our 7nt trip. The person I am renting from has said we could be put on a waiting list for another resort if we so choose. Right now SSR comes out to 274 points for our trip and Boardwalk is 269. If we get put on the Boardwalk waiting list and do end up getting in is there a surcharge of points for getting the waitlisted property or would it still be 269 points.

And along the lines of the dining plan...what is the latest it can be added to a reservation?

Thanks!!!!!!!

There would be no surcharge from DVC. It would be between you and the member you are renting from to agree on any price change. Hopefully the member has enough points to be able to hold the SSR reservation until the BWV reservation is made or possibly risk losing the BWV reservation while cancelling the one at SSR. The member will have to deal with the possibility.

Good luck with the waitlist! :)

Can you explain what you mean in your above post. Are you saying the member needs to have enough points to cover both reservations. The way the member explained it to me is that if the wait listed property became available the points that were put down on the original reservation would slide over to the wait listed place and the difference would be refunded if going down like I have proposed or she would have to kick in more if say I wanted the Beach Club. Disney would do this almost automatically or is it more complicated than that?

It's a bit more complicated than that. First of all, DVC is a timeshare and not part of the rest of Disney's reservations system. Points are not cash and vice versa. If your owner makes a waitlist request and it comes through, he/she will be refunded the points if it is less or pay the points if it is more. The only translation to cash is between you and the owner.

First of all, a 5 point difference likely only translates to $50 or so for you. It's not worth the hassle to the owner or to you for that. Secondly, it appears you would be waitlisting for a standard view, and that is VERY difficult to get. I'd probably stick with what you have.

Thanks I think that is what we will do. It makes dining reservations a little easier knowing which area you will be sleeping in.

Everyone has been so helpful. Hopefully we will be able to buy in and get our own points in the future.

Additionally, it depends on the Member's use year, how close you are to the check in date, etc. Even though Boardwalk might be less points, the member may lose the 5 points (or lose being able to DO anything with them) if they cancel and rebook.

the member would need to add the dining plan for you at least 48 hours before arrival.

which means you would need to inform the member well in advance of that to give them time to contact MS.

Thanks, we are still trying to decide if it is cost advantageous for eveyone to buy in.

One more question and then I promise to be quiet for at least a little while.

Right now I am listed on the reservation as the "head" of the reservation and then everyone else in my party is also listed which includes my wife, kids and parents. We are flying in and will not get to MCO until 5:30pm. My parents are driving and in their mind will get there well before us. With me listed as "head" of the reservation can my parents still go ahead and check into our 2br villa or can only the "head" of the reservation do that? I understand if we might need to also check at the front desk as well, but if they get there 2hrs before us then I would love for them to go ahead and check in and be comfortable. If we need to change and put my dad as head we will.

Thanks again for all the wonderful help!

If you have requested a Standard view at BWV (that would be less points than SSR), it is very doubtful that it would come through. Now a preferred view might be more possible, but you would owe the member additional money since that would require more points.

We went ahead and will not be on a waiting list. We decided to stick with SSR.

Any adult whose name is on the reservation may check in. You do not all have to be there at the same time and the person who checks in does not have to be the "head" of the reservation. The first party to check in may get the keys for all occupants of the unit or leave the keys for the "still to arrive" at the front desk.

However, if you decide to do one of the Dining Plans, whoever checks in first must pay for the whole thing at that time. If you are all there at check in, you could each pay for your own DP (if that is what you wanted to do). Of course, you could reimburse your parents - up to you. Just something to think about. All room keys will have access to all of the DP credits.

One more thing - only one credit card per unit may be left so that you can charge purchases to the room (Or charge back meals not paid for by DP credits). All room keys, some room keys or no room keys may be allowed charging privileges. Again, up to you. Each room key has its own unique identifier so that when you see the bill, you can tell which key made a charge. As long as you go to the front desk before the last night of your stay (when the charges are uploaded), you can settle up individually if you like. Can even use more than one credit card).

Enjoy the trip!

Hi, sorry to jump in on the thread but if you are renting points and but you are also a DVC member yourself, are you able to check with MS about the reservation made by the person you have rented from? Or is it the same as for non-members?

Many thanks :thumbsup2

You can only check on reservations that you made with MS under your membership number.
