Renting my points?

Hello. First post, first question - am I in the right place for this next question?

My question is this... I'm a member and have about xx points in this use year that I was going to need to bank. However, it sadly looks like we won't be able to go to Dis in the next (use) year, so those points will be lost.

Is there a market to rent these xx points given that's kind of a low number? I'd hate to lose them.

Thanks very much for your help!

You don't rent points, you rent a reservation. Can't get much of a room for xx points. You could transfer the points to someone.

My advice is to try to transfer the points to another member. If you are unable to do that before your banking deadline, bank the points. Then you have a year to find someone who may want to rent a reservation.

Go to the Rent/Trade Board and read all of the sticky posts to see how it's done and feel free to ask more questions.

I edited your post (and disneynutz's) to remove the number of points since only general questions are allowed on the main boards. Specifics (such as resort and number of points) need to go on the R/T Board in your "ad".

Good luck!

if you transfer the pts, be sure to do it before your banking deadline. you cannot transfer the pts after they have been banked (and leaving the recipient time to bank the pts if they want to do so makes the points more valuable.)

Hello All, thanks very much for the responses. Any idea on the charge per point if renting a reservation?

You should be aware that if you rent a reservation, YOU are responsible for any charges the renter failed to pay and any damages they caused on their stay. When that happens disney will not let you make a res. on your membership until those costs have been paid. There are a few horror stories with people getting stuck with a large bill. Many people rent successfully, but because of the risk, I will never will. I would rather lose the points than take a risk that could be costly. That was the case last year when we had some banked points go unused.

Never have I lost a point. I would transfer my points before I would lose them... they are just too valuable. Of course, the amount you have has now been XXed out so I have no idea what you are even talking about point wise. I have rented to wonderful families. Never have I been left with a bill. You get a feel for the people as you deal with them as they do for you. Anyway, if it was me, I would bank or transfer.

Wouldn't one way to mitigate that be to transfer the points instead of rent a reservation? AFAIK once the transfer is done the original owner is "safe" and no longer responsible for the point use- or are they? Anyone know how that would work if something like unpaid charges or damage happened to a room booked with transferred points???

once the pts are transferred, they are owned by the DVC member who received the transfer.
