Hi all.

I have a quick question. To lead in, I'll say this............I've camped twice in a tent now and noticed some nice popups and pulled type campers on sites (not referring to the RV's).

My questions are..........

A) do you all just have tons of cash? LOL (more of a joke).

B), there's a camping world near me on my way to WDW. Has anyone had any experience in renting popups that have A/C and at least a small kitchenette?

I'm trying to convince my wife to camp but "camping" isnt her thing. I love being "on-site" but dont want to pay for places like the Contemporary and frankly would rather be at the campgrounds vs. All Star resorts.

My question is..........is it worth the money to rent these popup units? Do they have some basic private comforts my wife could enjoy (primarily A/C, beds, and a sink/oven combo? If I could find a cheap time of year to get a camp spot, would it be cost effective to rent one of these and haul it up for a long weekend?

I'm just looking to see if anyone has experience with rentals? Please be honest if its best not to.

I would definitely try it, at least once. Your DW may like it so much you buy your own camper. :thumbsup2

Rental, site and extra gas may be about the same price as a value resort. But, The Fort has so much more to offer. I think it's worth it.

It will cost quite a bit more than a "Value" rate to rent a Pop-Up; plus a site to put it on... for the same money you could rent a Cabin in Value Season with a 30% discount or Free dining. (There are a couple of people who are/were "regulars" on this board and have renting businesses. Alot of new people are routed their way...). That said, if you think you might want to buy a Pop-Up, it would be a good idea to rent one first. Just check around before choosing a rental. Have fun whatever you decide.

I briefly looked at this kind of setup and it was getting to or was over the cost of a moderate.

Ok. Thanks for the input!

I'll stick to tent camping for now! I just hate how I'm limited to cooler months (I dont sleep in heat). I'd consider spending some cash on a portable, electric A/C. I'm not trying to "cool" a tent, I know you cant do that. I'd like an A/C to simply blow on us while sleeping.

If I could do this, I could extend my camping season from Sept - May whereas right now I'm pretty much limited (especially with my wife and child) to Oct - March.

You can put AC in a tent.

There are "hillbilly" setups or something like this.

Very cool (literally).

That may be worth the investment as it can be used over and over and avoids us renting campers.

Very cool!

It may be perfect because my current tent is too small for my family (just for me right now) and if they started camping with me, I'd have to get another tent so I'd consider just getting one of those preinstalled.

Thanks for the heads up!

Renting is a wise choice, really lets you decide you want to take the plunge and buy. enjoy!

Camping wasn't my wife's "thing" either. The first RV show we went to after we were married, she literally broke out in hives.
Our first anniversary, she decided to appease me and try it and we rented a cabin at a KOA in Hagerstown, MD so we could go to Antietam. She got into it, sitting around the campfire etc. and last year we decided to try tent camping with our two DD's (2&3) for a weekend trip to Gettysburg. Well, she loved it. She said she slept like a rock and we had a great time. I did most of the cooking and setting up and cleaning, so she actually had a little vacation. We camped 4 more times and now she loves it. I try and go to places that she would enjoy seeing more than me, because I'm just happy camping. Now we are looking for a pop up and moving up the chain.
So my suggestion to you is to try the cabin thing and go from there. A little cheaper, and you aren't investing any money into a new tent or a rental.
Good Luck!

Best Regards,
Norm

I bought a portable AC last year for two weeks at the beach in July. I liked the portable AC because it was very easy to vent outside especially if the tent has one of the small openings for cords, etc.

I think my tent was a too vented at the top but it still did well even though there was no shade. Bring some extra fans to circulate the cool air. I am contemplating trying it at the Fort sometime so we can get the golf cart down there without taking two tow vehicles.
