Renting a car and staying at POFQ

Hi all, we are staying at POFQ for 10 days in July, it's our first visit and have so far planned to take the ME from the airport and use the Disney transport once there.

I am beginning to wonder whether we should rent a car instead as we are not often in the States and don't have such pleasantries as IHOP, Chilis and other restaurants over here, not to mention malls etc. and also it would allow us to go and have a good look around the local area.

Having said all that, this is suppose to be a holiday for the children (DD's 7 & 5) so more princesses and fun and less shopping would certainly be their preference and it's not worth renting a car if it is just going to parked up all day.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

We always rent a car when we go to WDW. I prefer it that way :) I can usually find a good deal, and did this year also. I like the convenience of it and not having to wait or for other means of transportation. If we want to go off property, we go. I want to stay til the last possible minute and not have to go to the airport any earlier than necessary. Just my opinion. :sunny:

We have also gotten spoiled by renting a car. You can go offsite to lots of other fun, non-Disney attractions (I know, bite my tongue). And the other thing to think about is that you don't have only rent a car for the entire time you're there. Return it during your stay if you want to. I think there are a couple return sites closer to WDW but you'd have to ask the rental companies.

Have a great trip!

This upcoming June will be the first time NOT renting a car for us. I was just sick of it sitting in parking lot. We used it one time; because we were late for dinner with Cindy and that was it. Speaking for my family, we NEVER EVER go off site. JMO.

We have always rented a car. We have only ridden on the bus twice. Once to get back to the hotel from AKL to POFQ and back found the ride a little long and the second time getting back to POFQ from Pleasure Island. We really like having the car rather than depending on the bus system. There's much more freedom but then again we always spend a second week driving around to other locations. :car:

We just came back last week from POFQ and we rented a car. We usually do. It is a good idea for all of the reasons mentioned above. You are not tied to disney transportation. We drove to all of the parks with no problem (FYI - your parking fee for the parks is free because you are a resort guest).

Parking is conveniently close to the resort, too.

BTW - there is a good Chilis in Lake Buena Vista perhaps a 1/2 mile past the Crossroads plaza.

We will stay in POFQ too. I just booked a car from National. So happy that I can pick it up at Disney (Car Care Center) and drop it off at MCO - same price :-)

I always wondered where people from the islands vacationed :sunny: . We will be staying at POFQ in June and have decided to use the Disney transportation. I hope it all goes well. We are, however, thinking of towncar service to and from airport. I just don't think beginning and ending our vacation in yet more lines would be very good.
