I am a new renter and have a quesiton. What prevents the owner/member from cancelling a reservation and using the points for their own benefit after a renter has made payment? I would confirm the reservation with member services but now sure how a renter is protected from this happening. That being said, every review for this process has been stellar but would give me piece of mind know what could happen. Thanks.

Nothing could stop the member from cancelling a reservations and using the points for another reason. Except integrity. The person renting the reservation has no protection from Disney or other means, other than the integrity of the owner. You'd have to take the owner to court to recover your money. Unless you defaulted on the terms of the agreement by failing to make additional payments on time or some other reason.

This is an agreement between you and the owner of the points. The owner could decide to sell their contract after making an agreement with you. All pending reservations are cancelled when a contract is resold.

This said, owners also have to have assurances from the person renting their reservation that the owner will also be paid timely and that the person renting the DVC reservation will not trash the villa, check out late and leave the member with extra costs, etc.
