Rental car

Sorry about the above. I'll try this again. I just wanted to get some feedback / experiences on renting a car at MCO, returning it[either back at MCO or near the port] then re-renting again after the cruise [since we will be going back for more after our 4 day cruise]. I found on another site that Avis was the best for this. Does anyone have an opinion or some experiences they can share. In advance Thank you.

I have done this with Avis twice so far and we will be doing this again for our cruise in September. It works great and is cheaper then DCL transportation. The Avis van is always right there to bring you back to get your rental car. I highly recommend it!! :)

You could do this with Avis, Hertz, or National, but Avis is by far the most convenient of the three. Plenty of folks on this board have done what you described with Avis and have been quite pleased with how well it worked out.

I have some info about this at my web site...

I'm committed to renting from Avis in MCO, dropping at port, and then vice versa on the return. Are there any delays waiting for or getting on the shuttle bus at either end? I saw a couple of posts that suggested sometimes you had to wait for a shuttle or two. If so, how long? Also, when arriving, can you drop luggage and then return the car and catch the shuttle with only your carry-ons? That's what I was hoping to do.

Thanks all for the info. BTW, Dave... your website is where I got the idea from, and that Avis, is the way to go...THANX. But I have another question. Does Disney transport my luggage [from hotel to port] for me, or do I need to lug it with me. There are 7 of us going and the largest vehicle I was able to get was a mini-van. If not, can I purchase this option from Disney.

Thanx,
Brian

It was mentioned that you could rent at MCO and return at the port with Avis, Hertz or National.

Actually, you can also do this with Budget. We've rented at MCO and dropped the car off at the Budget office near the port at 8401 Astronaut Blvd. They provide a complimentary shuttle over to the port....about a 5 minute ride.

We're doing this again in September.

No, if you haven't purchased Disney transfers, you'll need to bring your luggage yourself.

I'd dropped Budget from my survey because the last two times I'd compared rates, Budget's rates were 25-30% higher than the other three companies... and higher than a straight MCO-MCO rental... leading me to believe they inflate their rates to compensate for the one-way rental. I'd also heard anecdotal reports that their Cape Canaveral location is chronically understaffed on cruise days and they sometimes rent cars that haven't been cleaned. If you got a competitive rate for your rental and you were happy with the service you received last time you used them, then that's terrific!

Dave,

We had no problem last October with our rental which we picked up at the Budget office at the port. We didn't notice any problem with their staffing, i.e., no waits at the counter, etc., and the shuttle was prompt.

As far as pricing, aside from any corporate discount, I know BJ's and Costco both offer discount coupons which may make Budget's price more competetive.
