RENDEZVOUS AT THE FORT - The Fort Wilderness DISMeet Trip Report October 2020

Arc,

Add Gooey Butter Cake to the list of what I'm bringing for the pot luck. Toasted Ravs are good. Gooey Butter Cake has been described by non-St Louisans as Gooey Crack Cake because it is that good.

On vacation as of 11am today, hitched up and ready to roll. Just need to disconnect electric, place cord in camper and head south. See you all in a couple of days. :drive::dogdance::jumping1:

Ready for the Dismeet !!!:grouphug:

Has anyone in our group at the Fort hooked up to the Fort cable tv and can report on the availability of ESPN channels and local channels? And picture quality? Trying to decide on a college football watching solution.

Jim's got the satellite solution but I am curious about the house service.

And glad the site works for you, Jim, size-wise and satellite-wise.

Signal was iffy. There were complaints from others in the 1100 loop when we were there in September.

Mmmm. Okay. Non-satellite options include casting to the tv from my chromebook via Disney WIFI or my phone hotspot.

Got a bunch of stuff in the car already for the departure tomorrow morning so I'll leave the dish/box and cable/stream it if need be.

I pace around during college football anyway so it's not like I'm staring at the screen all the time.

Waiting for morning. Headed to Lake Louisa to layover at $26 per night before heading over to the Fort early Saturday morning. If my site is not ready (and I expect it not to be), who knows where I might end up. :rolleyes1

(And don't assume 1100) ......

ED

PS - Delta has reversed back east a little and appears to come ashore between Lake Charles and Lafayette. They raise a lot of frog legs through there ......

Did we need to request 1100 individually or should they already have that with the group reservation?

No. Things are working out so far. Our group is in 1100. Let’s see what happens.

PS - and I may kill time elsewhere in the Fort until my site in 1100 is finally ready.

Ed do you know your site? I can confirm on Thursday morning loops were 70% full. Yes I counted while running. It may all change by Saturday, am expecting it will. Checking now on ESPN. Definitely have regular ESPN and picture Is fine. Trying to check out other ESPN channels. Right now all we get is ESPN. I am not getting all the sister channels.

I think I’m supposed to be on 1124. It’s the last interior site on the left as you’re headed out of the loop.

We are mostly packed up. Will be leaving here around 3P tomorrow and staying at a hotel in Orlando tomorrow night. Making our Walmart run first thing Saturday morning then picking up the camper from my in-laws house. We should be to the Fort around 10A.

Soooooooo excited!!!

Ed,

I plugged in the park cable to see the local news. The picture is very good on my site. I did look at the ESPN channels yet. We are up at the Outpost waiting for Ian and Blake to arrive.

Packed up and ready to go. Kids have 9 weeks tests tomorrow. Oldest DD has latest test that finishes around 11:20, so hopefully on road by 12. That will be 1pm Disney time. Average about 10 hour trip to Lake Louisa, so no getting there until around 11.

I called the park about my late arrival. They told me to call back tomorrow around 7pm. Not sure but didn't get clear answer if this would be okay. If not, then I'll likely find something further north or just sit in Ocala at rest stop. Either way, we coming.

Lake Louisa office is open until 7. Give a call in the afternoon and they will give you a gate code. No big deal. We drove back over from the Fort last night around 10and it all works fine.

Glad to hear everyone is arriving safely. Safe travels to those in transit. Today was supposed to be the day we flew out but instead Tom and I have dentist appointments. Talk about insult to injury! Please post lots of updates and pictures. We will be celebrating Thanksgiving here with family on Monday.

@Teamubr nice spot for the satellite dish. Saw it when I was running. @Bishoparc looks like your site will be vacant today. I saw them breaking down camp. @tiggerdad you site is still occupied.

Someone actually pulled in across from us. It was a medium size trailer so able to maneuver with our car there.

Got my run in. Bert is getting stuff out to make breakfast. No work today. Just going to hang out. Maybe pool, who knows and who cares.
