religion

i saw this thing on the news last night: there's going to be a muslim school built and now people are opposing it and trying to get them to sell the land and not build the school.
even though im not muslim, i think they should be allowed to build the school. we have christian schools and catholic schools so why cant there be a muslim school? its really not fair

I was about to go into a huge rant, but I realized your location says Australia, so what I think doesn't exactly apply to where you live. :upsidedow

However, I'm not sure about the prejudice on your side of the world, but around here, I know for a fact that after 9/11, Muslim groups and Muslim Americans were targeted throughout the U.S., and there was a lot of prejudice towards them. I just don't know how much that's changed since '02, or throughout the world.

Thank you!

Anyways, I honestly don't care what my wedding is like, I just want my marriage to be fantastic.

Marriage is a very significant step in life and is not 'overrated'. Weddings might be, but marriage is not.

But I mean, also, people can be completely committed to one another, without ever having been legally married. Being legally married makes some things easier, but is not necessary.

Oh great, I remember how bad our last 'Religion' thread was...
O_O

i think there is quite a bit of prejudice towards muslims here too, probly not as much as in america though.

theres also prejudice against muslims here in the UK, which annoys me because some people did things and people feel the need to target a group they may or may not have even been a part of. The media doesn't help things either...

::yes::

A few months after 9/11, a Native American was shot in my town because somebody thought he was middle eastern.

It's sad that muslims and middle easterners are being targeted for no good reason, but it's even sadder that ignorant rascists have grouped Indians, Native Americans and anyone with *brown* skin with them.

There's NOTHING wrong with muslims. There's something wrong with radical muslims. They are not one in the same.

I totally agree with you, but marriage offers a lot more than just love commitment. It offers things like life insurance, power of attorney, financial support in a seperation, etc etc. Marriage makes a relationship, in all aspects, more stable, IMO.

It seems whenever someone belongs to a certain culture thats the persons fault, like when virginia tech happened...alot of people had a propblem with people from Korea because of that persons background...then its not a new thing to blame a whole culture, I seems in the past when something went wrong or someting bad happened it was because of "black people" which I think is disgusting to say anything is down to a culture or because of their race.

Then its not always just race, last year people were attacked and had salt thrown in their face in Glasonbury (I think it was) by a christian youth group because they were Pagan...which I think is disgusting.

Yup, I agree. And people can be married and have no love.
