Has anyone been to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware? Is it nice? What can a family with 2 kids(5 & 10) do there? Any advice would be much appreciated, like places to eat, etc...

We will be heading there this Thursday. My moms boyfriend just bought a summer house there and invited all of us to come stay for the weekend(my family and my sisters). We have never been and usually go to Cape May, NJ when we want to go to a beach destination not too far away.(we absolutely LOVE Cape May) I am just worried Rehoboth will be too much like Wildwood, NJ(no offense to anyone it is just not our kind of place).

Rehobeth is nice. It's right past Ocean City Maryland, which is where a lot of the action is. We stayed a little further North in Bethany beach, which was nice- the beaches weren't too crowded, but we could drive down to O.C. to do all the crazy touristy stuff.

If you enjoy outlet shopping, Rehoboth Beach is the place for you. That's about all there is to do in Rehoboth other than go to the beach or go out to eat. The amusement parks and vast array of mini golf, boardwalk, and Sunsations tourist traps are down in Ocean City, MD, which isn't that far of a drive from Rehoboth.

Desnik, it can get kinda of crowded on the beach get there early since you are going on a holiday weekend (Labor Day). But there is other beaches right around the same area like Lewes, Cape Henlopen, Indian River Inlet if you want choices. I like Rehoboth because of the boardwalk and all the shops, yes there alot of outlets out on Highway Route 1 but the more quaint stores are in Rehoboth. I grew up going to this beach so I like it :)

Have Fun

Rehobeth is a nice beach. It is just north of OC MD, when you go there you simply MUST go to Nicolas pizza and order a Nikaboli!!!! YUMMY. In the summer they often have concerts at the bandshell. Are you in walking distance to the beach/boardwalk? If not then there is a bus system you can use called park n ride, I highly recommend using it as traffic is very congested since it is a small beach town. They have a small section with amusements, there is a really nice kite shop just north of the center entrance to the boardwalk. Enjoy, it is a fun little town. You are also not far from outlet shopping located inbetweetn Rehobeth beach and Lewes. If you need any other infor feel free to ask.

My kids love Tower Beach, it's right down the road. There is an admission charge but it's more quiet and relaxing for us.

Thanks for all the great info everyone!
Anyone know anything about the place Jungle Jim's?

Also, from reading on other sites, it seems Bethany Beach is more family oriented and less crowded than Rehoboth beach. Should we head to Bethany Beach if we want to spend a day at the beach?

I live about 35 miles from Rehoboth Beach, love the place, I'm sure you will have a wonderful family vacation. I know my grandchildren love Jungle Jim's but I'm afraid I don't know anything about it. I can give them a call when they come home from school this afternoon and see if they will articulate specifics about it. Be sure to have some of Dollie's popcorn and salt water taffy. The reason we enjoy running down there for the day is it is not as commercialized as Ocean City. It is a laid back environment. We enjoy strolling on the boardwalk sitting and people watching while enjoying some Boardwalk Fries.

Is the bottom of the ocean still rocky? Last year we went to Rehobeth and it was so rocky and full of shells you couldn't even enjoy the water. That's what prevented us from going back. We love the area though.

Just got back from Rehoboth on Saturday. We go every year. The beach is awesome. It shouldn't be overly crowded because I believe a lot of the schools have started up already. Junle Jims is not all that great, I think there are only a couple of slides. There is another water park on route one that also has bumper boats and some other activities. Don't forget to visit the Disney catalog outlet. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for all the great info everyone!

no way, I would stay at RB, I think it is plenty family oriented. Have fun.

Thank you all so much for the great info! I am getting excited now!

I just checked the weather and it's not looking too good. Any advice on what to do on rainy days?

Jungle Jim's a a water park with mini golf. Lots of fun.

Bethany is nice also for a quite beach dinner. Small boardwalk (no rides or amusements like Rehoboth).

You must have come after a bad storm. Sometimes the weather will churn up the rocks.

Outlet shopping or go for a drive. Everything is close.

We live in northern Delaware, but have a vacation home just outside of Rehoboth. You mentioned you like Cape May a lot. Why don't you take the Ferry from Cape May to Lewes? It's a nice trip and one town away from Rehoboth.

I would love to take the ferry over to Cape May. I don't think my mom will be too thrilled with that idea though. She has been dying for us to go to Rehoboth for 2 years now and since her boyfriend finally bought a house there she is expecting her kids to come and spend some time with them. They want to show us around because they just love it so much. Also they want us to kind of get to know the area because since it is a summer house we can basically use it whenever we want. So if we like it DH and I with our kids can get the whole house to ourselves for a few weeks next summer. Then we would definitely hop on the ferry to visit Cape May.

I think what the previous poster meant was to travel to Rehoboth via the ferry. Lewes isn't far from Rehoboth, it would be a nice trip.

Shop at the outlets! Specifically, the Disney outlet.

:teeth:

I have a good friend that works there.

There are plenty of things to do in Rehoboth Beach. We own a condo on the northern end of the boardwalk and spend a lot of time down there through out the year.
Your younger child may like doing some of the rides in Funland at the south end of the boardwalk. My two kids (7 and 5) love going there and the tickets aren't very expensive at all.
Browse About Books on Rehoboth Ave is great place to find a book to enjoy on the beach. The also have a little Thomas the train set in the store that keeps my youngest occupied while my wife and I take turns looking for a book.
We also enjoy going into the Christmas Store that is on Rehoboth Ave.
There is also a place on Baltimore Ave that rents these little three wheeled cars by the hour. We did them one time and had a blast cruising around town.
For dinners we like going to Claws on Rehoboth Ave for seafood and Cafe Sole on Baltimore Ave. For a breakfast treat we gets some pasteries from Lingo's Market.

Enjoy your time there and we may see you in one of or favorite places this weekend. We'll be there!!

I guess I misunderstood the previous poster about the Cape May ferry. That sounds like a great idea to take the ferry from Cape May to Lewes and then just drive the short distance to Rehoboth. I have to go check how late the ferry runs.

Anyone familiar with the development Sawgrass? I believe that is the name of where he lives in Rehoboth. Just wondering how long a ride it is to Lewes?

Sawgrass is on the bay side of Rehoboth. To get to the boardwalk you would have to drive and find a place to park. Good places to park are on the northern end behind the Henlopen Hotel.
The drive would not be to far from Lewes. The biggest problem would be traffic on the holiday weekend.
The ferry ride is approximately 70 minutes and for the life of me I can't remember the price for a car.

Oh, one other thing we did last year that was a lot of fun was a Pirate Cruise. We took it out of Lewes. It was a lot of fun.
