I've never visited in August. The kids are getting older now so it's much more difficult to do our week after Thanksgiving visit and pull them out of school. We're going August 14th through the 21st this year. How bad would you say the crowds are? BTW, we're not real commando people. We know what we like, go to see it, and hang out at resorts and the pool the rest of the time.

:flower: What a great shot of your family! We are going aug 12-19th and I LOVE IT in August. This is our second august trip. Remember that most of the southern half of the us is back in school the first or second week of august so there are no crowds :cheer2: We walk on to most of the attractions and have no problem with reservations or anything. It's hot but so what It's hot everywhere in AUgust. Have a blast!!! :sunny:

We usually go in August and while it is crowded, it is definitely managable. We also noticed the later it gets in the month the less the crowds are because the kids are going back to school.

I just wanted to say that your family is georgeous....We will be there at the same time.August 12-20th

You'll have a wonderful time! The humidity will be high.. but who cares? You'll be at Disney!! :goodvibes :wizard:

We were there last year from August 9-13. The weekday crowds weren't bad at all since Florida schools were back in session. It's a great time to go if you can tolerate the heat! :mickeybar

As the above posters said, during the week, the crowds are manageable. It is rare that you have to wait more than 30-45 minuets for an attraction during the week. On the weekends, the waits should be no longer than 60 mins for most major attractions.

My trip is going to fall into that timeframe too. We've been everytime of year but summer. However, this year we're going to attempt to brave the heat and go 8/12-8/20. We went at the end of September in 2004 and it was in the low 90's everyday but one. It was very humid too, so I imagine it can't be too much worse.

Another August fan here. I teach, so summer is my only option. We will be there Aug 13-20 this year. Crowds are not too bad, fastpass when needed and get there are park opening. I also like to plan late lunches in order to get out of the heat in the afternoon. Have fun!

We've been down for that time frame twice now! In '03 it was a little crowded but that was most likely due to the great deals that Disney had. But the weather was pretty decent...hot and humid, but bearable. When we were there last August, it was the exact same time as H. Charley. So, the humidity was brutal, due to the storm. The crowds weren't bad at all. Then about 3 days into our trip the locals starting hitting the parks since schools were closed due to the hurricanes. But, it was still less crowded than usual. We would look at mid-August again in the future.

Since you know what youlike to do, you should be fine. That plan worked for us over the huge Thanksgiving week-end. Do what you need to do, and then just relax. Go with the flow as they say. And drink lots of water, eat one table service meal a day, and swim in your pool mid-day to get out of the heat. That should do it. Have a great trip.

This August will be our first summertime WDW vacation and we'll be there for 14nights!

We go every summer, typically in August (not this year though). Towards the middle and especially the end of the month the crowds die down considerably. We are no longer commando--we were about 20 trips ago ;) but I think especially in the summer heat, the afternoon breaks are imperative. Have fun!

We went last year in August and didn't find it that bad. We went for ten days but didn't leave until the 16th. I found the first day was real crowded but then the crowd or lines weren't that bad. I think the kids from Florida went back to school after the 16th.

We are also going this year the exact dates as you guys. I'm hoping going the 14th dosen't make a big difference. I'm staying positive.

Good Luck.

By the way - Great shot of the family.

Lovely family photo!!!

We too are getting to the point that our kids are getting too old to be pulled out of school for Disney. :sad2: This October will be our last "pull out of school trip" & are now planning to visit WDW next August since we hear the crowds are managable. Have fun you'll be at Disney! :cheer2:

Gorgeous Family Photo!

We were down the 3rd & 4th week in Aug. 2001. The crowds the 3rd week were manageable the 3rd week & almost non-existant the 4th week. What worked especially well for us was getting to the Parks early, heading out at 1:00 or so for lunch, swimming, napping & then going back late. We did a couple late E-nights & slept in the next day. Getting to the Park around 1-2pm also seemed to work well, as alot of folks were back at their resorts cooling off.

We are going the 4th week this Aug. based on our past experience.

Thank you all for your compliments and comments.
I hope to see some of you there. I should have bought the lime green crocs...then you'd see me in an instant. When I tried them on, I asked my 9 year old what she'd think of me walking around WDW with them on and she said "I'd be thinking "Where's the rest of your costume?"" :rotfl: So, I bought some army green ones. Maybe you'll see me walking around there and if you do, please say hi. For years my husband has thought that I'm a "Dissy" which is like a "Trekkie". He thinks I'm nuts going up to people who are wearing lime-green. You guys are great. Thanks again for taking time to post to my question. :disrocks:

Hi Siouxi! We'll be at the Boardwalk villas OR the Beach club villas (if waitlist comes through), arriving the same day you are. We also live in IL. It would be funny if we were flying the same airline etc LOL. Anyway. I am also excited about going this time of year. I work for a school so at least for this year it sounded great to go right before I go back to work, daughter goes back to college (locally) and the time and points were right to finish my mom's DVC points at a studio! Hoping for great weather and manageable crowds. Our daughter's friend has never been before and I want to make it as magical as possible!<G>

Seems like alot of us will be there during the same week. We'll be at SSR from the 13-20th. Can't wait. Have itinerary and AR's made, so it seems alot closer now.

HI, Siouxi31! Hope you enjoy your trip. We'll be down around the same time.

We'll be at WL from 8/12-8/20. It'll just be my DS (5) and me.

We're from near you also. We live in Batavia and I work in Naperville.
Small world. :flower:
