Al Lutz of MiceAge recently gave a heads up about the unusually large amount of refurbs this fall and that was discussed in this link:

Al Lutz Mega-Update - DCA Magic Mornings?, Lots of Refurbs, PFF Moving, Tiered Prices

The most recent MousePlanet DLR Park Update is listing the following:

Updated ride closure schedule for fall

Once the D23 Expo is over and the last runners have crossed the finish line of the Disneyland Half Marathon, the Resort will head into the fall refurbishment season. The majority of closures begin on September 6, with the biggest project—a nine-week refurbishment of Pirates of the Caribbean—lasting until just before Thanksgiving.

Disneyland

  • Matterhorn Bobsleds – closed July 11 to September 1 for refurbishment.
  • Haunted Mansion – closed August 29 to September 15 for installation of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay.
  • Indiana Jones Adventure – closed September 6 & 7 for refurbishment.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean – closed September 7 to November 23 for refurbishment.
  • Blue Bayou – closed September 7 to November 23 for refurbishment.
  • Space Mountain – closed September 9–15 for installation of the Ghost Galaxy overlay.
  • Mark Twain – closed September 26–28 for deck oiling.
Disney California Adventure

  • California Screamin' – closed September 6 to October for refurbishment.
The period from September 6–15 will be especially impacted by closures, with the Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Pirates of the Caribbean, Blue Bayou, Space Mountain and California Screamin' all closed for some or all of that period.

We do not have a trip scheduled for that time, but YIKES! That makes a lot of attractions that will be down - major attractions.

It's a little surprising to me that they will have Matterhorn closed over D23 when so many first time Disneyland visitors will be making their way to Anaheim. :confused3

Sorry, guys. Pirates is our fault. The ride and restaurant are never open when we go! I should stop telling Disney my dates! :lmao: ;)

You should at least warn us next time! :rotfl2:

We're waiting until after the 16th to go, but seeing the confirmation of another site (MP) this morning was sad. Almost no hope left to see POTC, but lots of hope for a fun trip!

We are going the end of September when Screaming and POTC will be closed. I told my 10 year old last night and he is SO bummed about Screaming. And I just talked my 4 year old into how great POTC is and got him to agree to try the ride again this trip. (Last year he was scared on it and didnt want to go again). Oh well thats Ok. You got to expect closures during September. No matter what we will have a great time! :thumbsup2

Thankfully we'll be there early enough to miss most of them. Too bad two classics will be down though, Matterhorn and Haunted Mansion. At least there's two NEW rides to make up for it! Glad we're not going any later though. Thanks for the update HG.

My trip is Sept. 3rd. to Sept 13th. with 4 days at DL. I'm planning on hitting the stuff that's closing on Sept. 4th. I think HM is the only thing closed my entire trip.

oh this sucks... I am taking family that has never been before and we figured not to meny rides would be down at the end of Sept. Pirates and screaming are going to be missed the most. :(

If you break this list down, it's not really a giant as it looks.

Matterhorn Bobsleds – 7/11 - 9/1: major refurb.
Haunted Mansion – 8/29 - 9/15: Annual closure, no surprise here, HMH overlay
Indiana Jones Adventure – 9/6 & 9/7 for refurb.: 2 days, mid-week, post Labor Day
Pirates of the Caribbean – 9/7 - 11/23 major refurb., has to be done sometime. Post-summer, pre-holidays, when else would you pick?
Blue Bayou – closed 9/7 - 11/23 for refurb., closes when PotC closes, a majority of park visitors not affected considering the percentage that eat at BB.
Space Mountain – 9/9 – 9/15: Annual closure, no surprise here, SMGG overlay, only hits one weekend, post Labor Day
Mark Twain – 9/26 – 9/28, post Labor Day, mid-week, probably not a giant highlight of many people's visits (although it should be :rotfl:)

Also remember these dates are not official and could change/adjust. There are very few combination of trip dates that hit more than one closure (except the normally scheduled annual overlays).

And not many will be. Only two, three depending upon your dates.

To guess that not many rides would be down at the end of September is not paying attention to history. September is often when Disney takes down rides for refurb after heavy summer usage.

It looks like the end of September will be fairly normal in this regard - maybe a bit more than normal.

You forgot California Screamin - Sept 6 to October. Must be the after effects of the wheelchair. ;)

I will admit that anyone going Sept 9-15 could be very bummed - Screamin, POTC, SM and HM all at once - even though two closings are well known as you mention (SM and HM).

Outside of that I agree this is not that unusual.

I'm a little bummed. Trying to look on the bright side though. We'll be there from Sept. 4th-9th and then again the 14th-18th. So we'll be able to catch almost every ride before or after the refurbs.

LOL or the complete lack of any desire to ever ride Screamin' ever in my entire life.

Forgot to add in the one across the Esplanade. :goodvibes

I am trying not to be majorly bummed about POTC and BB. We went to WDW for the first time in January. We had a blast and we are now checking out DL for the first time in October. My son's favorite ride was POTC. And I was looking forward to BB. Oh well - maybe he will like Star Tours since that was in refurb in Jan. And we will save money on souvenirs since the POTC gift shop may be closed. And, I know, we are choosing to go in the off season. How is everyone else consoling themselves?

We will be there 09/10-09/16, but not as bad as it looked at first.

Matterhorn Bobsleds – back up by the time we get there.
Haunted Mansion – reopens on our departure day, but our flight isn't until 6:00 pm so we should be able to ride before leaving.
Indiana Jones Adventure – back up by the time we get there.
Pirates of the Caribbean –too bad we will miss, but life goes on.
Blue Bayou – really unaffected as we had no plans to eat there
Space Mountain –** see Haunted Mansion **
Mark Twain – 9/26 – 9/28 occurs after our trip
Screamin' - whew! now I don't have to look for reasons not to ride. Now if only something could be done about Mickey's Wheel Of Terror :rotfl:

Still glad to be going to Disneyland!

We are so bummed about POTC!! It's a favorite for my boys at WDW and the DL one is so much better! I just wish they could experience it. I am so suprised they are doing a refurb for it now, especially coming off of a summer of a new pirates movie. It just makes little boys more pumped to ride it. I am hoping by chance that maybe a soft opening will happen. We are there Oct. 21-24.
