RefurbLand at DLR Fall 2011...Especially Sept 6-15

I'm going the last weekend in September, so I think my only major letdown is that POTC is closed. I'm impartial to Screamin', I don't think I'd ride that unless the person/people I'm with want to. Even though POTC is close, I'm still really excited because I've never been during Halloween season!

Scheduling fail.... we booked our trip months ago. For September 6th-12th. NOOOOOOOO!:sad2:
I wish you would have checked with us before choosing those dates as we could have easily told you to expect something along the lines of what has happened. For example, see "What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889 .

On the other hand crowds will be pretty low and you should be able to do lots of other fun stuff while there.

We were planning on going in the parks Oct 24-25 (as my 2nd ticker says), and I am super bummed about BB & POTC. Since both will be closed on our alternate dates (last Mon & Tues in Sept), we now just need to decide which will have lower crowds. Wanna take a best guess?

Wow! That's a lot closed at one time!
Glad I don't have any plans for a September trip. Looks like the only attraction I will miss is Matterhorn in August.

Thanks for the info :)

It really isn't. Unless you are going ONLY 9/6 and 9/7, everything is somewhat spread out.

We're there Sept 17-24. Quite bummed about POTC and Screamin, but so goes the trade-off of off-season travel. Happy that we get to see the overlays on HM and SM though!

I was looking forward to riding the Matterhorn. I guess not anymore.

Yes, there are a number of significant attractions that will be closed at different times throughout this time period, but there is still plenty of magic, especially for first timers!

While some closures may be disappointing, there is still so much to do and enjoy that as long as the focus remains on what you are doing instead of what you are not able to do, then everyone will have a most excellent time!

BUMMER!!! We're going 9/11 - 9/16 with the 16th being my DS's birthday! We were planning on Blue Bayou for lunch!pirate: We figured we'd might miss some of HM, but Screamin'? AND Space Mountain? And POTC???? Last year when we went in September Space Mountain was down quite a bit....but POTC? DS is going to be so sad!!

Looks like we might have to schedule another trip sooner rather than later! What's usually down in January/February?

The one question I have for planning purposes is, what do you expect the lines to be like for the rides just prior to closing? Right now, my first day is Sept 4th. and I need to make sure to hit Screamin' and POTC before they close for extended refurb. Will the lines be significantly longer than normal for those rides?

I probably won't hit the park until afternoon. I'm running the Half marathon in the morning and plan on a shower and short nap before returning to the parks and hopefully staying through fireworks/fantasmic.

We'll be there the first week of October & are extremely sad that POTC will be closed (closed during the Halloween festivities.....say it ain't so!!). The one time you can dress like a pirate & ride pirates......lol I have twin 4 yr olds that are autistic & one of them sings the Yo Ho song all the time...... super disappointed she won't get to ride it this trip!!

WOW. That's alot of main attractions being refurbed at one time.

The HM will be open on your last day, possibly sooner as it is notorious for opening a day or so earlier than scheduled when the HMH layover is done.

Space Mountain is the same as HM, so you should get a chance to experience it too, if you want, in it's SMGG form.

So the only thing you will miss for sure is PotC (and the Blue Bayou). You didn't mention how old your son is, but I would be willing to bet he would enjoy a quick lunch followed by extra play time on Pirate's Lair to get in that birthday pirate theme as much as a sort-of adultish lunch at the Blue Bayou.

Hope this helps put it in a much better perspective,

If you actually break it down by date, there's not really a lot closed all at the same time. (See my post a few up from here.) It's just a lot of things happening over various dates.

Wow, bummer.

Just E-mailed Disney Customer Relations for a confirmation. If this is true we will be cancelling our trip. We were planning on celebrating our 10th Anniversary at Blue Bayou. If it is indeed true we will be going on a cruise. We both agree there is no way we are wasting our time when the ride we were most looking forward to is closed and on top of that so many others.

Really, really lame move Disney if this is true. Do not stack rehab closures on top of your overlay closures. :sad2:

Princess Cruises here we come. This is not us throwing a tantrum just us being realistic and realizing it would diminish our trip to lose so many great rides. We were cool with the overlay closures but this is ridiculous. I hope it's not true. It's too late to change vacation dates now. It would be nice if Disney let us know a little earlier.

He will be 4 but he's a POTC veteran!! All in all being there is still awesome, so we'll do our best not to be let down!

This happens evey year though. Often it is Matterhorn which goes down in September.

I can see how you would be really disappointed. However, that Disney has refurbs at the same time as overlays actually happens more often than not.

I always suggest that anyone who has schedule flexibility but is an infrequent visitor or has things they just cannot miss to look more to high season visits.
