RefurbLand at DLR Fall 2011...Especially Sept 6-15

This happens evey year though. Often it is Matterhorn which goes down in September.

I can see how you would be really disappointed. However, that Disney has refurbs at the same time as overlays actually happens more often than not.

I always suggest that anyone who has schedule flexibility but is an infrequent visitor or has things they just cannot miss to look more to high season visits.

Thanks Hydro. It's not that we can't go some other time. We will. It's just this trip was special since it was our anniversary. Blue Bayou has always been a really special place to me. I was hoping we would have a nice romantic dinner on the night of our tenth. Since we can't (or maybe can't) we will go with plan B and book an Alaska Cruise. Maybe this works out for the best because we can just hold off for Cars Land.

I don't know if they WILL, but I WISH Disney would put out some extra pirate-themed entertainment during the closure, for all the folks who will be missing the pirates. I imagine for some youngsters, a meet-and-greet could ease the pain somewhat... (Do you hear me, Disney? :flower3: )

So does that mean that Screamin will open back up at the begining of October or the end?

I couldn't find the Fantasmic thread but I was wondering if the closures will have an impact on Fantasmic's schedule. I will be there on September 24, 25, and 26 (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and I'm not too familiar with the show schedule during Fall.

We were originally planning to go from Sept 11-14, and only yesterday saw how many closures there'll be. We're going to change our plans to Sept 12-16 to at least get onto some of the rides that will be closed that week. So many refurbs! Last year, it didn't feel like there were so many. Or maybe I'm just grumbling over the loss of PoTC and BB too much. Does anyone think there are going to be any fall discounts or should I just start booking now?

Our current plan is to stay at the Anaheim Quality Inn and Suites near HOJO, since we've stayed there the last 3 times we went to Disney and it's super cheap. Can anyone find better rates than $57 per night that's walking distance? We'd love to try a new hotel if possible. We're visiting Universal Studios on Tues, Sept 13, Knott's on Wed, DCA on Thurs, and Disneyland on Fri, with Saturday reserved for driving home and around LA. Any recommendations to changes in plans? Wish there weren't so many refurbs...

Looks like the only thing I'll be missing is HM. Bummer but I already figured that ages ago because of the overlay and Halloween Time starting so early. Glad I'll just barely be scrapping by on some of the others though not that it would make me any less excited to go.

We'll be missing Space Mountain and POTC, our two favorite rides. We booked our hotel through Priceline so there's no cancelling now.

OMG, what is it about Screamin' that I have a complete block on it!!??!?! :rotfl:

Yeah, that's it! I knew that part so I purposefully didn't mention Screamin', that's it! ;)

:upsidedow,
Dreams

We (me and Disney Dreams) don't need no stinkin' Screamin' :rotfl:

Uhhh, yes!

In other words this thread is hot off the press and no one really knows. It is entirely possible Screamin will not go down at all. :headache:

As the OP of this thread, and if it all turns out like the OP reports, your post makes me very happy! ::yes:: Why? Because my post helped you have a better trip. :)

A sincere wish for good luck!

You help make better trips for so many of us! Thank you. :yay:

Dang it, Pirates and Screamer will be down while I am down there the 26-30

I wish you would have checked with us before choosing those dates as we could have easily told you to expect something along the lines of what has happened. For example, see "What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889 .

On the other hand crowds will be pretty low and you should be able to do lots of other fun stuff while there.

No worries :thumbsup2 this is the 4th year in a row we've gone in September. My best friend and I always go that time of year, though usually it's the 12th-19th. Usually it's just Haunted Mansion and Small World that are closed, but eh... what can you do. Still going to be magical!

The past couple years the SMGG overlay only took 4-5 days. So the longer rumored closure is either incorrect or because Disney is doing something more this year.

Not seeing the Indiana Jones refurb showing up for Sept. 6th-7th on Disney as proposed either???

I noticed that too - lets hope that was just a rumor. I have seen several sites showing Space closing only for 9/12-9/15 so fingers crossed on that one too!!
