Refurb at Contemporary?

Haven't, but wouldn't be surprised if Disney is leaning into Contemporary for its 50th year anniversary celebration since it's the original resort.

I called also because we were originally in a CR Tower Lake View room May9-18. Then when the discounts came out they all disappeared and when I called to get the dscount I had to move to the Grand Flo to get a non DVC room because the day the discounts came out there was absolutely nothing showing at the Contemporary at all. Then the very next day availibility became open for CR Garden Wing Garden View and its been available ever since for my dates. So i called again and changed to that because we have been at the GF many times and wanted to try something new. I was concerned about the impact of the possible refurb(not that it would bother us in garden wing, but that they might close restaurants) so i called and was told that there is a refurb starting in April of the TPV rooms then starting in May the LV rooms, that BLT and Garden wing arent involved and restaurants and shops would still be open.
Take it for what its worth but I totally believe it, because a tiny bit of online booking research shows me TPV and LV tower rooms both available to book in March, only LV tower rooms available to book in April and thru the very beginning of May and nothing for my dates in the Tower at all.

My thoughts exactly. I think you're right. No reason to think otherwise. Just a bummer for those of us impacted.

A bummer indeed! I would hate having booked it and then being told I had to move. You really anticipate a particular room and/or resort and cant but help feeling a little deflated when the change cones.

Well, the rumor of The Wave being an Incredibles themed steakhouse hasn't come to fruition; I am thankful they didn't turn this wonderful restaurant into an IP event.

Disney Tourist Blog: "
Contemporary Resort – Although not yet officially announced by Walt Disney World, we have heard from several readers with confirmed reservations at the Contemporary who received calls or emails from Disney offering to move them to Grand Floridian or Bay Lake Tower.
Cast Members have indicated that this is because Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be undergoing a refurbishment from April through September 2021. During that time, at least some dining and shopping options in the a-frame building will remain open

Everything Ive heard is this refurbishment is just for the tower rooms. Nothing else is included. Garden rooms are not being refurbished as long term plans see the garden wing going away.

It will be interesting to see if they try to significantly alter the theme or horseshoe something into the towers. I hope they do not make a patented Disney shortsighted mistake here.

If they are going to get all experimental with the classic theme (i.e Incredibles IP), to me, it would make much more sense to do this in the Garden Wing - which could revive this lagging area. They get extremely high rates and fill in the Tower already.

I understand that The Wave restaurant there will also be experiencing an Incredibles overlay. An Incredibles steakhouse is on the way, as I also understand it.

This has a lot of potential to be special. The design ties between the A-Frame structure of the building, the styling of the monorail, and the mid-century modern look of The Incredibles could go over very well. I'm looking forward!

Nothing confirmed

Nothing confirmed
Yeah that was just a rumor earlier last year, nothing has been confirmed or announced about any refurb to The Wave. I’d actually think it’s staying the same since nothing was said about it with this refurb announcement.

I love the Incredibles, but anything would beat the existing Wave decor theme of “dark room with tables.”

Just piling on -- late -- we had a theme park view in the main tower reserved for Sept. 15-22, and we were offered either a theme park view at the GF or a 1 BR villa at BLT. I'm sleep deprived (long story) and didn't have a chance to confer with my husband, so I picked the 1 BR villa at the BLT. Now I'm seriously second-guessing myself. The main tower room has been my dream since 1976 when, at the age of 9, I met a girl who showed up late to vacation bible school and said she stayed at a hotel that a train ran through. I mean, come on. Still trying to figure out how I feel about this "upgrade."

Just don't mess with the Wave lounge

I saw this when looking at prices for next year. I’m not excited if this is what the new rooms will look like.

My room I just stayed in looked super dated... but also didn't look like any pictures I recognized on the website?

Nvm.. just looked it up. Without the yellow throw pillows and the bed runner, it just looked really basic. Wild what a difference those small details make.

Just FYI, the screenshot posted above is a 2008’ish era pic of a 14th Floor/Tower Club CL room. Disney tinkered with the bookable room type options online several months ago and they didn’t put up current pics for some of those rooms. What is on the website is old/not representative of the pending refurbished rooms (or even what those rooms currently look like).
