Refund of FTP down payment? Sick hubby :(

Hello there,
We have anxiously awaited our family's first trip to WDW ever! We booked the FTP for November.... and now my husband is having some health problems that is causing me some concern over whether he will be in top form for Disney. He is having symptoms that would certainly make his trip less enjoyable to say the least... and would prevent him from going on any rides.

We are thinking we might like to cancel our trip..... Perhaps planning a different trip for early next year. We have put the $200 deposit down... (and we did do trip insurance for peace of mind even tho most people I questioned said not to).....

Does anyone know how much of the 200. down is refundable? I know the trip insurance isn't. Just wondering.... thanks for any and all information.

The entire amount is refundable until 45 days before the trip is set to begin. I am sorry to hear that your husband is having trouble and I pray that he will feel better soon so that you can plan a special trip to WDW together where all can enjoy. Best of Luck.

I would wait, unless you know for sure your hubby won't be able to go. I believe with packages you have until 45 days to cancel and get a full refund. I would check any confirmation papers you have to see they say about cancallation policy.

Isn't the point of the insurance that if you are too sick to go then your trip is refundable at any point? I'm not sure, but that was my understanding of the insurance. You should call and ask about that because then you can wait until last minute to decide.

The trip insurance coverage only kicks in AFTER the final payment is made, unfortunately.

I agree, I would wait until 46 days out to decide about cancelling. The trip insurance premium is non-refundable but you would get the rest of your deposit back as long as you cancelled outside of 45 days. Hopefully your husband will feel better and you will still be able to go.

I'm so sorry your dh isn't feeling well. My dh was very sick, last year too. He was 38. After trips to many, many dr's he found he had diabetes. He got it undercontrol and now as long as he keeps his weight down to the normal range, it's find. He also had congestive heart failure. He was in the hospital where they removed 80 #'s of fluid from his body.

Anyway, back to your question. We had to cancel a disney trip once. The full $200 was refunded with no problem.

I had booked our trip for June 2004 and paid a deposit. Well, we had some things come up and since it was so far out I cancelled with the thought I would rebook later this year. I got my full amount back in about a week.

Had someone suggested I would have delayed payment of my trip insurance until I made my large final payment (which I haven't made yet). I guess I will be "out " the trip insurance money... I wasn't really thinking clearly when I booked the tickets and put the 200$ down.

Oh well.... I will contact disney to confirm everyone's info.... I didn't want to call disney direct at first... I have had some confilicting info. about other stuff.... So I wanted to be prepared ahead of time if I need to put up a little protest.... in order to get the down payemnt back.

Looks like if I cancel before 45 days, I won't have a problem.
