The rules are printed on the mugs so that should help make people aware (at least they have been since 2004 when we were there). :sunny:

Y'know what? It IS printed on our mug from the Poly, but I did not see it until a YEAR later when I read that on the DIS! :rotfl: I looked and looked for signage about it when I was actually in Captain Cook's and could not find any. (There was a raging thread about it at the time.) Didn't even see it on the mug until well after our trip was over and had to look for it as the little print is located under the handle. Not a very obvious spot if you ask me. If I hadn't heard about it on here, like the OP I never would have known and I sure wouldn't have seen it on my mug. :lmao:

Watch what you say about Californians :teeth: I might could take offense. Kidding. I was actually born and raised in CA, moved to Maine and lived there for 6 years and I have now lived in GA for 11 years. I think everyone is strange :lmao: I found the slang ran rampant in all three states. I too talk really fast and I found that most people in Maine felt they needed a translator to understand what I was saying, :) I feel very fortuanate that I have had the chance to experience living in 3 awesome places with equally awesome people.

The storms raged into GA early this morning damaging or destroying many homes and businesses, but thankfully there were no injuries or deaths.

$12? Yikes! I have never purchased mugs but probably will this next trip in September, so I guess I am gonna pay it. ;)

Oh now come on, you mean you didn't throughly examine before buying?? 50 lashes with a wet noodle for you.:teeth: Just kidding! :p

I admit-I missed a whole Walmart being built and I drive by the site every day. I just never looked across the road to notice it.

Not sure exactly what culture shock you suffered from, but did either one of you think this might be insulting to Tennesseans and completely off topic at that.

I never understand why some people move to locations and then want to critize it, if you are not happy I am sure they will let you move back to NY. :thumbsup2

So, familiar with the term irony?? You are posting an offtopic post to tell people that they are off topic. :lmao: And have ya ever moved really far from somewhere you have lived your entire life? I have and yeah, it's a culture shock. I moved from CA to MN and while I LOVE it here and always have and you couldn't PAY me to move back, it took awhile to get used to the way people do things and the way they talk. For instance "You want to come with?" With what!!!???? I have given up on the idea of never ending a sentence with a preposition because while I am sure plenty of folks are quite educated they still say it. And now when I go back to CA, my sisters try to trick me into saying words like boat, boot and couch because they say I talk funny.

Sorry, this is OT too.......

I am not trying to start an arguement. I find your generalizations about the way Southerners speak to be insulting. As all do not speak that way, which is my point. I would never say "might could" and I refer to the mid-day meal as lunch.

As a born and bred Tennessean, thanks Sammie :)

Since we are now OT and insulting people :lmao:

Whenever we drive to florida from NJ-- everytime we go into a gas station store down south......there are so many PECAN LOGS/ROLLS in the snack section why do you people down south eat so many of them??! :rotfl2:

:confused3 just thought i would add MY few pennies.......

I don't like the pecan rolls much, but I've been known to stop at some of the interstate gift stores to get the $1.50/lb shelled pecans. Around here you can only get them in little bags packaged by Diamond and the bags are about $2.99 for 8oz.

... I've yet to find a single restaurant or fast food place that DOESN'T offer free refills. It's just the standard here. All of the fast food places have refill stations to do it yourself.

Do you return to McDonalds with that cup to refill it at a later date? I doubt it. Most restaurants offer a free refill on the single visit to the restaurant. Not on later dates.

Disney didn't put the "single trip usage" lingo on the mug until they got so many people reusing the non-reusable mug. The policy has always been use the mug on this trip, at this resort only. It has never been refillable for life. Now, some CMs may have told a guest here and there that the mug was refillable forever, but I'd bet that there was a sign somewhere stating single trip, this resort only not too far from where that CM was standing.

And the concept that Disney only pays $.01 per refill is also baloney. It doesn't matter what they pay for you to fill up that mug. They make the rules.

When we bought our first mugs, I think they cost about $8 each. Now they are up to about $12 each. Why the big increase? Anyone venture a guess?

Why the heck did you quote me before your flame? I wasn't debating the mug issue at all. There are too many of you Self-Appointed Disney Ethics Police (SADEP) around for me to bother stating my opinion one way or the other.

My comment about the $.01 was made as part of an analysis as to why I didn't think a Mug-Recycling business would be worth it to Disney.

This may very well have been....but it's not what MANY CM's were conveying to guests as they took their money for these mugs. I think many were reusing it thinking they were being totally in the right----I know we did. Never knew about this policy until a couple years after we bought the mugs. I'm sure many (including myself) would not have purchased them had we been told (in our case it was 1998) that it was only good for our 5 night stay there. I may have just bought them for my children. Back then I think they were $9 or $10 (can't recall). So we spent close to $60 for our family of 6 for less than a full weeks' stay of refills. I would not have thought it worth it had 2 CM's not stated the "lifetime" policy directly to me. So wdw either needs to train their CM's better, offer refunds, or honor the policy some guests were told at time of purchase.
Not trying to be argumentative, but if you bought something at a store and was told it had a lifetime warranty and then later found out that the sales person "lied" or was misinformed I think you might reconsider your decision to have make said purchase ? May not be the best example, but it's all I can think of right now.

If someone from NY or NJ moved to the South and didn’t experience culture shock, I’d be insulted. (I’m from the South by the way.)

I’ve read a number of posts in which “South” and “Southerners” are not capitalized….now I’m insulted!!:charac2:

Everybody needs to cool off here and I think the best thing to do is:

Grab your re-fillable mug that you bought 2 years ago at the All Star resorts then go to the Poly and re fill it at Captin's Cooks. After you guzzle down two or three cups of free soda then top it off with a good day of pool hopping at the Volcano pool. After you're done swiming, I recomend staying for the ELP and Wishes on the Poly beach, don't worry about finding a place to sit. Just grab a couple of chairs that are laying outside a persons room. :teeth:

When you're done I recomend going back to your room at All Star Movies and fire up your George Foreman grill and cook some Lipton onion soup burgers. Also plug in your crock pot and heat up that spicy chili you brought from home as well. Don't worry about the other guests that are staying on the same floor as you are, I'm sure they find the smell of home cooked food in the room just as pleasing as you do! :thumbsup2

I think I covered all of the well discussed topics here and is there any more rules that we can violate and debate that they exsist or not? :stir: Let me know so I can add those to the list.

It's Disney folks, let's lighten up and remember what we all here for. My two cents on the matter and lets also remember to laugh at the Ridiculous every now and then.

I have been reusing my Contemporary mug for years, must be because my father always lied about my age to get a child ticket! :)

In a like manner, there are just too many Self-Appointed Disney Rule Flouters (SADRF) around for me, too. Plus they try to pass off the information as a means to budget your trip.

Mabe prices were raised as a result of increased demand .... :goodvibes

I just don't see the abuse. I"m there about 4 weeks a year at all different resorts. I see the occasional exception but the overwhelming majority of folks are walking around with the lastest and greatest version of the resort mug.

I just got back from CSR and bought a mug. On our mug it does NOT state anywhere that it is for that stay only. I cannot recall if it stated that on the sign, if it did it was in fine print.

It is humorous but the Onion is a comedy/satire site. A past article reported that the United States was going to move our capital to a new location and make it world class.

Is satire. Not thinking. But, there are numerous other posts about the incredible low cost. And the article was pretty funny. Point is, no one can tell me that the soda is more than a few cents per cup at the most. Not buying a new cup? Well, if I return, I've certainly managed to spend more than $12 at Disney, haven't I? If I'm bringin the cup back, I'm here!

And yes, around here "dinner" is the meal that happens between 11am and 1pm. I really do love it in the south overall, but it's a totally different lifestyle.
Formernyer-- I agree, here where I live (SOUTHERN Rhode Island), mid-day meal is dinner. Heaven forbid you invite/get invited to dinner and expect people at night. I'm not saying everyone does it that way, but my entire life dinner has meant "lunch" time. Living here it is very busy, most people are in a rush. I love when we hit the mid-west every summer. The people are much slower in their speaking and daily life. It is a wonderful experience and we hate the rush when we get home :sad2: As far as accents, for a state only 46 by 28 miles, we have more regional slang and accents than any state could imagine! And then they STILL laugh at my accent once I pass middle PA!
Do you return to McDonalds with that cup to refill it at a later date? I doubt it. Most restaurants offer a free refill on the single visit to the restaurant. Not on later dates.
I'd never do that since it's less than a dollar for most of the gigantic soda I've gotten at Southern/mid-Western McD'S. Not $12. However, my uncle bought a coffee cup with free refills from McD's 15+ years ago, free refills forever. He still uses it on all his trips-- probably 50+ times a year. They did keep their word and he says he's never been questioned about it. :thumbsup2 Then again maybe they're dumbstruck and wondering if he came out of a time warp... :bounce:

I just got back from CSR and bought a mug. On our mug it does NOT state anywhere that it is for that stay only. I cannot recall if it stated that on the sign, if it did it was in fine print.
And so the bottom line is, do what you understand/feel is right, but understand that the rules may have changed/been different in other circumstances. Until Disney makes a new policy or way to monitor this, it's ridiculous to be critical of others who aren't doing the blatantly wrong or offensive things.

Did I mention that I never would have had a problem staying WL CL and using the pool at the BC with my cousin's family until I came here?? I thought the $300+ per night and using another property pool was OK. Especially since I wasn't at my own pool taking up space... Well, that's another thread :firefight
