I have 2 Wilderness Lodge ones that when we bought them said they "Never Expire". They're only good at Wilderness Lodge and they say the hotel name on them....never a problem

The all time kicker was the time I saw a family fill a gallon milk jug with sprite.

When we were at ASSp in Jan, I saw people filling up all sorts of containers and bottles that were not the mugs. No one said anything, I was shocked.

I don't care one way or another what people do, new resort mugs, old, etc. They were the old mugs when we went in Jan, so we'll be buying new mugs in July. I don't see a problem w/ people using the same mugs w/in a year. If Disney lets people refill gallon milk jugs and 2 liter bottles, why not a mug that they purchased a few months ago?

Never reused refillable mugs at a WDW resort - they are different looking and have date codes stamped on it (I think). Plus now all except CSR, has the same mug design.

However - at the Swan/Dolphin, the mug pattern and shape has not changed, at least not in 2002 and 2007 - they were the same refillable mug.
So we did use our 2002 mugs in 2007.
Saved us $40 in 2007 - and we only use them about once per day.

Maybe the S/D will also change their mugs - we'd be up to getting new ones anyway. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I haven't reused mugs, but I probably would if they were the same design and had (very) recently been purchased.

In our past 6 stays at Pop, we've seen numerous mugs/containers filled up at the refill stations - everything from 7-11 big gulp cups to sports drink bottles plus old Pop mugs and mugs from other resorts. Yes signs say your mug is good for refills for the length of the stay for which it was purchased, however, Disney doesn't enforce the "rule". Truthfully, it's none of my business if someone wants to reuse an old mug, it's their choice - I'm there to enjoy my vacation and not worry about someone reusing mugs.

Iyou paid the $12 for the length of the stay the go "green." Filling up when you didn't pay is by law stealing and if Disney wanted they could prosecute. It would be the same as going to 7-11 with a cup and filling it up with soda without paying. Maybe the mugs would be cheaper if so many people stopped stealing the soda?

Last summer, I was at the concierge desk of my resort waiting for the 24 hour mark to check in with Southwest Airline. As no other guests were there are the time, I was chatting with the CM. We were discussing my next trip (I'm so bad) and he turned to me and said to make sure that I bring our mugs back next time as they allow people to use them for future trips (I didn't ask; he volunteered the info; I think I was commenting that they were nice). I was surprised but excited to hear it. For our next trip (February) we got the QSDP so we got mugs as part of the plan, but I would have otherwise probably brought our mugs based on the instruction of the CM. We now have the 2009 mugs because of the QSDP from our February and the mugs are the same ones that are still for sale so most likely I'll bring the same mugs if we do end up taking the December trip we're planning. In February I did look for the signs saying they're only good for the duration of the trip but I didn't see them. I figure if I can't find the signs (again, I did look) and the CM at the concierge desk says it's permitted them I'm going to bring them. I feel that I'm following the rules that have been outlined to me. If we don't end up going again until after they come out with new mugs then I'll likely buy new ones just so I can have the next design.

As PP said, we, too, bought the mugs on our last trip and so have not been in the position to decide whether or not to reuse them. DS got a mug, got one drink, and never again used it on that trip! DH and I got 5, maybe 6 refills each. So, it was a toss up whether or not we got our money's worth. In the mean time, we have great travel mugs for home that remind us of the magic!

Yes, but not out of cheapskateness, or some desire to get one over on Disney.

We travel as a party of 6, and on the next trip we'll have the QSDP for 4 people - twice (split stay, one room is getting the dining plan for 2 reservations) which gives us 8 mugs. The problem is that the new mugs only come in 3 colors, which makes it difficult to tell which mug is who's.

Having more mugs doesn't improve the situation, since they all look alike. Sharpie wears off, I know from experience. And there's nothing like expecting cool ice water and getting my hot black coffee instead. So I'll bring down my mug from last year, which is noticeably different. I'd feel bad about it, but 1) we're going to have mugs coming out our ears and 2) three of us only drink water anyway.

One trick we use to tell who's mug is who's is we bought the Wine glass hanger things at DHS they had them in one of the stores heading to ToT.

They are like charms on a ring that we attach to the handles and are Disney themed . I couldn't find them after the last trip (think DD used them for one of her Craft projects lol) so we will pick up another set. I think they come in 4s or maybe even 6 to a pack.

now im outta the loop a little here- have beenn in 4 years! yikes!!! lol when we went to typhoon lagoon in i think 04, we bought a reusable mug. the cm working that day said yep you buy it and get a scan code on it and its good for life in any park/ resort for the rest of your life. now how on earth you would reuse it when the scan code was a paper sticker i haven't figured out! but im assuming this is no longer true?

The water park mugs are the exception to the rule. You buy them and they are good for the day you purchase them. Then on subsequent visits, you purchase a new sticker good for the day. The new sticker costs about $5-6 if I remember correctly. All the other mugs are only good for the length of the trip that you bought the mug at the resort you bought it. All the newer mugs have that writing on the mug. Earlier mugs had signed posted where you bought the mug that they were good for the trip that you purchased them.

It doesn't matter whose mug is whose if you wash them each time you use them. We had 4 identical mugs on our trip to POP. I washed them in the bathroom sink each night and we'd each picked one up on the way out the door. We'd leave them in the car during the day and stop at the food court for an evening refill. At that time, we'd use the mug wash station. It was never a problem. If they're full, everyone keeps their own mug in front of them so I don't see how you would get surprised by what's inside.:confused3

I wonder if I can bring my mug from previous years and ask to pay for a refillable mug but use my old mug. I like using the service but am up to my ears in mugs and popcorn buckets! I don't need another mug!!

Last week we were at POFQ and saw people filling mugs that had the old Dixie Landings logo on them right in front of CMs and the CMs never said a word! How many years has it been since PO was changed from Dixie Landings? Several at least, I know! We saw every variety of refillable Disney mug we had at home in our cupboard being refilled while we were there last week. I still think it is breaking the clearly stated rule: the mug is for that stay only.

For me house rules are house rules, and they say "length of stay."
Enough said.If someone else gets away with it that doesn't make it o.k.
It would be sad to see some sort of mug police hovering around the soda station.Right! :goodvibes

I think these DL mugs are one of those that were sold a long time ago that stated they are good for life.

I personally could care less either way! But I keep reading "what are you teaching your kids" .... I am pretty sure most kids would have no clue about the rule.

People are selling the mugs on ebay. Infact just last week someone listed a mug and said it was like new and able to be reused for your stay at Disney. I reported the auction and it was removed. I also emailed the seller and was told to mind my own business...jerk. Whoever the seller was ended up relisting their mug. So people are even purchasing these mugs used and taking them to Disney for refills.

EXCELLENT IDEA........That is what I am going to do this year, I too will end up with 8 mugs as we have 2 7 night splits with QSDP for each.:cool1:
