Does anyone know the rule for split stay? We will be at CSR for 5 nights and then GF for 3...do I need to buy a set of mugs for each resort?

No you will not.

The newer rules are Length of stay so Split stays are just that.

The old Mugs use to have At the Resort where purchased the new ones just say Length of Stay so you are good to go..

It doesn't matter whose mug is whose if you wash them each time you use them. We had 4 identical mugs on our trip to POP. I washed them in the bathroom sink each night and we'd each picked one up on the way out the door. We'd leave them in the car during the day and stop at the food court for an evening refill. At that time, we'd use the mug wash station. It was never a problem. If they're full, everyone keeps their own mug in front of them so I don't see how you would get surprised by what's inside.:confused3

We're afternoon break people. Long afternoon breaks, sitting by the pool, eating a staggered late lunch/early dinner, sipping our drinks and chatting while the kids "swim". Some of our mugs are also likely to go into the parks with us, to be refilled there, which means some number of mugs hanging from the back of a stroller/in the bottom of the stroller sort of jumbled together.

When we're sitting by the pool, and have 5 mugs of whatever when one person goes in to refill them - yeah, it's easy to get the mugs confused. Certainly by the 5th trip in to get refills. And my daughter's mug would be sitting in front of me (since she's in the pool), so if we have identical mugs, and mine has diet soda and hers has water - she's got a 50% chance of gulping from the wrong one when she swings past for a drink.

A quick rinse at the mug station isn't going to keep us from transferring germs back and forth in that context, so peeking to see which ones have water doesn't solve the problem.

Something tied around the handle may be the best option. We'd only need to mark one of them for the first stay, since with my old mug that would give us 5 unique mugs. Then for the second stay we'd mark a second one and leave 3 unused.

Either way, the YOMD mug is coming back, and being filled at the drink station. In prior years we re-filled empty water bottles there, and a travel mug is better (easier to clean, keeps the water cool longer, DD drinks more volume from it because it has Mickey on it).

People are selling the mugs on ebay. Infact just last week someone listed a mug and said it was like new and able to be reused for your stay at Disney. I reported the auction and it was removed. I also emailed the seller and was told to mind my own business...jerk. Whoever the seller was ended up relisting their mug. So people are even purchasing these mugs used and taking them to Disney for refills.

Jerk???? Sounds like you have too much time on your hands.

 That's just gross! The idea of buying somebody's used mug is just disgusting.

I would have told you to mind your own business too. Bottom line it's their decision and not my place to question their morals. I'm not saying it's right, but if they want to resell the mug, or if someone wants to reuse their mug on another trip that's their choice.

With the number of people using old Disney mugs or containers that aren't even Disney mugs, it's obvious that the only people who care about this issue are the people on this forum. Disney does not enforce the "rule" about reusing mugs and we all know that they are not shy about enforcing rules when they feel it's appropriate.

I totally agree, Disney has set policy but doesn't wish to enforce it, same for past expired fast passes. It's the forum police that have the issues. I, personally don't give a hoot one way or another but these threads pop up way to often with the same outcome, alot of wasted space. Do what ever you want.

I was called a jerk. And no I don't have too much time on my own hands. You must be the reseller of the mugs. Like other posters said....gross and it was only reported for key word spamming which is not permitted on ebay. Break all the Disney rules you want but ebay removed the auction for the words LIKE new. How is a used cup LIKE new?

The reason that the item was reported was for the use of the words LIKE NEW. Ebay does not permit it and I've had auctions removed for the use of those words to describe clothing. I see no harm in reporting it because a used cup is NOT like new. Oh and ebay immediately pulled the auction for use of the words. They might not be following the Disney rules but they need to obey the ebay ones.

Yes those Dixie Landings mugs are "forever" mugs. So they can use them only at Riverside even though the resort name has changed. Disney changed the mug rules in 2002 where they added the "only good at this resort for lengh of stay". I have 2 sets of forever mugs one set for CBR I bought in 2000 and one set for AKL I bought in 2001. I only use these mugs at the resort I bought them at. I plan on bringing my CBR "forever" mugs with me in Sept. when I stay in my pirate room.

Do you guys sleep with your mugs! I would not waste my vacation time, running back and forth to "MUG stations" just to save a few dollars on refillable mugs.

People who violate the "length of stay"-rule, on purpose, is just plain cheap!

Flame on!

 That's just gross! The idea of buying somebody's used mug is just disgusting.

I'm a germaphobe but I don't think it's disgusting. It's just like going to a restaurant and using their untensils, they've been used before but they have also been washed.

For me house rules are house rules, and they say "length of stay."
Enough said.If someone else gets away with it that doesn't make it o.k.
:thumbsup2

For the record, just because I think it is wrong, doesn't mean I am the "Mug Police". I don't waste my precious vacation time hanging around the refil station, screaming at mug offenders. I did joke with my sister though during our last trip that we should jump the guy who was refilling old, old, mugs at the ASSp. She declined, and we went on enjoying our meal.

I do think it is pretty lame to spend so much on a Disney vacation, and then choke at spending a few bucks for a mug.

I don't have a problem with anyone using them within the year so if someone purchased for their trip in April 2009, I wouldn't care if anyone used it again in July 2009.

But new design=you get new mugs.

While I do not believe using the same mug for 25 years is right, I do see the unfairness for the locals who go for several 1 night stays at Disney resorts to buy 25 mugs either....

I do tend to agree with this lacrosse_lady72's position as a compromise.

:mickeyjum

Oh and in reference to the EBAY Auction...I agree that the Ebay seller who was trying to sell that used mug for someone else to use at Disney was in a need of a firm kick in the rear!!! To me that guy/girl crossed a major line in the sand there... I love Disney and that person was truly stealing from Disney in my opinion.

I guess my point was in respond to all the Disney does not enforce the rule comments- If people seriously abuse the rule, you could eventually see a cast
member policing the area. Honesty, IMO allows the cast members to do their jobs and make magic. Abuse can cause unneccesary man power to do such jobs as watch guest to see if abuses are occuring. I try to teach my DD to act with honesty even when no eyes are watching.

So maxiesmom I agree with you and never meant you were the dreaded mug police!

Not quite. When we bought our first mugs in 1997 at the Polynesian, there were signs posted that the mugs were good only for the length of stay. So anyone who says that the rules changed in 2002 isn't quite correct. I think in 2002, they may have started posting the rules on the mug.

It would be nice if people just did the right thing instead of trying to justify their actions.

Some of the old mugs were definitely "forever"

I have three DxL mugs..bought them in '99. They were sold as 'good forever, at DxL'. Now, can I take them back with me and use them at POR? I would assume so. But, now I have three POR mugs. Also have three Polynesian mugs, 3 BW, 2 BC, 1 CR, 1 TL, 2 AllStarMusic, 4 POP, 3 generic YoMDs,1 S/D. The S/D goes back with me every time....they made a point of telling me to be sure to bring it back on every trip...so I do.
Do I reuse my other mugs?? Sometimes. There was the time I bought my POP mugs but was there for only two nights. When I returned, within 6 months, I brought it back with me. I was staying only one night and didn't feel the need to buy another mug. Wrong? Probably.
Now, with the change in mug design, I may buy a couple new ones.

If Disney really wanted to stop the 'abuse' they would change the system...it would be simple. They could sell bar code stickers that would go on your mug. You keep the same mug as long as you like. But, you buy a current sticker for, say $5, each time you return. The bar code has your reservation dates in it...as soon as midnight of your departure day comes, your bar code no longer scans.

But, it doesn't seem to be an issue for Disney. Most people are honest and use a new mug. Others bring back their WDW mugs from previous stays. The people I have an issue with? Those who fill up their thermos or big gulp from a convenience store. Or they use their SW, Busch Gardens, US/IoA mugs/cups. At least if we are reusing our Disney mugs Disney has gotten some compensation from us!!! Other mugs/cups, from other venues, shouldn't be allowed. A CM should step in and prevent that.
