We are starting to pack for our trip (9 days away:banana:)! We have a mug from All Star resorts from 10 years ago. When we were deciding on whether to buy it, the CM at the All star resorts told us it can be used any time we returned to Disney. Now fast forward 10 years later- I know from my research (and these boards) that the mugs sold now are only good for the length of your stay.

I'm trying to figure out if the CM gave us misinformation or if the refillable mugs used to be reusable on future trips.

As always, thanks! :goodvibes

Unfortunately, policies change. The policy now is that a mug cannot be used beyond your length of stay. In the grand scheme of things, the price of a new mug is very little. You might just want to update. :goodvibes

ahhh, the timeless question once again

Has this been asked before? I've seen numerous threads where people ask whether they can use last years mug again or use one resorts mug at another resort (basically asking if they can break the rules), but this is different. We absolutely were told by a CM that the mugs were allowed to be used on all subsequent trips. I know the policy with the new mugs is different, but IF this WAS the old policy and this mug was purchased during the old policy, I might as well bring it and buy one less mug (I'll probably buy at least one new one anyway). If that was NOT the policy and the CM was wrong, there is no reason to bring the mug back with me and I'll just buy two.

I just figured the people on this board would have more info regarding the previous policy with the mugs.

Again, thanks for any info you can give.

Another nail in this coffin is that Disney no longer has resort-specific mugs, but rather a general mug that is designed and issued for a calendar year. I don't know what the re-use policy is within a given year, but suffice it to say that they can no longer be used after their "expiration date".

We took our first trip in 1997 and bought refillable mugs at the Polynesian. There were signs all over the place similar to what safetymom has posted on the previous post. They are good only for the trip that they were purchased. CMs are notorious for giving incorrect information regarding refillable mugs. It just makes it easier for them than trying to enforce a policy that Disney choses not to enforce - just like many of them.

Take them with you - ask and see what they say -- we have the same mugs and used them until this past summer when we got the new ones as we were buying for a whole group.

We were there in December/January and although I didn't see many I did see a few of the older style mugs being used.

I saw people going with what I assumed was the older mugs. They were fatter and had a different design then the YOAMD. Nobody said anything to them.....

We took ours from 2006 with us in 2007 and used them, and literally about half the people filling up were using the same mug as we had from 2006-- the Port Orleans Mug!!! and you could tell they were not the 2007 mugs (YOAMD mugs)! I even asked a CM while filling up if they could be used again and she said it was fine to use.

I think the problem is there is so much misinformation-- they may post that, but then even the CM's working in the food court selling the mugs don't know! So you decide!

The rules have been posted. If you ask a CM then it is ok. The DIS is not the place to debate whether it is ok to break the rules that are posted. Thank you.

actually the bottom line is, and we are annual guests, sometimes twice a year, so we see it all, nobody pays any attention to the mug rules at all. ive seen some that looked like they were made before electricity and some that said big gulp and 7-11 on them and no one is ever challenged about them and i doubt anyone ever will be. why piss somebody off over thirty cents worth of carbonation. as for my comment, the mug issue seems to be far and away the most debated and i LOL every time i see a new one. sorry if i offended you.

It has been noted that CMs are now approaching guests with old mugs.

Hi, all. My family of four drove from NJ to WDW. We spent our first night, (6/23) at All Star Music - the Jazz Building. We've never been in a value resort before, and were pleasantly surprised. The room was perfectly adequate for my family. I was expecting a shoe-box with a bed. It really wasn't bad at all. The pool was fun - but crowded. The food court was pretty good, but also kind of crowded. My kids enjoyed the large icons and the other children. They showed Pirates of the Caribbean at night, and that was fun! It really was a pleasant surprise for us.

We checked into the Wilderness Lodge on Sunday, 6/24. We got there around 8:30 a.m. - and SURPRISE - our room was ready. We were given room 6157 - inner courtyard room with bunkbeds and a fabulous view of the pool (and bay lake). We were loving it. Our last trip we had room 6145. We were able to view the fireworks from our balcony. The pool was never overly crowded, and there was always a chair available poolside. The kiddie pool was good for my four-year old - however; he liked the adult pool with the life jacket. Roaring Forks was decent, but always crowded.

They did switch over to the new mug design, and I did see the cashiers approach people using the old design.

I wasn't too fond of the food choices (or lack of). And, my 9-year old son can eat more than 4 little chicken tenders since he is almost five feet tall! So, they should re-evaluate the kids menu.

Whispering Canyon was a fun time! We ate there twice for breakfast and once for dinner. The food was really good, and we had a blast. There was always a boat within 10 minutes of us arriving on the dock. We always managed to miss the bus we needed, but never waited more than 15 minutes for the next one. The biggest problem was trying to leave Epcot at night and having to wait for three busses before we could board.

Funny enough, every time I walked through the halls at the Lodge, I always felt like I was the only one there!

Oh, and I received five towel animals during my stay!

Any ?'s, please ask.

I also stayed at All Stars around the same time and was told the same thing re: refillable mugs, that they could be used at future visits. However, the policy has clearly changed. I wish those old mugs had been marked in some way showing no expiration. Since the policy had clearly changed I had been buying new mugs on each trip. However I got really irritated on my last trip. I did a split stay WL/Poly for ten days. I bought the new mugs. I asked the Asst. manager at WL ROaring Forks if I could transfer my mugs and was told "no" I would have to buy new ones at the Poly as mine was only good for my WL lodge stay. I was going to the Poly in one hour. I thought this was insane becuause if I was staying at the WL for 10 days I could use the mugs the whole time. Well at the Poly I used our mugs because the design was exactly the same and we were on the same trip. Feel free to flame me.

DSis has a mug from FW that's more than 20 years old and was bought when they were "good for all future trips." On a recent trip she was told she could still use it and she still does. Every time she asks she gets the same answer but that's a special case.

Sadly the rules have changed. The break even is three sodas. If you plan on buying 3 or more then get a new mug, if you're not planning on drinking that much then just buy individual drinks. It's a good deal. Unfortunately they don't do that at SOG at all.

No flames from me because I am sure your not the 1st guest who has done a split stay and purchased the YOAMD mugs at the 1st Resort you stayed at, then used them at the 2nd Resort you were staying at.

If it makes you feel any better last month when I stayed at the Poly, while I was eating at Captin Cook's one night these two guests sat down at the table next to me and they were using the Poly logo mugs.

sorry if i offended you.

No apology necesarry. I wasn't offended by your response.

I'm not trying to break rules that are posted. If you look at my initital question what I'm asking is whether the older mugs had different rules. If the older mugs (with a different design) are good for future visits, and the new mugs are only good for the length of your stay, and I have the older mug, how is that breaking a rule? Based on some of the responses here, it seems I was not the only one told that the mug can be used for future visits.

The only negative is that when I bought it, I did not expect it to be 10 years, one marriage and two kids later that it would be used again! :rotfl:

Based on my numerous trips to the All Stars since my mugs were purchased ten years ago - the older mug rule seems to apply --- I have never found them to answer any differently when asked. Hope that helps.

I remember at the time talking about how ingenious it was cause it kept me going back to the All Stars rather than trying other hotels --- although through the years I have stayed at the others but never bought the mug -- I don't like the moderates so don't stay there and as for the deluxes I have stayed at I have found the spot to refill the mugs inconvenient.

Have a great trip!

I believe that one can never have too many mugs!

Case in point (keep in mind that the AKL Mara mug & a CSR mugs are in the dishwasher and we've had some mug deaths throughout the years :sad2:)
