Refillable mug changes

I don't drink a lot of soda, I drink coffee. Our last visit, the Coffee was not coded for the RFID. If it's still the same, then it wouldn't be much of an issue for me anyway. Even on a 9 day stay, at one cup a day (and I drink more than that) I would expect to pay about $2.00 a cup normally so it would definitely pay for itself. That said, however, I got the mug(s) when we got the dining plan on our last trip (Fort Wilderness - 2014). Since we spent time at the FW Pool the kids loved getting all the soda they wanted without worry. Also our camper was a short walk to the Meadows Trading post and the Pool snack stand where we could refill. It was never an issue for us on the "3 Minute" timer between refills. I think that is more to prevent people from filling their "ONE" mug and pouring it in another cup to share with someone who didn't have the refillable mug.

Would I pay for it? Probably not. If it didn't come with the Dining plan, I would just make my own coffee in our camper/room and/or buy the occasional cup anyway. Our kids don't need that much "Extra" soda as they will also get soda with their meals in the parks or elsewhere. It's a nice convenience but I doubt, that if I had to pay extra for it, that I would purchase it. We didn't do it before when we DIDN'T have the DDP, so unless we had the DDP again, I just can't see us doing it. Besides, how many souvenir cups does one family need? The 5 Refill mugs from last trip, 5 "Cocoa" mugs from Sea World (Nov/Dec 2014), Other Souvenir mugs, cups, bottles from elsewhere......

That's why I've bought a mug or two in the past, for the coffee. Some caff in the morning, some decaf at night... But it depends on our plans specifically, if I buy it.

What is the single-paper-cup price for dispenser drinks at resort food courts these days? Is it $2.50?

I think it's 2.99. That's what Contempo Cafe has currently listed on the official menu anyway. I can tell they just raised prices on OJ and bottled water, not sure if any of the other drink prices were raised...

Nope won't do it. We don't usually stay longer than a long weekend and don't drink enough soda for $16. I have enough of the WDW mugs.

Yes, all bottled (non-alcoholic) drinks apparently just went up by 75c (e.g. 16.9 fl oz of Dasani water is now $3.25 instead of $2.50). You didn't think all of the new things Disney is now offering were actually going to be free did you? ;)

It won't change anything for me because we typically do a 10-14 night stay. If we're on a Dining Plan it's included. If we're not we buy them because on a long stay the per-day price is a lot lower and we do find we use them a lot. We use them for any meals at the resort food court (if meal comes with drink we get a sealed drink - something we can't get from the mug soda machines - and stash it in the room fridge for another time). When we get back to the resort for an afternoon break or to swim or for a wind-down period before bed we head to the food court area with our mugs, sit and enjoy a few beverages while we talk about the day. If we get sucked into watching the evening movie by the pool we're going to refill those puppies a lot. Then one final refill and carry the mug back to the room. We always head back to the room and leave the mugs there before going to the parks. The logistics actually work OK because our favorite resort is CBR. If you stay in Aruba or Jamaica you take the bridge across to the mug refill in Old Port Royale, then walk back, drop off your mugs, and catch the bus on the other side of your resort village.

It sounds like Disney is trying very hard to get everyone a refillable mug by dropping its price while significantly increasing the price of everything to drink. This trip I'll be doing the not-free-but-a-good-deal-for-me dining plan so I'll have a mug, but when I don't have the dining plan I will not be purchasing beverages on property.

Sounds like what Royal Caribbean is doing. They are learning from each other. Clever companies... (watching Jurassic Park right now so that phrase is in my head)

The bottled drink price hike wasn't quite as bad as I'd been led to believe, it was only 25c not 75c. So bottled water for example is now $2.75, up from $2.50. The timing is still a bit suspicious though, when at the same time they add them as 'free' items on dining plans. :)

All mugs are coded for 14 days, regardless of your length of stay. :)
so you use the same mug for both resorts? it's coded for 14 days, regardless of the length of stay? (first visit since new mugs. trying to absorb all the info, LOL)

Yes, you can use the same mug for 14 days. All resort machines read the chip.

Yes, the mugs work at any Disney resort for 14 days whether you're staying there or even just visiting.

So this is a little off topic question but still deals with the mugs. If you are traveling with others and yall all have this same mug, do you mark them somehow with sharpies so you can tell who owns which one? Or are there different designs to choose from? We will be staying in the Beach Club and wondered if there is just one design for all of these refillable mugs?

The design is the same, but the lids/handles come in several colors.

adding to this, there are only 4 colors (I think) Red, Blue, Green and Yellow, or at least that's what we had in November of 2014. So if you have more than 4 in your group, you will have overlap. We still marked ours with Sharpies as well. We just did it in an inconspicuous location.

Okay great! We will have 4 adults so that will help a lot!
