well im turning 20 in october and im living at home while i go to college...so for my bday, my parents are going to help me redo my room...it is kinda little kiddish !

My carpet is dark blue, but mom said i can get new carpet (is sooo old)....so i basically can pick any color i want, and have no ideas..i have lavender now, but wanna get a new one..any ideas??? ...i dont like orange !

What sort of accessories are you going to have in your room? You could go with a beige color or maybe a light pink.

my sister re-did her room a few months ago ... she went with a white carpet, with a large purple throw rug that covered most of the floor, painted the (formerly white) bookshelf pink, painted the walls a light yellow, and got sheets to match. It looked good, (although, I'm not really a fan of pink and yellow, it did look good together)

mommytotwo---havent thought about much yet...but im getting a new bed and i have a desk, a shelf unit, and im getting my brothers old mini entertainment center for my tv...dont know specifics except i have a ton of pictures :)

eric--hmm not a big fan of pink, but i could see how that owould look nice with the yellow...ive always had like blues and purples..but i dunno :)

Sounds like a white carpet would do good, as long as you don't spill anything on it and don't have pets to stain it. You could do a contempory look with black and white furniture. Metal like picture frames and such.

My DD17 is doing the same thing right now. She has light beige carpet and is going with blue and yellow color scheme in her room. Like sunflower and cornflower if you know what I mean. She chose a "travel" theme and has Eiffel Tower, Marilyn Monroe in a NY train station and beach themes. It is kind of random but is coming together well. She also has a shoe chair at her computer desk - you know a chair shaped like a giant shoe (in yellow and blue of course:D ). Have fun decorating your room. I hope it turns out like you want.

Oh - and the accent color is bright pink - very fun and festive!

I love the pergo floors in my son's room. I wish I could afford to have the whole house done with these wood floors. You could add a nice area rug. I personally like light blue for a room with an accect color of light yellow....kinda cape cod style.

As far as carpeting. I'd do something sort of neutral-ish, or at least not too offensive, so when you leave hoem again, your parents won't have this really kooky-colored rug to deal with!!!!;)

How about a tropical/beachy theme? Maybe a medium blue or sage green rug, with a bright floral bedspread and curtains, some bright beachy pictures for the walls, paint your furniture a bright "beachy" color (ie-yellow, turqouise, lavendar, bright peach-but not orange!!) Think "Beach Club" or "Old Key West".

o disneydoll--i love the beach idea!!im a "beach person" and that would be great to bring it into the room :)

I am a fan of the blue, light yellow and white beach theme as well..... probally would go with a light blue carpet for that.....

my daughter was a little dissapointed when I suggested beige walls and a beige carpet, but it ended up being the best thing. She changes her room around seasons and moods. Right now her room has a definite 'african' feel to it. She has an animal print bedspread that is not overly printed. It's black with blocks of different animal fur. She has black and animal pillows covering it. On the wall are some animal pictures with carved frames. Her shelves hold collections of carved animals, glass orbs, and interesting candlesticks. It really looks cool. Plus she has a wall of concert shirts and friends, etc.

She also has a blue, black, red, graffiti styled bedspread. When she uses that, she flips her animal pillows over to the black side and adds some denim pillows we made out of old jeans. The animal pictures come down and watercolors go up. The collections stay, but we add some more red items like vases, etc.

It's alot more fun to change things around.:earsgirl:
