Redbox is full, can't return movies! vent

I too would have never imagined this happening...it is something to consider. I have never tried using the service, as far as I know there is only one here in town. That would be a big inconvenience for sure.

I live in a town of 8,000 people...no Walmart, chain drug stores or big name gas stations :goodvibes Our only Redbox location is inside the one and only grocery store in town lol

Lucky you...6,000 people here...We have a Rite Aid, but no Red Box. At times I'd rather have the Red Box.

I'd definitely be calling and raising a stink about the inconvenience and how they need to credit you until you are able to return it etc. I get that there is only one in the town and it's a rural area (from the sounds of it) but that doesn't mean they get to hand you the short end of the stick, ya know?

Call them back and demand action (like being credited 2-3 days until they get someone out there to empty it etc.) they can afford to lose a couple bucks for their folly.
Is it really Redbox's "folly" that more customers returned DVDs to this particular box than rented them during a particular period? There's no requirement that a movie has to be returned to the same box from which it was rented, right?

So if this box never overfills, it's reasonable that the standard service schedule is kept, isn't it? You can't fix a problem you don't know exists - and it's $1 per night movie rentals. It doesn't seem like the kind of business where you'd have a 24 hour or even on-call service staff.

We have several redboxes in our town... but only one is outside of the store. That one is the buiest since you just have to pull up to the curb. Occasionally it is full, and it is a pain to drive around looking for one to return the movie... but, then I just think if that is the worst thing to happen to me today... then I am grateful :-)

OP, glad you got to return your movie! Redbox has always had great service for us. If there is ever a problem, they have never hesitated in givingus codes :-)

I can't imagine only having one or two in town. I have at least 6 redboxes within a one mile radius of me and I don't think of Boise, Idaho as being a huge area :rotfl:

Yes, I have about 6 within a mile (2 boxes at 2 different grocery stores, and 2 Walgreens)

The Walmart near my sons workplace has 4! (2 at each entrance)

So now I have two dvd's that I can't return because the Redbox is full.
Cust. Service said they will flag the box to get it emptied but that could take 24-48 hrs. Or I could use the free codes they gave me and then that would free up 2 spots to return my movies but then I will have two more movies to return. This has never happened to me before. And I don't want to drive all over creation looking for more Redboxes.

If you know where these places are (everyone has a few of them, nearby), you'll find a Redbox.

It never even occured to me that the boxes could be full...glad you opened my eyes to this OP! Glad that you got your movies returned too:thumbsup2 You may have started a new game: stalk the redbox box for renters, so you can return yours!

I have had the issue of trying to return a movie to a redbox that is full, or even out of service. For those of you saying "just go to a different one" they aren't everywhere in all areas. I am in a rural-ish area, and the Redbox closest to me is about 7 miles north of home (but within my normal range of where I go regularly). The next closest one to me is 18 MILES west (there are two or three in that town) or 20 miles East (again, there are a couple there). So it's not always as simple as going around the corner to the other Walmart or Walgreens.

When I have run into the out of service Redbox, I always call. usually they suggest going to another one, but when I have explained the distance issue to them, they have always credited me for a extra day or two without a problem. And it's a good thing, because I'm surely not driving 40 milesround trip over the mountain to save $1.20!

It's not just rural.

I'm in a big city, and they just aren't here. There are a few, I know of two in my general area, two miles apart, and there may be others around but not in this neighbourhood, there are like 2 within 4 or 5 miles. Which isn't much if you're in a car area, but this isn't.

So if one is full, it's either a four-mile walk (r/t) or spend $5 and a half hour on the train to go to the other stupid box and back. Or keep hoping, but when it happened the other night, one of the people had already been out trying a few times without succes.

There are no Walmarts (we're still managing to keep them at bay), there aren't any in markets or McDonald's that I know of, just Walgreens and those are very rare here.

Ah-ha! So there are some drawbacks to not having a car in the city. ;)

Hah! Nah, it's not like you'd use it to drive to a redbox if you did. I mean some people do have cars but they don't go get in them to drive 2 miles down the street!

You'd have to find parking there, just to return the movie, then find parking when you got back? And you think the train or walking would take a long time?

I have never even seen a Redbox and, no, not everyone has a Walmart, Walgreens, McDonalds, or even any big box place nearby. I have a local owned grocery store of which rents DVDs (remember when we weren't so lazy that we could exit our cars and actually walk in to rent a movie from an actual person?) and I have a bank and post office nearby. That is all I have. I use a gallon of gas just to get home from the gas station.

Not when you live in rural areas. We do have a McD's, it does not have a Redbox. The nearest one (besides the one in the local grocery store) is 20 miles away. Luckily in the few years we've been using Redbox we've only ran into an out of order or full machine a handful of times.

I live in rural area go into larger city to shop. i've never seen a redbox in mcd's around here. and this includes columbus

Our McD's don't have Redbox, our WM does and our grocery stores do, the closest one to my house is a 7-11. And I still have to park my car, get out and go inside (with the exception of the 7-11, that one is outside, but I still have to park and go to the Redbox) to rent a movie.

OP I'm glad you got to return your movies, I've had the full message a few times, I just went to the other location down the street. However, others who weren't able to drive didn't want to do that so I ended up returning a bunch of other people's movies too. LOL One lady said she'd wait until someone rented something to return, I drove past on my way home from the other location and she was still standing by the box waiting to do her return.
