DH has started smoking a lot of meat which is really helping our budget. However, I need to be able to package the leftovers so that they don't get freezer burn. We'd also like to be able to slice our own lunch meat. Can you recommend a sealer and a slicer? Thanks!

We love the foodsaver system. Food will last in the freezer for up to 2 and even 3 years. My mom and sister have one and love it as well. If you get the canisters lettuce will last for weeks in the fridge as will cheese.

As for a slicer I have read some good things about deni but never owned one.

I second the FoodSaver system. We have had ours for 6 years now and love it!

So...which model do you have? Which would you recommend? I had no idea there were so many choices!

We bought the Rival brand at Walmart. Cheaper than the actual "Foodsaver" brand, but we have had no issues with ours and use it a LOT. I just did up 40 lbs of hamburger in 1/2-1 lb. packages.
I believe Rival has a new model out, slimmer than the one we have. I happened to notice it when we were there last week getting bags to do our meat. We also buy the roll of packaging that you cut to size instead of actual bags that are pre-made.

We also buy the rolls vs the bags as it is easier to fit to the size you need and less waste as well. I do buy the foodsaver bags as I found the others do not work as well on my foodsaver to get the air out and so I found I do not get as good of a seal with them. I have the flip up design but if I were to buy one today I would get the new one as it is more compact but still allows for bag storage in it. If you watch slickdeals every now and then one will pop up for a great deal.. I bought mine about 5 years ago at bed bath and beyond with a 20% coupon. Sams club sells the newest model as well. They also sell the rolls in bulk. I found them to be the best deal for the rolls. I bought my canisters off the foodsaver site when they had a good deal with free shipping.

Really I think any model will do the job. It all depends on what style you like.
