So after all the hotel convention, the only place I would consider other than the grand Floridians ball rooms is in front of the castle. I have never heard of anyone doing this, but I called this morning and was told that was a definite possibility and that I would have the overall minimum for the event. I was looking up the park closing times for this year and the end of april closes at 7pm so we would be able to have the reception afterwards, which would be amazing, has anyone done this or heard of it?

Don't count on using the end of April. It closes that early because of grad nights, so the park is already booked after 7. Also, from what I understand, they can't serve meals at the Magic Kingdom, but they can have a dessert menu.

I'm REALLY curious as to what the minimum is for this. My DF and I were trying to ballpark it and we had entirely different figures. I still think I'm right but I'd love to know. :rotfl:

Grrr! I hate DFTW and there not giving everyone the same opportunities :headache:

Good luck! Every time I'm on the phone with them I tell them cost isn't an object and they say it's impossible... :faint:

I know Sarah (the other thread Poster above) fought long and hard for a MK wedding - it's possible but she had to go all the way up the ladder to really do it. Be prepared! But I say good luck and hope you are able too!:goodvibes

I asked about having a Wishes dessert party in the MK and was told it was impossible.

I asked too! This was the only way I was going to do a DP. I was really, really, really hoping for a DP at the Main Street Train Station (as that's one of the places I used to work.) The show a couple quite a few years back on the official wedding website who had a cocktail hour there, I think? They need to take that off of there b/c it just taunts me!! (and haunts me!) hmpf. Alas, it's impossible.

I too asked for a desserty party there and was told I couldnt have it!

Skiqt323, I wrote about my experiences with this in a post on another thread last night -- click here.

I agree with Mla1977 -- there are many reasons for the park hours being the way that they are, and special events after closing hours are sometimes one of the main reasons why a park closes when it does. As Disney guests, we're not always privy to those reasons.

For example, when I was thinking about moving my event from the Disney Studios theme park to the Magic Kingdom theme park a few years ago, there were a couple of MNSSHP parties planned that week, as well as a couple of Happy Haunts events. The MNSSHP parties were easy to figure out, but if you didn't know about the Happy Haunts events, you wouldn't understand why the theme park was closing when it was.

There was only one night during the week of my vow renewal when the Magic Kingdom was closing at what might have been an okay hour for a private event. I was encouraged to pursue the idea of moving my event, but after a couple of sleepless nights, I decided to leave things as they were. The FTW folks had done such a wonderful job with my Disney Studios event, that I was afraid a Magic Kingdom event wouldn't have been half as much fun (and fun was the name of the game for my vow renewal). Still, it was a tough decision for me to make, but I think my Disney Studios event turned out beautifully and I have no regrets.

If you are seriously considering an event in the Magic Kingdom, you're going to have to remain extremely flexible with dates & times. But if the FTW folks say that an event isn't possible, I hope you find another venue that suits your needs equally as well. Remember, there are many (many) wonderful venues in Walt Disney World. Have fun planning!
