Recent cruisers - Can 1 family member checkin entire party? charging question

Thanks, Darwin91 and Mickey4Me! It sounds like I should be able to at least check DH and myself in, and get in the boarding line, depending on how long it takes for DH to return the car to Avis. I'm certainly glad to hear it - and three cheers for the DIS! :teeth:

On the 08/04/02 Wonder cruise, my wife checked us in while I parked the van. They would not give her my KTTW card. When I got into the terminal, I had to show my id to get my key for the cabin even though she showed my passport at check in

Yes, that is why they need a photo I.D. from adults. They can then be assured the person boarding the ship is the one pictured on the I.D., whether it is a passport or a photo driver's license.

I thought that you had to show your tickets and an ID in order to get back from the parking lot or from being dropped off by a third party. How can a spouse check in the other when the one who is parking cannot get back to the terminal without showing his ticket?

For our cruise, I did exacty what you want to do. I dropped off my DW , DS, and DD right at the terminal with all the luggage. My DW took ALL the tickets and went inside to check ALL of us in. I drove the car back to the Radisson/AVIS and took the shuttle back to the terminal. Actually, we stayed at the Radisson the night before and I was able to leave our car there during the cruise.

When we got to the terminal, they checked my name against their list of passengers and looked at my driver's license.

When I got into the terminal, my DD was waiting (while my DW and DS stood in line to board). DD told me the check-in person wanted me to go to her counter (I was to skip ahead in line to the front) and "show my face." She did not hold back my KTTW card. That was it. Then, my DD and I joined my DW and DS in the front of the line to board (well, about ten people from the front).

It was the best way to do it. No problems at all.

Remember to do the same thing in reverse when you get back (if you're staying on in Florida). My family waited with the luggage outside the terminal while I took the shuttle back to the Radisson/AVIS, got the car and then drove over to the terminal. No problem getting in. It's so much easier getting a spot on the shuttle if it's just you with no luggage. No hassles carrying the luggage across the parking lot to where the shuttle meets you.

Good Luck.

We just sailed 8/3 and I checked everyone in while DH parked car. I had all the documentation and all passports. He got there just as I finished, but as I recall, they didn't need him at all.

Good luck and have a wonderful cruise.

For our January 2002 cruise on the Magic, they checked our IDs at the driving entrance to the terminal and checked our names off of a list. I dropped off our luggage and my DW and she went up to the second floor and the checkin lines. She had both of our document packages with her.

When I returned from leaving the car in the parking lot and walked across the street in the crosswalk, they checked my Driver's License and again checked my name off of a list. Since we had filled out the pages in the documents package at home, my DW was finished with the checkin process and they had me go to the front of the line and show my Driver's License and my face before giving me my KTTW Card. If I recall correctly, they also wanted an imprint of my credit card too.

On a 3 day cruise last September, relatives were accompanying us in another cabin. They each used their own credit cards and listed them in their individual documents package

Personally, I enthusiastically approve the idea that they match a photo id with a person that matches the photo.

hope that helps
