Hi all. Four of my family were to fly TPA to BOS this am and the flight was cancelled. I was on hold w/Delta for over an hour to no avail so went ahead and booked a flight on Monday night with SW for them and a hotel for the next two nights. I still have not been able to get in touch with Delta although I have also emailed them. If the flight was cancelled, will they automatically rebook them? I'm really hoping that is not the case and hadn't thought anything of it until I read another thread here just a few minutes ago. I guess I assumed when they cancelled it was up to us to reschedule a flight. My family did not even go to the airport because it was 2 hours away and they already knew the flight was cancelled. Help?

If their flight was cancelled they are entitled to a full refund. Sorry the wait times are so long on the phone. Don't worry, they are not rebooked automatically. Just hang in there and wait on the phone like the rest of the stranded passengers.

Good luck!

Thanks for your response. After nearly two hours on hold tonight, finally I got through and yes, you are right, they do not automatically rebook (thank goodness) and the first available flights are not until Tuesday. They are pretty lousy flights, certainly not the NS originally booked. Just to clarify for anyone else in this predicament, because they flew down to TPA only the return flight which was cancelled is refundable. Lastly, the refund portion can be taken care of after they get home and settle in. At least they have options, expensive options, but options nonetheless.:scared1:

Did they buy trip insurance? If so, any non-refundable items would be covered (along with unplanned hotel expenses, meals, etc). We generally avoid flying from New England in the wintertime but the one time we did 2 years ago I bought trip insurance (for the first time) and we had major weather delays each way, I was very thankful I had purchasesd the insurance and it was very inexpensive for the peace of mind it gave.

Good luck getting your family home!!
