Rebel Alliance Roll call

Jen: Congratulations! Definitely something to celebrate!

Checking in with 10 miles this morning. Got up to get my long run in before the snow storm hit. Did't make it out the door as early as I wanted to so I was late starting to work. Woops! Oh well. I am sure they all knew exactly where I was. :D

j-sun, I'm not to far from you here in Charles Town, WV. My kids were home from school today, I think a half day would have been ok. But it is really coming down now. Thank goodness for the new treadmill.

Andrea, where are you in Virginia?

My DH had to go to Pennsylvania for the weekend for work. I am looking forward to my time on the treadmill to keep me sane while being snowed in with three kids.

cwnhokie, I am in Chesapeake.

It snowed pretty heavily for about 5 minutes, then it turned to rain, now it's just looking ugly. No treadmill for me, so I'll be out in the snow this weekend.

Just booked my DVC studio for the marathon weekend. Seems like a long time away but I'm still excited. Now to arrange the flights.

Liam

Thanks for all the words of encouragement on my first 5K!! It has been a really busy couple of days so I haven't even had a chance to check in since then. Friday I was able to get only 20 minutes in on the treadmill but today DH and I did our scheduled run (C25K - week 4, day 3). My plan for tomorrow is to start week 5 of the C25K program and then add a bit more to get in a full 5K before the snow starts!

Liam - How excited to have booked your DVC resort for the marathon weekend! What resort did you book? It may seem a long ways out but I bet the days will pass quickly. Right now we are counting down for our next Disney cruise...555 days away as of today.

Andrea - Do you put something on your shoes to help with traction when you have to run in the snow? I have Yaktrax but have not had to use them yet.

To Everyone on the East Coast - How is the snow going where you're at? We keep seeing reports of huge snow accumulations. All the snow cannot be helpful for running plans. We are expecting to get 10" starting late Sunday night - the only bad thing is that we will not cancel or delay anything for that amount.

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend!

We ended up with close to 40" here so there is no running outside. And there is another storm coming Tuesday night. The kids will probably be out of school all week. I booked airfare today though for a girls getaway weekend to do the Expedition Everest Challenge. So excited!

That is an amazing amount of snow!

We keep getting what I like to call "annoying" amounts of snow... 4" of it at a time, just enough to make driving difficult. Tonight we do have 10" coming and so I will dread our morning commute again.

The Expedition Everest Challenge sounds like a lot of fun. Are you going to do it as a team or solo?

Hi everyone! I haven't checked in for a few days. Busy digging out here in Central PA - 22" of snow Friday into Saturday!
Got out for a great run today:
Barb Kennedy ran 5.01 mi on 2/7/2010 at 3:35 PM with a pace of 11'56"/mi http://nikerunning.nike.com/n/r/en_US/2014009936/745586133/?sitesrc=fbk_ab_plus
This was my longest run yet! I'm following the Nike+ program on my iPod to get ready for a 10K on May1st.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
I'll check in tomorrow when I have more time to read everyone's posts here!

Just did 3.25 miles on the treadmill. Now I need to work on picking up the pace. Still can't run outside, the roads are way too dangerous for that.

Hi Jen,

I'm in Beach Club so that should be handy for the starts and finishes. Does anyone know whether I'll be able to walk back through Epcot after the finish or will I have to have park admission.

Hope the weather is not getting in the way too much.

Hi everyone,
Haven't been here in a few days. Lots going on.
We are in Central NJ and lucked out with the snowfall yesterday; we only got 2 inches. We seemed to be just on the borderline. Our friends 1/2 hour away got much more like 20 inches. Crazy storm.
With the slippery roads, I was nervous about doing the 7 miles outside so I opted for the TM. Ugh, but I did it and now I am glad it is done. I'm concerned about the upcoming Wednesday storm since that is a 5 mile day.
Getting excited for the Princess Trip coming up.
Hope everyone keeps up their good workouts and has a fantastic week.

Barb - Great job on the long run! I am so happy that you shared your Nike+ information...I just love mine and really thank you for suggesting it! How do you like the Nike+ training program? I have been using the C25K program but am considering using one of the Nike+ training programs instead.

Liam - I have never stayed at the Beach Club but it looks like a wonderful resort! It would be really nice if you were able to walk through the park when you were done...I have no clue about it though.

Sounds like you really lucked out with the snow! We are waiting for our storm to arrive - up to 14" is to be coming my way. I am so excited to hear about everyone's Princess Trip this year since that is my goal for next year!

To the Whole Group - I am looking for advice on 2 different topics...
1 - How many days a week do you run? I have been running 5-6 days a week and my body feels tired. Today I did 4 miles and felt like I was exhausted for most the day (this is the farthest I have ever gone). I think I might be running too many days in a row. I had been doing a lot more pilates, Wii workouts and weight lifting. Lately it seems like I have done more of the running and less of the other options. Any advice on this?

2 - What do you recommend for reading? I am looking for magazines, books or websites that people recommend to learn more about running, getting in shape and dieting. I have almost finished reading "Marathoning for Mortals" and have really enjoyed it (it is also what has gotten me thinking that I am running too many days in a row).

Thanks for any information and advice you are all willing to share! I am really enjoying my journey to exercising and healthier living and appreciate all the great advice I get on the WISH!

I survived the Blizzard of 2010. We got just over 20" here. Spent a good part of the weekend shoveling. Did manage to get in a 10 miler before the snow started on Friday, but I should probably hit the dreadmill today.

Jen: 1. It does sound like you are overtraining with your running. I personally do not run more than 4 days a week and most weeks I only run 3. I would probably start by dropping a day and see how you feel. 2. I like Women's Running magazine.

Good for you, Liam! That's one less thing to worry about. :thumbsup2

I don't have anything for my shoes. I just brave it and hope for the best. I've only slipped a few times but never done a butt-plant.

40 inches?! That's amazing. Our city shuts down when we get 2 inches,
I can't imagine how we would handle 40.

I agree with Katie that you are probably running too much. The fact that you are so tired is your body telling you to slow down. Just take an extra day or two off from running and do cross training on those days.

I also enjoy Women's Running. I think it is a little thin, but it's still pretty new, so I hope they flesh it out more as time goes on.

Everyone - have an amazing week! :grouphug:

Hi Rebels,

Please welcome the newest addition to your team---deleckidesign (and possibly DH)

Thanks.

Maura

:welcome: deleckidesign (and possibly DH) to the team! We are a pretty new team compared to the others, but we are very talkative and friendly! Just step right in and introduce yourself.

I bet you got a good workout in with all that shoveling! We are getting a bunch of snow here today but it should only be about 10"...not enough to do anything except slow down the rush hour.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to slow down to 3-4 days a week. I need to focus on trying to tone up my horrible middle bulge! :rotfl: I will have to find a few more activities that will focus on my whole body and give my running muscles a bit of a break.

Thanks for the advice as well! I have felt a bit like I need to run every day or I will not improve but I need to start thinking more about how to be nice to my body. I will be adding a bit more cross training to my schedule and be sure not to run so many days in a row.

One more thing (I am always filled with questions!) - Could you tell me how you got the Valentine's Day Virtual Run in your signature? I tried to download the 5K graphic, upload it to photobucket and then put it in my signature but it is HUGE! I am not sure what I did wrong.

Thanks everyone!
Jen

Jen

After you have it in Photobucket, edit it, then choose resize. The one in my siggy is sized "tiny." Let me know if that doesn't work.

Week 1 of my half-marathon training is done and I did day one of week 2 today and it is going pretty well. Just want to say that we had about one inch of snow this week-end and it was not enough to use my snowblower :rotfl2:.
A lot of new people and I will now go read the last 3 pages.

Diane

They announced today that we are expecting 10-18" more snow tonight. Groan! I am barely shoveled out from the 20" we got this weekend. There is no where left to put the snow. :P Oh well. I will be spending some time with my treadmill his evening.
