Rebel Alliance Roll call

I am having one of those days my friends. Was rear ended by someone this morning. Turns out their car insurance coverage that they presented me at the time of the accident was cancelled at the end of January. Ugh! It is just one thing in a series of crappy things happening today. I so need to get out and run.

Sorry Katie. That really stinks. I hope your run makes you feel better.

Katie,
I am so sorry to hear this. I hope the day gets better for you and that you get a chance to run and clear your thoughts.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Today is my rest day so I am taking things easier and psyching myself up for tomorrow's 5m. Snow is predicted for tonight and tomorrow so let's see what happens. You can be sure I will be using the TM if there is snow on the ground. I do not want a repeat performance of Sunday.

Have a great day everyone.

I'm sorry that happened, Katie. That really stinks. I hope it is all worked out for the best and soon.

I think I'm going to have to miss a training day today.:headache: I'm having some hamstring issues from my long walk on Sunday. It's worse today than it was yesterday, and yesterday was my rest day!

I'm torn between pushing through the pain or just taking another day off. But the Princess is coming so fast...

Sorry to hear that. When I first started running, a few weeks ago, I had some pain in the ball of my left foot that made me wonder if I should push it or take the time off. I'm stubborn, so I ran through the pain. It seems to be gone now thankfully.

I guess you should just listen to your body. Does it feel better while you're running? I had an ankle issue before that felt better when I would use it, but feel worse when I'd be off it for awhile.

Good luck with your decision.

K80K, I hope you're okay. I've been rear-ended too, make sure you're neck is okay! How severe is the damage to your car?

disney_mommy, Listen to your body! Even if you're under trained for the Princess, you will be able to finish! Race day magic is a wonderful thing.

As for me, first night of Masters swimming last night. I thought they would take it easy on me as I haven't been swimming in 7 months. Not the case, I swam for the whole hour and yes, my arms are a little sore this morning! The instructor kept saying "only rest for 10 to 15 seconds between laps" Yeah, right, I thought my heart was going to explode!

I think the car damage is more internal than external to the bumper. The outside looks okay aside from a slight dent, but the other person's car took some major damage to the front end which makes me think my bumper smashed more than it looks like it did but bounced back. I have been waiting for the dog to be done at the groomers to leave and go for my run. She is usually done 2 or 3ish. Here it is 4 and she is not ready yet. Snow should be arriving any minute now, so looks like I am stuck on the dreadmill this evening. Blech!

Good evening,
Phew, a lot to read this evening. I have finally decided that I will run the half-marathon in Ottawa at the end of May. It is a very well organized race week-end and I need a new goal.
A group at work is thinking of doing a relay next fall. It is a 117 km run and we can have 6 runners. Anyone has ever done a relay????
I have to go: work break over

Diane

Sounds like everyone is having a very busy day! A quick question...
any tips on cross training ideas that can be done at home and inside, with all this snow on the ground?

cwnhokie - Right now for cross training I use my Wii a lot. I do the Wii Fit, Active and Just Dance. I also lift weights (very light weight) and do pilates at home. Some days I also use the TM to do some easy walks. I know I need to start focusing more on cross training so I think this is a great question to get some new ideas.

Diane - I have never done a relay. I am just training to do my very first 5K...wish I knew more about running. :upsidedow Glad you have a new race to train for!!

Katie - Sorry to hear about your car accident today. What a bummer! I hope that you are okay. We have been getting a lot of snow but the temperatures were nice tonight so I was able to do my afternoon run outside.

Tiffany - Love the swimming! I bet that is a great cross training activity. I know that there is no way I could swim like that at this point. I am working so hard at building stamina.

Andrea - I hope that you took it easy today to rest your hamstring...or if you ran...I hope it worked out for you. I really struggle sometimes about whether to take a day of rest or to work through a pain I am having. So far I have chosen working through the pain but a couple of times I feel like that wasn't the best decision. I can't wait to hear about your experience with the Princess!!

I had a pretty good day. Did 2 miles this morning before school on the TM and 2.6 miles tonight on the road (lots of hills). For both, I did a combination of walking and running. I am up to about 50% walking and 50% running. I am just so slow....

Have a great night!
Jen

Yay for you, Diane! It's all about the goal, right?! Good luck on your half.:thumbsup2

For cross training at home, I use workout DVDs and the Wii. Pilates, yoga, boxing, strength training, salsa dancing, all of those are in my rotation. As long as you're doing something and moving your body, you'll get benefits. :yay:

As for me, I did take another day off and by the evening my leg felt beter. Then, of course, I was thinking I should do something. But I didn't chance it. I've got it taped up and elevated today, and it still twinges when I get up from my desk, but I'm trying to do that more often, so it doesn't stay stiff in one place for too long. I'll start slow tonight and hopefully I'll be good.

I think a good majority of us are still just learning how to do things right. That's why we have our team, to bounce ideas off of each other and ask questions. :grouphug:

We got another 4 inches of snow last night and might get more than a foot again this weekend, so I think I might have to join a gym in order to run on the treadmill. I really don't want to miss any days of my training plan and stay on schedule. I know most people don't like treadmills, but I just don't think I have any other option really.

Who else is ready for spring?

Katie: I had to smile that your slower full marathon was 3:00 when that is the speed of my only half. Oh well. 14 Half Marathons is very impressive. You are going to be busy.

Sorry you had such a bad day. Hope things get better for you.

J-sun: My natural pace is just so slow! Maybe it will speed up as I lose some weight. Good job not getting hit by cars! And YES! I am so ready for spring.

Jen: Rest days are my favorite, I just have to work to keep my eating in check on those days. But lately every day has been a rest day. Time to change that. How do you find the power to get up early and do miles. I always talk myself into staying in bed. Don’t worry about being slow! You probably are not as slow as you think you are. I am mixing running and walking too – but my walking is longer than my running. I can keep up a faster speed that way.

Gretchen: Sorry about the fall. Glad you didn’t get hurt.

Andrea: Sorry about the sore leg. No fun, but Seven Miles – Amazing! Did you end up going out or taking a rest day?

Jane: I love food too! Probably more than I love exercise still, but I am working on loving them both.

Tiffany: Swimming is so good for you. Sounds like a fun thing to do.

Diane: I have never done a relay, but we have a “Ragnar” here in Utah and I know a lot of people who do that. It is a fun team environment. You should do it if you want.

Cwnhokie: I have trouble with cross training too. I have the Wii Fit and will do the yoga and that stuff sometimes. DH and I are thinking of getting some DVD’s with different things on them for our non running days. He wants to do P90X, I am not sure we are ready for that yet. But a bunch of his friends are doing it, and he wants to too.

AFM: Monday I was stuck in bed with a migraine. I didn’t do anything but sit in the dark for the hours after I got home from work. It was no fun. Yesterday we went to the gym and ran around the tiny track there. It takes about 19 laps for a mile, so I don’t keep track. I have no idea how far I went, but we were moving for about 45 minutes and warm up and cool down, so I credit myself with 3 miles. I am hoping to get on the treadmill again tonight. DH went to the gym with me last night and I think he will be too sore to go tonight (he pushed it much harder than I did.)

Manda: 3 is not my slowest. I have taken up to 3:25 to finish a half. It is just where my average is right now if I really push it. In fact most of my halves have been over 3.

Diane: I have done a 200 mile 12 person team relay. It was definitely a neat experience. Thinking about doing another one next year.

I'm ready for Spring here too! The kids had a two hour delay for school this morning because we got 2-3 inches of snow overnight.
So after all the running around with the morning schedule messed up, I managed to get out for a run alone. My husband usually goes in a little late on Wednesdays so we can get a morning run in midweek but the weather goofed that up today!
I didn't even take my dog on my run and now he is sulking!
It was nice though, sunny and 37 degrees. The snow melted on the asphalt walkways so things were pretty clear. I felt great! I discovered that I push myself a little harder when I'm alone.
ran 3.12 mi on 2/3/2010 at 12:47 PM with a pace of 10'44"/mi http://nikerunning.nike.com/n/r/en_US/2014009936/947067571/?sitesrc=fbk_ab_plus
Thought I'd post that Nike thing if anyone still wants to check it out.
Hope everyone is having a good week and the snow lets up a little to let everyone outside!

I enjoy the treadmill myself. It's an extremely handy tool, and where would we be if we didn't have it? It can get monotonous at times, but I've always found TV and podcasts distract me quite well.

And yes, please bring on the Spring!

Thanks, I was pretty proud of that 7. Monday was my regular rest day, and I took an unscheduled rest day yesterday, but I will be back in the saddle tonight! Can't lose my momentum now.

Ugh, migraines suck. Glad you're feeling better. I can't imagine running around and around a track. I think that would be harder for me than a treadmill.

Another snow day for us here, too. It snowed on Saturday and they're still canceling school! Us Virginians don't know how to handle precipitaion!

Anyway, I think that's very cool that you post your Nike results for us all to see. I like all the details it includes, they must be handy.

Hope the rest of hump day is good for everyone.

Wow! Congratulations on signing up for Ottawa! May is only 12 weeks away!
I think a relay would be so fun and interesting to run. What a great way to have fun with friends.
My husband and I are talking about the relay for The Inaugural Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon in October. I think it would be a lot of fun for us to do it as a couples weekend but I have to convince my MIL to come and stay with the kids. I like how the relay is broken up, Runner 1 - 8K (5.1 miles) Runner 2 - 13K (8 miles). I'd be runner #1 of course and be waiting at the end with a glass of wine in my hand cheering him on!
Is anyone doing the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon in October?
...or any relay event?

Hi everyone, just wanted to pop in real quick and say hello. I hope everyone's running is going well. I had to laugh at myself after reading about the weather some of you are having. I did a 7 mile hyrbid run today (ran 6, did weights at the gym then ran 1 mile home). I grumped to myself the whole time about how cold it was - only 55 degrees. :lmao: I'm such a wuss.
