One of the on-site perks of staying at a WDW-owned resort is NOT free dining, but the ability to buy the dining plan.I probably would not be but it is a valid concern. Part of the cost of resorts goes to the amenitites associated with that resort. Now whether it seems kinda of elitist or not, one of the biggest draws for the BC/YC resort is the pool. Guest pay for that upgraded pool.
It's the same complaint folks who stay at Wilderness lodge have when every one from FT. Wilderness invades the pool.
look at it this way, one of the perks for staying on site is free dining and EMH, sure there are other factors like immersion that go along with it but if suddenly disney said you know what, everyone can take advantage of emh then some can wonder, why the heck am I paying all that money.
Or let's say you like the "total immersion" aspect of staying onsite. How would you feel if dsney allowed their good neighbor hotels to offer the same immersion for 1/3 the cost?
Some folks think that's why disney stopped offering saratoga springs as an upgrade. I don't know this to be true but rumor had it that dvc members who paid hefty prices got a little put out from folks paying value resort prices getting the same amenitites that they just kick out 1000's of dollars for.
this hopefully was a one time boo-boo by dolphin because even going to SAB can be a hassle from the dolphin
DISCLAIMER: I am just offering up a possible explanation, I am in no way suggesting that op should not have been allowed to use the pool. sorry but the dis is famous for taking an posted and twisting it beyond recognition. lol.
The Swan and Dolphin each have their own lap pools. When the grotto pool is closed for refurbishment, it's not as though guests will have nowhere on property to swim.
