Really unhappy with dolphin pool condition

I probably would not be but it is a valid concern. Part of the cost of resorts goes to the amenitites associated with that resort. Now whether it seems kinda of elitist or not, one of the biggest draws for the BC/YC resort is the pool. Guest pay for that upgraded pool.

It's the same complaint folks who stay at Wilderness lodge have when every one from FT. Wilderness invades the pool.

look at it this way, one of the perks for staying on site is free dining and EMH, sure there are other factors like immersion that go along with it but if suddenly disney said you know what, everyone can take advantage of emh then some can wonder, why the heck am I paying all that money.

Or let's say you like the "total immersion" aspect of staying onsite. How would you feel if dsney allowed their good neighbor hotels to offer the same immersion for 1/3 the cost?

Some folks think that's why disney stopped offering saratoga springs as an upgrade. I don't know this to be true but rumor had it that dvc members who paid hefty prices got a little put out from folks paying value resort prices getting the same amenitites that they just kick out 1000's of dollars for.

this hopefully was a one time boo-boo by dolphin because even going to SAB can be a hassle from the dolphin

DISCLAIMER: I am just offering up a possible explanation, I am in no way suggesting that op should not have been allowed to use the pool. sorry but the dis is famous for taking an posted and twisting it beyond recognition. lol.
One of the on-site perks of staying at a WDW-owned resort is NOT free dining, but the ability to buy the dining plan.

The Swan and Dolphin each have their own lap pools. When the grotto pool is closed for refurbishment, it's not as though guests will have nowhere on property to swim.

We are arriving at the dolphin in 2 weeks and were planning on spending alot of resort time there, especially at the grotto pool that has a slide. When I made our reservations, nobody mentioned that the main pool would be closed. I will be livid if the pool is closed for renovations. We cancelled our CSR package with free dining because I wanted to try a boardwalk area resort. I am going to call the resort to find out.

I dunno, and you will probably all hate me for saying this, but the potential to get SAB wristbands for my upcoming Dolphin stay would be awesome! :thumbsup2
Yeah, I know, not fair, etc., but awesome nonetheless :rotfl:

Hey! You're arriving at Dolphin the same day I'm arriving at YC :)
And I' don't blame you for hoping/thinking it would be awesome! :thumbsup2

It is what it is... You have no control over what is happening and what is being granted to you. Have fun at the SAB! :goodvibes

While I am the Dolphin rectified the situation, it is scary to me that they let others swim in that pool when it was in that condition. Did they not know about it until you complained? Shouldn't the lifeguards know what disgusting looks like? Do they just not care? I don't know. The pictures you posted are downright gross and the fact they let others swim in Ot until YoU comPlaines scares me!!!!

I was thinking the same thing. I can't believe they kept the pool open that long. If I was there last week I think I would file a complaint with the health department

There was a case in Mass. where a women had drowned last year in a community pool an no one noticed for days because the pool was so filthy.:sad2:

ugh. this really troubles me. we are arriving October 16th at the Dolphin, so hopefully everything will be fixed. I did not get WP&M feature on my tickets because I knew the grotto pool was awesome, so this kinda throws a wrench in my plan. This is more of an issue with DH, since I'm not a fan of public pools in general, and will not swim often. He, however, was really counting on his long afternoon breaks by the pool.

Just my opinion on S&D folks using the SAB pool

I'm sure if it were 4th of July week they wouldn't have another resort's guests use SAB because of the crowds. I'm sure that was figured into the timing of the shut down. Nothing is overcrowded in September. Mayb they'll split the swimming privileges (Dolphin - SAB, Swan - BW) or some other thing, who knows.

But they do this stuff all the time. BW pool was down when we were there and they had SAB privileges.

I guess I don't understand the obsession with who is in what pool, unless it somehow means there is no room for my family, and I've yet to experience that.

I am horrified to read about the condition of the grotto pool!!! We stayed at the Dolphin for 10 nights from August 11-21 and we spent a lot of time at the grotto pool.

I personally didn't see anything like what's in the pictures posted here, but then again I didn't think to inspect the pool and I was only actually in the pool once or twice. I did notice the water was mirky, but I don't know much about pools and I wrongly assumed that I didn't have to worry about the pool water not being safe at such an expensive resort. My older kids and husband luckily didn't spend too much time in the pool.

However, my 8 year old son LOVED the pool and spent every minute he could swimming under water and sliding down the slide. And although I am constantly reminding him to keep his mouth closed, he does open his mouth and often swallows some water. Just thinking about it makes me sick! About 6 days into our trip he developed a cough and runny nose, but we just assumed it was a cold. Luckily he was already on antibiotics and oral steroids from an allergic reaction and infection he developed from bug bites on our first day there (that was a fun 5 hours in the emergency room). The cold symptoms cleared up after about a week, but the cough lingered and he still has it. We have been thinking it's allergies, since there is no fever or any other symptoms of anything serious and he's acting fine. A few times a day he just randomly clears his throat like he's trying to bring something up and then coughs, sometimes spitting something out, but otherwise isn't acting sick. Since it has been a month now, we actually called our pediatrician yesterday to schedule an appointment to take him in this week. Reading this now has me terrified that he may have gotten something from the pool. We'll see what the doctor says. I can't believe they would allow anyone to swim in those conditions, knowing how dangerous it was!

Hopefully the antibiotics prevented him from getting anything serious. Who would have thought those bug bites would end up being a blessing?

I think the biggest issue with ingesting any pool water with bacteria/virus's would be gastrointestinal issues. I wouldn't worry too much about cough/cold issues. Hope he feels better.

I'm quite surprised the OP got wristbands for SAB. Last time we stayed at the Boardwalk, the clown pool was closed on an emergency basis. We were given acess to SAB for the full two weeks of our stay as were all Boardwalk Inn and Boardwalk Villas guests. But, that was Disney resort to Disney resort. This situation is Starwood (or whomever) to Disney. I guess Disney is trying to be helpful. But, I would not be at all surprised to learn that Dolphin/Swan is paying Disney for the right to send guests to SAB (just like I have always assumed that Dolphin/Swan pays Disney so its guests will have bus access to the parks and pays Disney so its guests will have access to extra magic hours -- either that or the covenant from Disney to provide these services was part of the original deal when Swan/Dolphin were built).

Needless to say, for all of those who stay at Beach Club/Yacht Club and pay Disney for "exclusive" rights to SAB, at the end of the day, it's Disney that owns SAB and they can do and will do exactly what they want with it!

Exactly... if Disney wants to invite the Smith family or Jones family from Swan/Dolphin to swim at SAB, then that is their right. They can make their own discretion whether we like it or not. If Disney wants to give a free park tickets to a family, they can. If they want to invite the Johnson's family to stay at the GF for free.. they can.
