Really unhappy with dolphin pool condition

Well, here it is. Actually looks "better" now since its been sitting unused all night and all the fine particles settled out to the bottom. That's NOT green paint on the walls/bottom :)
What's gross is you can see where kids were playing with the algae on the walls by "painting" in it, lol

And this is acceptable?

Not a fan of Starwood AT ALL. I'd ask for compensation.

That pool is disgusting. Shame on Starwood.

When I was a dumb kid, I got swimmer's ear from a friend's above-ground pool that looked like that Dolphin pool. It was very painful.

The Dolphin and Swan have other pools, I think they have 5 total. If the other pools are safe, there is no need to send people to other resorts.

Op here. Just spoke w Jason. He has set up wristbands for my family for the next 6 days for all 4 of us. Quite a few guests have complained and the dolphin is making this right

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what is the difference between swimming in the pool and say swimming in a lake that is very "green " and dirty?

i would hope an official sponsor of this board would act quickly.

Not true. Upgraded them today with Dave on the phone. He said as long as it is 14 days before your scheduled arrival date, you can make changes like that. Several other YESers have been able to do it too! :thumbsup2

Great news! If you don't mind, it would be great if you would post over on the budget board YES program thread. Those folks would love to hear that!

Big difference actually. Swimming pools rely on their sanitizer and filtration to control harmful bacteria growth and fecal coliform levels. An they are a finite size with a high load. A natural lake or pond is a complex system that includes filter plants an organisms as well as a much lower bather load versus volume of water. Not saying your local swimming hole can't have high bacteria counts. It can especially after a large rain event.

That being said there is an acceptable method for keeping a public pool. Both in quantified terms and visual terms. On visual terms alone it's a huge embarrassment to a resort that bills itself as upper end. And at Disney no less. Automatic higher standards apply.

And the presence of such a large algae growth indicates low sanitizer and filtration levels, which also indicates high bacteria levels.

A public pool at a "resort" that folks are paying good money to stay at should be CRYSTAL CLEAR no ifs ands or buts about it.

Even the lap pool condition suggests they show little concern for the appearance of their pools. It doesn't look to have been vacuumed in a very long time and it too has quite a bit of algae growth.

It's simple to take care of these things. It's called spend the money to put the labor on the pool to brush, vacuum, and aggressively sanitize and frequently backwash. Labor, chemical, and water costs are high. Do the math.

Especially in Florida, if a lake does not have any outlets i.e. river, creek etc. it is highly recommended that you do not swim in it because the ameba parasite can form in those type of lakes, because the lake gets so warm in the Florida sun. That is why there is no swimming at any of the disney lakes, they are dormant lakes and the water just sits there and heats up.

@tuckerkeys

Wow, that is disgusting and definitely not healthy! :crazy2:

Is that pool still open to guests?!? :scared:

Sorry you are having to deal with this on your vacation. I hope you still have a great time.

The pool was really filmy when we were there in June... I couldnt believe what bad shape the pool was in. sounds like it got alot worse...that stinks!!

cross post but here's the deal:

Well my faith in the swan/dolphin has been restored. The followed up significantly with us, owned up to the issue, and made us happy.

I'll spare you all the dirty laundry technical stuff but suffice to say there's an issue, they have formulated a plan, and are working to resolve it.

From a technical standpoint, if they do what they say their plan is, by mid to late next week the pool should be back to normal. It takes a while to get 300k gallons back when it gets to this point.

I really like this place, have been here a bunch in the past, specifically selected this place this trip for the pool, and will most likely return based on how this has been handled.

Hopefully going forward they will take a solid look at their pool maintenance plan and really get it dialed in.

That's great news! I suggest that you edit the title of this thread and add an update at the bottom of your first post. Thanks!
