So next on our journey we venture into the France area of the World. My family has been going to WDW for so long we tend to only hit the countries we know we like and so I had no real clear memory of what they had to offer here. Is it bad that I just didn't find anything to interest me here? The food I'm sure is good but it didn't seem to be what I wanted and there was little else to keep me entertained for long. (Do they have a kidcot station, maybe I should try that next time.
) I'm sure that for some people this is their favorite but I don't think it's for us. So we were quickly on the way to Morocco where the food again had little I was interested in but I did enjoy taking all the different aspects of it in. I've never been able to explore this freely because my brother, god bless him, can't stand how I like to poke around constantly and need to see every little detail. I think he's fine with in certain times but when he's stuck with me for days on end it gets old. Plus there was no holiday crowd to deal with so Brandon and I were able to just see what we wanted. He did take a look at the food and a few things caught his eye. But despite my urging to try food he didn't, I think maybe he was still rebeling against WDW. (You have to remember he's still not converted.)
So we head into the Japenese Pavilion to look around and I explain to Brandon about the pearls. At this point you can't go pick your oyster yet but we're close enough that we decide to wait. So we decide to veture around a little. We look at all the Hello Kitty things and think of my sister who loves Hello Kitty. We look more at things we love but can't afford, things we like but have no need for and things like that. I debate getting a pair of funky chop sticks to use to pull my hair back. In the end we just look around and soak up everything they have to offer. We head back over to the area where the oysters are and something catches my attention. They sell monchichis here! So you might be saying what?
That is a monchichi. Brandon at some point in our relationship took to calling me his little monchichi, neither of us really knows why. They were super popular when we were kids and I remember having one myself. So we laugh and look at all the different ones they have. We decide to go over and try to find which oyster will get us the biggest pearl. I'm glad that this is a bigger display then the one at the Beach Club. My sister did that one and I think it was just a little less exciting. So we look over the took tanks and point one ones we think will be good. We start talking with a woman who is doing the same as us and she explains that she works in Epcot and comes over all the time to do this. She told us her way of picking hers but I politely waited till she'd walked away before I told Brandon the tips another person had given me. So I go pay for each of us to pick a pearl and for a munchichi for Brandon that looks simliar to the one I posted above. He laughs at this surprise because now I'm not the only monchichi in his life.
We wait for a couple of people who got there before us to go. (They snuck in when I was having the great chopstick debate with myself.) Brandon and I each have our eyes set on an oyster. The women who we were talking to earlier picks hers and it's size is 7. I think they hit the gong once for this. She hangs around to watch Brandon and I pick. I go first and I point out my buddy. The women pulls him out and he's the typical color but he's 7.5. He's large she says and rings the gong once. I'm secretly excited that it's so big. Brandon goes next and his oyster gets pulled out. He also get's a traditional colored pearl but his is 8.5!!! We're told by the woman working that it's an extra, extra large one(so many jokes, none very dis-like) and she rings the gong twice for him!
The women who we'd been talking to looks like she wants to hit Brandon over the head and steal his pearl. Eventually we have our pearls in little baggies and were both very happy. Brandon offers to have them set in something for me but for some reason I was very happy just to have them in their little bags(where theys till sit today.) We pop outside and we walk around the gardens. Brandon runs to get us Powerades while I sit snapping pictures with the last few pictures left on the roll. It seemed like such a peaceful moment in an extremely busy place so I decided to take some pictures. (I'll load them onto my computer soon.)
Brandon comes to usher me on our way and we head to the American Adventure. We go into the gift shop first, not sure how we managed that one, where we have very little interest in buying things. Maybe it's because we live in a city flooded with these historic souveniers but it just doesn't scream buy things. But we do get a kick out of the fact that you can buy Presidential dolls that when you push a button has them saying a famous quote. We had a good time trying to guess what each one would say. Of course my bladder has an excellent sense of timing so it was about then that it let me know I had to go now! So after a trip to the rest rooms I decided to call my mom at work to tell her about the pearls. (I just can't make myself carry my cell phone while I'm in WDW. My parents knew this and were okay with it. So I used a pay phone, I was happy to find one.) Of course I called her at work and she was away from her desk, another women in her office picked up. Once I told her who I was she tracked her down for me. I told my mom all the things that we'd been doing and all about the pearls. She was glad to hear I was so happy.
We decided to go inside but didn't do the show. We poked around and looked at the things they had exhibited there. The paintings and all the little details that make it look so wonderful. Don't think that we're unpatriotic, we're absolutely not. I believe people when they say this show is wonderful and stirring. I am proud of the roots of my country but I've seen shows like this numerous times. I've been to Plymouth Rock and Plymouth Plantation, I see the Boston Harbour every day and have seen all the Tea Party things they do there and I've seen the Decleration of Independence. It was just not the day to take a trip down our countries memory lane. We were both more just wanting to keep walking around. But it did provide a nice air conditioned break from the Florida heat. So we skipped it and we were headed to two countries that I was sure we'd spend time poking around.
Stay tuned for Part 16: This is the food and wine festival, right?
