Real Life game/fun: Calling for a DisBoard Gamers DisMeet....first week Oct 2013

Now, if there are 2 grills, I won't have to read the note!;)

You'll still have to put them to the left, so there is a spot for the tri tip to grill with indirect heat. :rolleyes1 You may need the note after all.

I will plan to be there Sat Oct 5 th at 4:30 PIO 4 pm would be a perfect pickup time for the cake :)

Alison you will have the tomatoes Thurs Oct 3 at the 8 am Cape May breakfast

Oh it is good :goodvibes

4 pm. Will I have to make a note of that? Maybe I better. ;)

I just need DH to take a look at the selection of cakes and work out what he wants. I think I'll give up the idea of having a musical inspired cake.

The Grand Mariner event is supposed to end at 4pm. Its at Monsieur Paul so it shouldn't take us long to get back to BCV. I plan on making the summer salad Friday (that's why I'll need to get the tomaotes at breakfast Thursday.) Before we go to the tasting I'm going to cut up the cheese and veggies for the queso and put it in the pot. I can heat it up on the rangetop of on the charcoal.

We can't reserve the grills so we just need to hope no one ekse has the same idea. The coals will take about 20-25 minutes to heat up and the meat will take 30 minutes for the less done chunk and 40 minutes for the more cooked piece. Ill start one 10 minutes after the other so they're done at the same time. I hope there are two grills so that we can do one for meat and one for veggies. That way they can be done at the same time.

PIO will you be running back to the room to whip up the rice or fry it on the grill? The queso can keep warm on the grill. I think the only hot things are the tri tip, mushrooms and fried rice. I've got half a dozen Aidell's Bacon & Pineapple sausages in the freezer. If they're still in there when I leave for the airport, I'll throw them in the suitcase.

I figure that by 5pm we can get things going if not a little earlier. Who wants to take care of the charcoal? I can order it with my delivery order but I hate to make the bell services move it from VWL to BCV. I think to be safe we either need two small bags or one big one. I like Matchlight so that we don't need fluid.

Okay. My plans for the day are to be at AK. The parade is at 3.45 and I'm hoping to be there to see it.

It'll be safer to fry the rice in the room.

I plan on cooking the rice the night before and leaving it in the fridge. Will also chop the carrots and string beans so that everything is prep-ed and it's only just the cooking.

:lmao: all this back & forth with each other forgetting things and reminding things we're starting to sound alot like Dory ...Do I know you Lady ??

Yes I think so BUT we will not be disappointed in the cake itself Does DS have a favorite character ?

I'll leave the connecting door open for sure when we go to the Grand Mariner Tasting. That way you can get into the kitchen in case you get back before I do. We'll have to see how Bobbi does on securing the grills. If we can get two, then the mushrooms don't need to start until just after the Tri Tip comes off the grill. They take between 30-45 minutes to cook and then need about 10 minutes to rest. If I can keep half the grill clean, we can cook the mushrooms on the non meat half. If we get two grills, we can start a second set of coals at 5PM so they will be ready once the tri tip is ready to pull off the grill and just cook the mushrooms there.

Now a wrench will be thrown in our plans if someone else shows up to grill so we'll all have to flexible.....

Okay. I won't stress then about running back to the resort. It seems like by the time the meat is cooked, we might be closer to between 5 - 6 pm than anything.

I've gotten FPs for Nancy & I at AK for Friday, that way, we will hang around BCV & SAB on Saturday until time to go shopping. She & I will most likely not go to MK this trip. We'll be meeting the group for dinner at Cali Grill.

I've read you can get barbecue tools from the store, to use, not purchase. Do we want throw away tablecloths? Utensils? Are plastic knives good enough to cut the meat? I'll get what we need if I know what we need!

Thanks Bobbi.

I think we have the following 10 people for dinner:
  • Ruthie
  • Tiffany and her DH
  • Bobbi and her DS
  • Fran and Alison
  • Myself, DH and DS.

My list (and I'll give you the money for it all):

Portobello mushrooms (about 8 - 10??)
Feta cheese (or goat cheese)
Pesto

I believe Tiffany is vegetarian; so we may want to up the number of mushrooms.

For the fried rice:
White rice
Shrimp
String Beans (decent handful)
Carrots (about 3 - 4 medium)
Garlic
Ginger
Vegetable stock
Eggs, 4

Alison - did you mention that you might already have white rice in your stash?

I have to admit that I was hoping to have the carrots and string beans; and rice before Saturday afternoon so that I can prep this on Friday night.

I was wondering if Ruthie could pick these up and bring them on Thursday morning???

hang on a minute with your thoughts please PIO,

Bobbi when are you getting the car again & how are you getting there? I would NOT buy all that food for PIO at Publix, it would be a tremendous expense IF they even carry everything

There is an excellent Wal-Mart ( I do my shopping there ) a few miles away

Produce is fresh fresh fresh so is meat & seafood Several aisles of different ethnic & culture foods so everything can be found ( I won't swear to it but I'll bet the sweet soya sauce too but I know Fran has that covered) this would be a better place to shop

Ok...I see there is a problem with the times! I am not picking the car up until 1 PM on Saturday! UGGG! Our Friday is pretty much planned...AK, only day we can get there, and then dinner & cruise.

If Ruthie can do the main shopping and bring to breakfast on Thursday, then I could get the cake from Publix. I would ask to have it ready by 3. To give time to get back to BC to stake out the grill.

Bobbi

If the mushrooms or anything is best picked up on Saturday, I definitely will gat the things that must be fresh on Saturday.

Alamo picks me up at the resort, that's how we get the car....I have the afternoon to get things.

PIO we will be getting back to the resort 10-11ish on Friday, do you really have the time, inclination to do all of that work on Friday night?

Sorry Ladies I can NOT commit to doing the main shopping I have no idea where I will be working or my schedule that day/week I have no vacation time and, God willing, will have a new job by then I planned ahead for the Cpe May Brkfst/cookout/and MNSSHP any other moment in life is just too up in the air KWIM ?

Then there are the animals I have to take care of and well just life If I said I could I would be wrong to commit and there would be MUCH disappointment

I can bring the tomatos Thurs as I can pick them up at a neighborhood market that morning near my house They are small & don't carry the other things needed

The cake I can definitely pick up at Publix at 4 on Sat on the way to the cookout

I am SO glad we're discussing this ahead of time

Ok...so, when we hear back from PIO we can firm up the times....I can get the ingredients to our villas by 3, (Saturday shopping and traffic could be heavy). If we move eating to 6 or later is that enough prep time?

Ruthie, you have a lot on your plate, I was surprised when you mentioned shopping at your Walmart. I'm sorry if I misunderstood something. I always was going to do shopping, but I have always had a 1 PM pick up time, that's the time that works best for my return.

Not that I have so much on my plate, its just " different" as everyone is on vacation ( well not Tiffany ) and I am just here

That's ok Bobbi, I may have stated it incorrectly I mentioned the Wal-Mart ( and I can tell you where it is) so that lots of money can be saved and I know they will have what is on the list Publix is NOT reasonably priced Their cakes are delicious that is the only reason to go to them IMHO

The Wal-Mart is only about 5 miles from the Crossroads/535 intersection (Polynesian Isle Blvd) I mentioned it for the one who is doing the shopping ie: unfortunately NOT me

Wal-Marts are plentiful here but not all are good The one I'm recommending is the best after years of hit & miss this is the one to go to

Ok ... I will put that into GPS & go there if it turns out that Saturday works for PIO and her fresh items.

Bobbi, I read through that whole thread about the Grills, the people at BCV have no clue about BBQ tools for borrowing. I have 3-4 sets of BBQ tools here at my house. I will put a spatula and BBQ tongs in my suitcase, the tongs are what I need for the tri tip and PIO can probably use the spatula. We are pitching a large item from our OL this trip, so we will have extra space. We can always take the knives from my 1 Br Villa down to cut the meat. I also have a set of knives in my OL, not sure if there are steak knives in there, but I seem to remember eating my Prime Rib last trip with the knives from the Villa.

I have a pack of throwaway tablecloths all set to go in my suitcase. I also have a pack of 500 plastic forks and spoons that I can toss in my suitcase. Plates and napkins might be all that we need.

Thanks Bobbi.

I believe Tiffany is vegetarian; so we may want to up the number of mushrooms.

Tiffany eats poultry, but not red meat. If I end up tossing the Chicken Sausages in with the TriTip, she mentioned that she likes those.

I can order a dozen eggs with my WeGoShop Order. I need to place that this week. I normally order half a dozen, but it's not that much more expensive to get a dozen, we just don't eat that many eggs. With all the breakfasts we're doing out, my eggs may end up going to waste, so I can cover you there.

I will bring along some Asian style rice, just tell me how much you want. I've got a big bag here (I keep 3-5 kinds of rice on hand and I need to use it up with the move coming up).

I could put the carrots on my grocery order (arriving Sunday night) if Ruthie can't get them, but string beans don't have a very long shelf life, so those should be acquired closer to the day of the cookout.

Also, the string beans we have here in the states are different than what you use. I'm not sure how easily you will find that type here. What you use in your cooking we call "long beans" they are only found at Asian markets, so you'll probably have to use our American Green Beans. I'm sure they will be fine.

Since Ruthie said she could pick up the cake at 4PM on Saturday, maybe you could get the other things and not worry about the cake. That way you can get back to the resort and stake out the grills while Ruthie gets the cake.

The two key things that need to be purchased on Saturday are the shrimp and mushrooms. I realize Publix is pricey, but for these two items, their quality might be better than Walmart, but perhaps as you said, the one you know of is better than others.

PIO - would you like me to add the Carrots, Garlic, Ginger, Vegetable Stock, Pesto and Feta to my delivery order? Those things don't spoil quickly. That would make Bobbi's grocery stop for the fresh items quicker. It would be better if we could get the charcoal after Wednesday when we are all checked in.

I forgot to ask, do you use a fresh pesto or a jarred Pesto? Fresh would spoil quickly and might need to be purchased same day.

Shopping lists:

Anytime:

Feta/Goat Cheese
Pesto
Garlic
Ginger
Vegetable stock

Before Friday
