Ready for Disney but lacking a Sole

What kind of shoes should i wear? I've heard so many comments on needing comfortable shoes for walking in. Any suggestions as to what shoes I should get for walking around at Disney?

My shoes of choice are Mephisto sandals. I know most people go with athletic shoes, but I just can't stand for my feet to get hot. As long as I take the moleskin, I do great in sandals...

There's a great post further down called 'Moleskin Booties' that has an excellent post by 'matty' about avoiding blisters.

The sandals my husband and I love are made by Bass. The sole is soft and very padded so are the straps.

I would reccomend either sandles or sneakers. And if you are going on any water rides, try water sandles or shoes. Enjoy the parks!!

My vote goes with the Nike Straprunner II's. They are by far the most comfortable sandals for MY feet. Definately try on several types of sandals/sneakers, and see what feels the best on you. Still, the true test comes in wearing them for long periods of time, not just in the store. Good luck!

The best shoes I have ever worn were suggested by a reader on one of these threads.

The $5.00 water sport sandals that I got online at Land's End are hands down the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I'm on my feet all day and my legs and back never ache after wearing them. I wore them 8 hrs the first day-no blisters or anything.

I HATE buying shoes because my foot is hard to fit. I've ordered them for other people and have gotten another pair for myself. I'm going to Disney in August and I'm bringing two pair with me.

I have to disagree with Dave. Any shoe requiring a break-in period is probably not well fitted or is too stiff for 'athletic' wear. A shoe should be very comfortable right out of the box, and wear should make it more comfortable as time goes on...until its pressure absorbtion material gets too compressed. This material will usually compress to the point of uselessness well before the uppers wear out.

I agree with chance's mom..do a search for footwear. I'd also recommend doing a search on 'socks' and 'thorlo' (a brand of socks).

Hello again!

I've been wearing my new New Balance Tennis shoes and my thorlo cool max walking mini crew socks everywhere for the past month to get ready for DW.

I agree with jmminarik completely! If the shoes don't feel great the first time you put them on your feet--do not buy them!

Search until you find something that feels good from the get go.

I also can't recommend enough going to a specialty store and having a trained shoe specialist help you-- they really know their products and will be able to direct you to a shoe choice for your foot. Good Luck--I can not think of anything more important at Disney than a comfortable pair of shoes.

Every time I went to WDW, I was miserable with tired feet. Not blisters or anthing, just the bottoms of my feet hurting (and swelling). About two months before we went last September, I purchased Teva sandals. They have padded insole, and are sooo comfortable. I was able to keep up with Stephen (long-legged 6'4" dh) every day. I walked every day for those two months before we left to break them in and get in condition. I still wear my Tevas all the time. In the winter, I put on socks. It may look dorky (just ask my teenager), but it's comfortable.

We purchased Teva Hurricanes (one of the less expensive types of Teva) for each member of our family, husband, myself, DD8, DD5, DS4 and after an 8 day trip, 5 days in the parks, I can happily and honestly tell you that there was NEVER a peep about tired or sore feet, blisters or anything. I can't believe how perfect they were for this trip.

Even in the afternoon showers, just no worries about them getting wet. They would quickly dry and no discomfort, WHATSOEVER.

I shopped around online, there are several online stores that sell these but not always the right sizes. Got the best deals for each pair and got them at 3 different places.

I vote for Birkenstocks. They came out with a new type of sandal - the cork lining is now paded. They are AWESOME. Cost is about $89.00, but they are well worth the money and if you buy Birks there is always a store trained to repair them. New cork, new leather, new bottoms. Everything.

I just bought a pair of Dr Scholl's type sneaker from wal mart, has anyone else every bought these, they are very light and comfy , they still need to be broken in, but was wondering if anyone else out there has had a pair for awhile

I used to buy them (they're cheap!!!) but stopped when I realized that I needed something wider than wide, especially with Thorlos. Most of the time they worked ok, but I did get a few pairs where the way they were stitched together was poor and rubbed.

Now I just go to Modells and get New Balance walking shoes....only about $50 and they have 12 EEEE in stock.

Another vote for Tevas....2 trips now to WDW with them and not one blister or discomfort of any kind. And your toes feel sooo much cooler than being cooped up in socks ans sneakers!!
